    Bright, clean, friendly independent living

I toured this bright, new one-floor community and felt immediately at home. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, the building spotless and well-organized, and the restaurant-style dining impressive. Plenty of activities and nice amenities (salon, courtyard, whirlpool), pet-friendly and independence-focused - a warm, comfortable place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Bickford of Crown Point is described primarily as a clean, well-maintained, and home-like assisted living community with a strong emphasis on social engagement and hospitality. Reviewers consistently highlight warm, attentive staff and a family-oriented culture. Physical attributes that receive frequent praise include modern finishes, single-floor navigation, attractive courtyards and outdoor seating, secure entry, and on-site amenities such as a salon, whirlpool, and conveniently located common areas that support social interaction.

Care quality is generally seen as a strength when staffing is adequate: families note personalized intake processes, one-on-one engagement, rehabilitation services on site, and therapists available for speech and physical therapy. Many reviewers described staff who are respectful and invested in residents’ daily lives. However, there are recurring operational concerns around clinical coordination. Several accounts point to medication- and pharmacy-related coordination issues and billing inaccuracies, and there are repeated comments indicating gaps in how the community handles and communicates clinical incidents to families. These items suggest variability in clinical responsiveness depending on shift and circumstance.

Dining and activities are prominent positive features. The community markets restaurant-style dining with varied menus, scratch-made items, a bistro for snacks and desserts, and room-service options. Many reviewers praised specific meals and the overall dining format. At the same time, food quality is inconsistently described; while some families called meals excellent, others described marginal or inconsistent offerings. Activity programming is broad and active, including crafts, gardening, music, outings, exercise classes and dementia-focused programming; reviewers commonly reported a busy calendar and meaningful social opportunities, though a few noted limitations in movement-based activities or reduced programming during extraordinary circumstances.

Facility amenities and layout are strengths for those seeking a smaller, less institutional environment. The single-level layout, smaller size, and personalized common spaces support orientation and community feel. Room sizes and floorplans vary; several reviewers praised roomy layouts while others found certain private units small. Practical constraints cited include limited parking and occasional housekeeping details such as carpet or spot-cleaning consistency.

Management, cost, and business practices are mixed in reviewer experience. Many families singled out specific staff and directors for praise and described smooth move-ins and transitions. Conversely, others raised concerns about management communication, advertising versus delivered services, deposit and refund procedures, and sudden rent or fee increases. Cost is a recurrent theme: the community is viewed as relatively expensive, with additional fees for care-level increases and separate charges that some families found unclear. Weekend staffing limitations and reports of understaffing at times also contribute to perceptions of uneven service continuity.

Notable patterns to consider: the community offers strong social programming, attractive physical spaces, and staff who are frequently described as caring and engaged. However, operational variability — particularly around staffing consistency, management communication, billing transparency, and clinical incident response — appears repeatedly enough to warrant attention from prospective residents and families. There are isolated but serious allegations concerning incident handling that reviewers felt were not adequately addressed; families evaluating this community should directly probe incident-response protocols, medication and pharmacy processes, weekend staffing coverage, and the total cost structure including refundable/deposit policies before deciding.

    About Bickford of Crown Point

Bickford of Crown Point, located at 140 E 107th Ave in Crown Point, IN, offers a variety of living options for older adults, including assisted living, memory care, and independent living. The community provides apartments in several layouts, with choices like one, two, three, and four-bedroom units, so some families pick based on their needs and preferences, and the rooms can be personalized and decorated by each resident. Seniors find rooms with private bathrooms that have door locks for privacy and security, and the kitchenettes let folks keep snacks and host visitors, which some say helps them feel more at home. Bickford of Crown Point allows pets, offers pet therapy, and is generally friendly to animal lovers. Some companions live together in shared apartments, which gives them more chances to socialize and can also be a little easier on the costs.

Caregivers and aides are always nearby to help with bathing, dressing, or taking medicine, and memory care is available to serve people living with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, all in a safe single-level community that helps prevent confusion or wandering. Skilled nursing and support for people with higher needs go along with non-medical home care, giving a mix of hands-on help and friendly company. Community members use easy-to-handle fixtures and senior-friendly showers, plus elevators and handicap-accessible features. Transportation services, including special assisted living vans, help with rides to appointments, shopping, and outings, so people still get where they want to go, and there are plenty of activities and social programs for anyone who wants to join in.

Every day, residents enjoy scratch-made meals, restaurant-style dining, and wellness programs designed to support a healthier life. The staff works under the HigherPath senior health model and runs a safety net care team to watch out for each resident's well-being. Housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry services are available, along with Wi-Fi and internet in the common areas and rooms. The facility has comforts such as a beauty and barber salon, courtyard, residents' lounge, and places for barbecues or socializing. There's a calendar full of activities and social events, which makes it easy for neighbors to spend time together and try new things.

Security features like controlled access and a doorman keep the community safe. Bickford of Crown Point protects renters against unfair eviction or discrimination, and housing policies follow federal laws on source of income and gender identity, which is meant to make people feel welcome and safe. The grounds have some parking and garage options, plus a gated entrance, though the exact details about outdoor amenities can be limited depending on the unit. The focus here is on kindness, helpfulness, and making sure everyone feels respected and comfortable. Tours are available to show how people eat, gather, and live here, and the staff works hard to make it feel like home for everyone who moves in.
