    Pleasant safe engaging short-term stay

I stayed two weeks at Cambridge House while family was nearby and was very pleased. Rooms are roomy and clean in a pleasant, tree-lined setting, and they accept Medicaid/public aid. Staff from administration (Scott, Bridget) to caregivers were compassionate and helpful - they handled laundry, rides, meals and arranged activities (Wii bowling, music, library, outings, live entertainment) that kept residents engaged. It felt like a safe, home-like community and I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Cambridge House of O'Fallon elicits strongly polarized impressions: many families describe a warm, activity-rich, and administratively capable community, while other accounts raise substantive operational concerns. Strengths commonly cited include an attentive and caring caregiving staff, a supportive administrative team that some families find coordinated and helpful, and a robust activities program featuring Wii bowling, live entertainment, exercises, and frequent social events. The facility offers a range of living options (private and shared apartments), on-site amenities such as a salon/barbershop and libraries, outdoor walking areas, and assistance with doctor transportation. It also accepts Medicaid/public aid, which several families cited as important to affordability and access.

Dining is frequently noted as buffet-style with varied options; many families reported satisfactory meals and a good balance of choices. However, there are recurring concerns about meal execution — examples include food served at inadequate temperatures, blandness, or occasional undercooking — indicating inconsistency in kitchen performance and meal-service continuity. Snack availability and interim food service also emerged as an area needing clearer management.

Care quality and clinical responsiveness show a mixed picture. Numerous reviewers praise individualized, patient interactions and timely medication administration, while others describe delays in responsiveness, safety-event handling, and needs for closer supervision. Related themes include concerns about how memory-care or dementia-specific supports are managed, and variability in how staff communicate with families and residents. These patterns suggest that care experience may depend on unit assignment, staff shift, or individual staff members.

Facility-level issues that recur across accounts include inconsistent cleanliness and sanitation in resident rooms (contrasting with generally well-kept common areas), occasional maintenance shortcomings (cracked walls, odors in some rooms), and gaps in privacy practices during medication passes and housekeeping. Several families described distressing administrative interactions around billing, eviction notices, and post-move-out or bereavement charges; these raise questions about the facility’s policies and their application in sensitive circumstances.

Overall, Cambridge House presents clear strengths in social programming, a community feel, and a number of families’ strong satisfaction with staff and daily life. At the same time, prospective residents and families should be aware of variability in care responsiveness, meal consistency, room-level cleanliness, privacy practices, and certain management/billing processes. When evaluating this facility, ask targeted questions about staffing ratios and turnover, dementia-care protocols, incident-response procedures, meal-service practices (including temperature and snack availability), sanitation audits, privacy policies for med administration and housekeeping, and the facility’s billing and eviction policies to assess how these operational areas are managed in practice.

    About Cambridge House of Ofallon

Cambridge House of Ofallon sits at 844 Cambridge Blvd in O'Fallon, Illinois, close to bus lines and major roads, and provides apartment living for people aged 65 and older who need some help but want independence. The building's got three different floor plans with private bathrooms that have wheelchair-accessible showers, kitchenettes, and emergency call systems in both bedrooms and bathrooms, and you'll see staff awake and around all day and night-there are always nurses or certified aides close by to provide help with things like taking medicine, daily tasks, and moving from beds to wheelchairs, and the staff give standby assistance with transferring and non-ambulatory care, so residents who have trouble walking aren't left by themselves. The team also offers diabetic care, checks on residents' health, gives incontinence help with a self-management focus, and brings in a regular group of visiting healthcare professionals like podiatrists, therapists, and even hospice workers when needed, with the whole place focusing especially on a medium care level.

Residents get three meals a day made onsite and don't have to worry about meal prep, and there's a dining room so everyone can sit with neighbors. Common areas, both indoors and outdoors-a television lounge, exercise room, library, patio, and an activity room-give many spots for folks to talk, read, or just relax. There's a beauty shop and barber onsite, plus a handy store, and the community cleans apartments and does laundry as part of everyday services, which keeps things manageable for most anyone. The place puts a heavy focus on activities-luncheons, dinners, movie days, social outings, clubs, and regular events-and even has its own community news called the Cambridge Caller. There's Wi-Fi within the building, though details are light, and staff can help guests schedule visits or pay online.

Transportation for residents comes with the apartment, and there's parking for those who still drive, but there isn't a garage, and there's no mention of pet accommodations or extra parking details. People here can take part in devotional services, access various clubs, and find many structured social programs that are good for keeping up both mental and physical wellness. For those needing more at-home support, Cambridge House offers home care and has independent and memory care options designed for different needs, especially for seniors living with things like Alzheimer's.

The community stands out for being part of Gardant Management Solutions and has earned awards like Best Meals and Dining, Best Activities, and Most Friendly in senior living, plus recognition from professional associations for quality, so it's known for staff who help residents enjoy each day with respect and friendliness. They keep a welcoming culture, with a mix of affordable supportive living and a mission to honor every person's dignity and belonging, and the staff try to meet each person wherever they are in life, helping with daily support and leaving space for independence and privacy. The community also provides structured nursing assessments and checks on resident health needs to try to handle problems before they get serious, and residents and families give the community a solid review score of 7.0. There's no specific information on utilities, some features like exterior details go unlisted, and pet or garage amenities aren't described, but Cambridge House of Ofallon stays focused on providing safe, supportive, and fairly affordable senior living with attentive staff and a rich mix of activities for older adults in the O'Fallon area.
