    Professional compassionate post-surgery rehab care

I stayed at Brookside Village for post-surgery rehab and was very pleased - professional, compassionate and attentive staff (special thanks to Amy Stamm), excellent therapists and nursing, spacious clean rooms with private baths, reliable transport, and plenty of activities. Families were welcomed and well-informed; overall a safe, home-like place I'd recommend for rehab or assisted living.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Brookside Village presents as a well-maintained, rehab-capable senior living community with many reviewers praising the professionalism and compassion of direct-care staff, strong therapy services, and a clean, recently renovated facility. Strengths consistently cited include attentive nurses and aides, an effective therapy team that supports successful rehabilitation, accessible common spaces, and an engaging activities schedule that includes bingo, arts and crafts, and live music. Several reviewers also highlighted practical supports such as help with VA paperwork, transportation to appointments, and dietitian-guided meals.

Care and staff: The facility's clinical and hands-on care elements receive frequent positive mention: nursing staff and therapists are described as skilled, responsive at times, and effective in rehabilitation. Many reviewers conveyed that individual caregivers went above and beyond in personal attention and comfort measures. That said, there is a pattern of unevenness in responsiveness and communication; some families described delays in attending to call bells and raised concerns about clinical decision-making and medication oversight. These concerns range from administrative communication issues to more serious clinical events, indicating that clinical governance and handoff/oversight processes may vary by shift or unit.

Dining, activities, and facilities: Dining and activity offerings are a clear strength for many residents. The facility is described as having a spacious dining room, dietitian involvement, and an activity calendar that supports social engagement and rehabilitation. Physical spaces are generally reported as clean, recently refreshed, and wheelchair-accessible, with pleasant outdoor walking areas. Room options include private and shared accommodations; however, reviewers note inconsistencies in room furnishings, ergonomics, and accessibility between units.

Management and operational patterns: Administrative and operational experiences were mixed. Positive remarks cite organized admissions and helpful staff during tours, whereas negative experiences focus on transparency around room assignments, pricing and billing communication, and perceived tone from some administrative staff. Safety- and operations-related weaknesses inferred from reviews include inconsistent call-bell response, transfer and mobility-safety practices, variability in sanitation/incontinence processes, and occasional concerns about the rehabilitative environment's safety oversight. These are operational traits rather than universal conditions, suggesting variability across shifts, units, or individual staff members.

Notable patterns and considerations for families: Many families describe excellent outcomes and a family-like atmosphere; others describe significant lapses in responsiveness or clinical oversight. Prospective residents and families would be well served to evaluate operational consistency during a visit—ask about call-bell response times and monitoring, medication-safety protocols, room-assignment policies and backup options, staffing ratios on different shifts, and how the facility documents and follows up on clinical incidents. Sampling a meal and observing an activity period can help verify dining quality and programming fit. In sum, Brookside Village offers strong therapy and many aspects of compassionate care in a clean, updated setting, but there are recurring operational areas that warrant specific inquiry during admission or a tour to ensure they meet an individual resident’s needs.

About Brookside Village Family-first Senior Living

Brookside Village Family-first Senior Living sits in Jasper, Indiana, in a quiet area with large lawns and plenty of trees, and offers a broad range of services including assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, and memory care, and they're located close to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, so residents can get to medical care if they need it. The community has both private and studio apartment homes that include wheelchair accessible showers, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, Wi-Fi, telephones, air conditioning, and are all furnished, with options for move-in coordination. People get help with everyday tasks like dressing, bathing, grooming, medication management, and there's a 24-hour call system and staff for emergencies or extra help any time of day. Meals are prepared and served restaurant-style three times a day, with specialized options for vegetarian or Kosher diets, and there's meal planning to meet individual needs.

Activities go on all week, like musical entertainment, dance performances, educational programs, spiritual services such as mass or rosary, and there's always something going on in the activity rooms, the game rooms, or the home theater with its big screen TV, and outside there are courtyards, walking paths, gardens, porches, and lawns for fresh air or outdoor programs. The fitness room keeps people moving, and a therapy gym hosts rehabilitation, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus there's a wellness/spa/salon for hair care or barber services. Brookside Village has a focus on wellness, encourages social life, and has common rooms, libraries, arts and music programs, and even a place for families to gather. Monthly rent covers things like housekeeping, laundry, flat linen service, maintenance, all utilities except phone, and Wi-Fi throughout the building, and there's scheduled and complimentary transportation for outings, errands, or medical appointments, plus parking is available.

The nursing home area holds a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the whole community has a 6.2 out of 10 rating, which is the sixth-highest in Jasper, and they're part of the CarDon and Associates network. Medicaid and Medicare are accepted, and there are programs for veterans' benefits. Hospice care, respite care after surgery, home care, and coordination with other health services like dental and podiatry can be arranged. Security and supervision is present around the clock. The community accepts people who are non-ambulatory and those who need memory care. No smoking is allowed indoors, and spiritual life is encouraged with religious services on-site and off. Staff is trained in a family-first approach, making personal care plans for each resident. Residents and families get support services, there's a life stories program, and the grounds are kept clean and pleasant with lawns and flowers. People say the place is clean, the staff treats everyone respectfully, and the food is good. This is a large community, but the neighborhood feel remains, thanks to the steady staff and involvement of the nearby Holy Family Church.
