    Compassionate attentive staff; trustworthy care

I'm very satisfied with the compassionate, attentive staff - nurses, aides, and therapists (Rachel and the proactive rehab team were excellent) - who treat residents like family. Management (Breque, Natalie, Dawn) kept us informed with timely communication, admissions and social services were seamless, and the peaceful, well-maintained facility made it a solid, trustworthy choice for long-term and memory care.

    Summary of reviews

Experiences at Brickyard Healthcare - Muncie Care Center are mixed, with a pronounced polarization between strong clinical/therapy strengths and recurring operational weaknesses. Many families and patients praise the rehabilitation and therapy teams for effective, engaging programs and clear communication during short-term stays. Several reviewers also highlighted compassionate, resident-focused staff, long-tenured employees, and well-kept outdoor spaces that contribute to a home-like environment in portions of the facility.

Clinical and hands-on care show variability. Therapy and rehabilitation services are consistently identified as a strength, with reports of proactive, engaging therapy that supports recovery. Conversely, there are repeated concerns about gaps in clinical oversight and care coordination for complex needs — examples include inconsistent wound care follow-through, missed or delayed appointments, and situations that families characterized as leading to serious outcomes. These reports point to uneven clinical processes rather than a single type of service failure.

Staffing and staff conduct are recurrent themes. Positive accounts describe attentive nurses, aides, and administrators who communicate well and go above and beyond; however, other accounts describe understaffing, workforce strain, and lapses in responsiveness. Reviewers also raised concerns about the tone and conduct of specific staff members and noted issues with staff training and certification. These contrasting impressions suggest that resident experience can depend heavily on unit staffing, shift, or individual caregivers.

Dining, activities, and amenities present similarly mixed impressions. Therapy and activity programming receive favorable comments for engagement and effectiveness, while dining quality and availability drew criticism for inconsistency, cramped or closed dining spaces, and unsatisfactory meal experiences in some instances. Common-area maintenance and amenity availability vary by unit: some families noted pleasant, well-maintained outdoor areas and a peaceful setting, while others observed dark or narrow units, closed recreation areas, broken equipment, and limited seating or restricted walkways.

Management and communication demonstrate variability across reports. Certain administrators and admissions staff were singled out for proactive, clear family communication and responsive problem-solving. At the same time, multiple accounts cite poor notification about room changes or property handling, delayed responses from leadership, and perceived cost-cutting decisions that affected resident services. There are also mentions of regulatory-survey citations and family concerns following critical clinical events, indicating areas where administrative oversight and compliance may need attention.

Notable patterns: the facility receives repeated praise for its rehabilitation services and for staff members who provide compassionate, individualized care. At the same time, persistent issues include inconsistent staffing, uneven clinical and wound-care practices, sanitation and personal-care lapses, variable facility upkeep, and breakdowns in family communication. Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions during a tour: inquire about current staffing ratios, wound- and complex-care protocols, how the facility handles resident relocations and personal property, infection-control visitation policies, and recent regulatory surveys and corrective actions. A direct, unit-level conversation with therapy, nursing leadership, and administration can help clarify whether the strengths observed in many reviews are consistently realized for a given room or care plan.

About Brickyard Healthcare - Muncie Care Center

Brickyard Healthcare - Muncie Care Center sits over in Muncie, Indiana, and covers about every kind of care a senior might need, so they handle folks who live independently, those who need a little help with daily life, and people needing skilled nursing, which means nurses are around all day and night if someone needs them. The place runs different programs including Active Adult Living, Independent and Assisted Living, Memory Care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, Home Care with both non-medical help and Medicare-Certified visiting nurses, Adult Day Services for people who just need care part of the day, Long-Term Care for folks staying a good while, and Hospice Care for end of life. They've got their own terms for how they run things, and they've focused on making sure people who come here get medical help, personal assistance, and attention to safety.

Muncie Care Center's Skilled Nursing Facility gives care to folks who need nursing home stays, people recovering after a hospital stay, and those who need rehab, whether it's short or long term. There's also a Memory Care section with alarms on the doors, a safe area outside, and staff who know what to do for those with memory loss. The staff have been praised for being committed, and the executive director, Kaushik Patel, leads the place. The center received the 2018 AHCA/NCAL Bronze Quality Award, which means some outside group thought they were doing a good job.

If someone needs physical therapy, stroke care, diabetic help, dialysis, pain management, or help recovering after surgery or illness, they offer those services along with wound care, counseling, and help with medicines and daily tasks. There are medical services from podiatry to dental and eye care, and nurses handle IVs, plus they set up visits from doctors. The staff also covers things like dressing, bathing, grooming, mobility help, and toileting, and there are personalized care assistants to help residents with everything.

They've got amenities like private suites, kitchens and kitchenettes, cable TV, internet, guest parking, housecleaning, laundry, and help with linens, so a person can keep their space tidy. The plumbing and sprinkler systems and handicap features help keep everyone safe. Folks can enjoy the dining room, snack options, a fitness center, beauty shop, and family lounges. There are all kinds of activities, church services, transportation, walking and wheelchair help, educational programs, and social events, including arts and crafts and wellness programs, so there's always something to do if a person wants it.

The center accepts long term care insurance and VA contract patients, and the focus always seems to land on finding the right kind of care for each person living there, whatever the need might be. They do short and long-term stays along with outpatient therapy, and every care type is available right at the facility.
