    Compassionate, safe, homey senior care

I toured and moved my mom here and have been very pleased - the staff are cheerful, engaged, long-tenured and really go above and beyond, calling residents by name and treating them like family. The community is homey with lots of activities (bingo, live music, bus outings to Walmart/Target), a salon, laundry, dining room and therapy services; rooms are cozy and well cared for. Costs were clearly explained, Medicaid and private-pay options available, and management is stable and responsive. My mom has thrived - I recommend this place for families wanting compassionate, safe, good-value care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Sanders Glen is described by many families as a community with a strong, resident-centered caregiving culture. Reviewers consistently praise long-tenured staff, responsive nursing, and an active programming calendar; the facility is often characterized as home-like, clean, and convenient, with a range of apartment sizes and basic amenities such as a salon, gym, courtyard, and bus transportation. Management stability and clear tour/cost processes are also highlighted, and the facility accepts Medicaid which some families view as strong value for price.

Care and staff: The dominant theme across accounts is that staff are compassionate, familiar with residents, and willing to go above and beyond. Nursing and therapy services (physical and occupational) receive positive remarks for responsiveness and effectiveness, and infection-control measures during the pandemic are noted favorably. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns: medication-management processes, staffing levels, and the skill mix among aides are described as uneven in some instances. An allegation involving medication handling and billing prompted a recommendation to notify Medicare in one account; prospective families should verify medication-administration protocols, staff training, escalation pathways, and incident-reporting procedures during a tour.

Dining and nutrition: Feedback on food is mixed. Several families describe attractive dining options, a la carte menus, and the opportunity to sample meals, while others cite repetitive menus, limited fresh produce and variety, and inconsistent meal preparation. Some reviewers connecting meal quality to kitchen staffing and communication challenges. Prospective residents should ask about current menus, special-diet handling, and meal-sampling opportunities to assess fit.

Activities, amenities, and apartments: Activity programming and resident engagement are clear strengths—bingo, live music, outings to restaurants and stores, and themed events are commonly mentioned. On-site amenities and included services such as twice-monthly apartment cleaning and complimentary laundry contribute to a residential feel. Apartment sizes are often described as appropriate for assisted living, though finishes and décor are variably dated; some units are noted as modernized while others would benefit from updates. Housekeeping and maintenance follow-through appear inconsistent in some accounts, so clarification of cleaning schedules and maintenance response times is advised.

Management, logistics, and notable patterns: Management longevity and a family-oriented approach are positive patterns, along with clear pricing disclosures at tour time. However, reviewers also raised concerns about pricing increases, occasional billing disputes, and limited unit availability due to low turnover. Post-acute and hospital-to-facility transitions were described as variable by different families. In making a placement decision, families should balance the facility’s clear strengths in personalized caregiving, therapy services, and activities against operational areas flagged by reviewers—specifically medication safeguards, staffing consistency, dining quality, and billing/fee transparency. A recommended next step is an in-person tour that includes meetings with nursing leadership, a review of medication-administration policies, sample meals, and a walk-through of unit options and maintenance procedures.

About Sanders Glen Assisted Living Center

Sanders Glen Assisted Living Center, also called Sanders Glen Retirement Community, sits in a quiet neighborhood near downtown Westfield, Indiana, right by the Midland Trace Trail, and the place welcomes seniors who need different kinds of care including assisted living, memory care, independent living, nursing care, and even hospice when necessary, so people don't have to move when their needs change, and the whole property feels peaceful with its two-story buildings, ample parking spaces for both visitors and residents, lots of indoor and outdoor common areas like patios, plus a Veterans Corridor to honor service, and residents have apartments that come in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts with sizes that range from 489 to 789 square feet, and people can bring their pets. They call their little shops the "Carey Shops," and activities fill each day from group games and crafts to regular fitness studio classes, visits from beauticians in the onsite salon, devotional gatherings, and outings in the community van, and chefs cook balanced, tasty meals with fresh soup and salad bars in two big dining rooms while residents, friends, and family enjoy Wi-Fi, cable TV, a nice library with huge windows, a movie lounge, and even a public computer for emails or games. The staff say they want a home-like, joyful atmosphere and most residents say the people working there feel kind and become friends, with 24/7 support if someone needs help with things like bathing, getting dressed, taking medicines, or moving about, and the place stays clean since there's scheduled housekeeping, laundry, and linen changes. There's no smoking allowed indoors, and the building's designed to be accessible for folks who use a wheelchair or need extra help. Some people like to spend time in the garden areas or walk the nearby trail, and others stay busy with the scheduled social and wellness activities, church or faith programs, and therapy sessions. Sanders Glen says they're a verified and licensed community, and their website is sandersglen.com if folks want to take a look or arrange a tour to see the apartments, dining options, or the range of activities. The place does allow residents to decorate their own apartments, and there's plenty of storage. Complimentary transportation is included, so residents get to appointments or outings safely, and with nurse support along with extra healthcare staff, people feel secure. The staff try to respect every person's independence as much as they can while still lending a hand day or night, and the staff say residents' well-being matters most, which you notice in the small details, like a clean lounge, helpful smiles, and friendly greetings at every corner.
