    Comfortable Caring Senior Living Experience

I moved into Wickshire West Lafayette and have been very pleased - the meals are amazing (Chef Larry deserves credit) with three hot meals a day, weekly apartment cleaning, and rides to doctor appointments that make life easy. The staff are warm, professional, and quick to respond; Mary Amezquita and Kim were especially helpful with the pre-move preview, move-in and apartment setup. Social Hour Fridays, games, karaoke and holiday brunches keep things lively in a small, homey, resident-centered environment. I feel well cared for and would happily recommend Wickshire.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for this assisted living community present a mixed but clear pattern: many families and volunteers praise the facility for its warm, home-like environment, active programming, and a caregiving staff that in many instances is experienced and personally engaged. Positive descriptions emphasize compassionate caregivers, a lively activities calendar (games, social hours, holiday brunches, Joyrides/volunteer opportunities), helpful move-in support, weekly apartment cleaning, transportation to appointments, and a dining program that in multiple accounts features chef-led, from-scratch meals. Several reviewers specifically noted strong, visible leadership and recent management or director changes that have been received positively by some families.

At the same time, there are persistent operational concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate closely. The most serious themes relate to medication-management and clinical oversight, with accounts indicating delays, incorrect dosing, and inconsistent administration processes. These clinical-control weaknesses are often linked in the reviews to staffing shortages and turnover, which reviewers said create variability in care continuity. Families also described gaps in internal communication and follow-through between administrative and care teams, and difficulty reaching placement or administrative contacts in a timely manner.

Facility upkeep and service consistency are additional areas of concern. Multiple reviewers raised pest-control and general sanitation or maintenance issues, as well as isolated reports of mold and unrepaired equipment, suggesting weaknesses in facilities maintenance protocols. Dining received both strong praise and criticism: while some enjoy high-quality, chef-prepared meals, others reported abrupt reductions in meal options or declines in food quality after operational changes, indicating inconsistent dining-service continuity. Transportation services were noted as helpful when available but also subject to interruption.

Management and ownership perceptions are mixed, and this is an important pattern to consider. Several reviewers commended the new director and leadership team for improved organization and resident focus; others expressed concern about turnover, communication transparency, and prioritization of financial goals over operational fixes. The overall tenor of the reviews is polarized — many firsthand accounts highlight dedicated staff who go above and beyond, while other accounts raise significant operational and safety-related issues. Prospective residents and families should request current documentation of medication administration protocols, staffing ratios and turnover statistics, pest-control and maintenance records, and recent resident-family communication examples before making a placement decision. A tour that includes meeting nursing leadership, seeing recent maintenance work orders, and sampling current menus and activities will help verify which of these patterns reflects the current state of the community.

    About West Lafayette Assisted Living

West Lafayette Assisted Living sits in a quiet residential area and offers a safe, welcoming place for seniors who need support as they age, and the atmosphere is warm and homelike, with a big fireplace in the living room where people often gather to talk. This community provides assisted living, independent living, nursing home care, respite care, hospice services, and memory care all in one place, so residents can get more help if they need it without leaving. Healthcare staff are always on site, day and night, and caregivers get special training on how to help with things like incontinence, managing diabetes, and helping those who can't get around on their own. Residents usually have private rooms, with options for companion rooms, and big windows bring in lots of natural light, while attached bathrooms have walk-in showers and grab bars to help prevent falls.

The apartments come with a kitchenette for those who want to fix a snack or coffee, and there are several indoor and outdoor spaces, like the sunroom with wicker chairs, a cozy lounge with big windows, a reflection room for quiet time, and a courtyard with raised garden beds and a sunflower gate, plus an indoor laundry with plenty of washers and dryers, and storage for everyone's things. People can stay busy with daily activities, exercise classes, arts and crafts, billiards, a TV lounge, computer room, and a library, along with special events and entertainment, and there's even a beauty salon right on site. Religious services are offered for Protestant and Catholic faiths, and a peaceful room is there for prayer or contemplation.

Dining is a big part of life here, with restaurant-style meals cooked by chefs who care about nutrition and taste, room service is available, and there are menu choices to fit special diets like gluten-free or low-sodium needs, plus a private dining room for family visits or special events. The staff helps with chores like laundry and housekeeping, and seniors who have pets are welcome to bring their dogs or cats along. There's a focus on helping people stay as independent as possible, with support for things like dressing, bathing, and taking medicine, and residents often say the staff treat them like family. The management teams try hard to make life enjoyable, responding to feedback and organizing things like holiday brunches, and the community has won awards for dining, activities, and friendliness. Fast Wi-Fi reaches throughout the building, and there's help with groceries, resident parking, and free transportation when people need to go out. The facility prides itself on giving people privacy, safety, and a sense of belonging, and the staff are always available to assist if someone needs a hand.
