    Caring staff, systemic understaffing persists

I loved the few caring nurses and CNAs - Brenda Knoop is exceptional, the laundry is clean, and pet therapy creates a warm, smile-filled vibe - but I experienced chronic understaffing and neglect: residents ignored or left wet for hours, broken promises about care, cleanliness/bed-bug problems, and real safety risks. The friendly staff can't mask systemic, unethical management and high agency turnover. I cannot recommend this facility until leadership and staffing are fixed.

    About Sunnycrest Nursing Center

Sunnycrest Nursing Center takes care to offer a safe and supportive place for seniors, where staff give personal help based on each person's health needs, and folks moving in can get help with the move and enjoy regular community-sponsored activities, and if someone wants to get their hair done there's a beauty salon right there in the building, and there are comfortable spots like common areas, a garden, outdoor space to get some fresh air, and a small library for anyone who wants to read, and rooms come fully furnished with cable, housekeeping, linens, kitchenettes, phones, and Wi-Fi, so people have what they need. Meals are served in a dining room with restaurant-style service, where staff can prepare meals for special diets like diabetic-friendly options, and there's help with medication and programs to support mental wellness. The staff provide help with daily things like bathing, dressing, and moving around, and healthcare workers are on hand with a 24-hour call system if medical care is needed, whether someone needs a little help or round-the-clock care. There's respite care for those who only need short-term help, and seniors can stay as their needs change, whether in independent living, assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing, which means folks can age in place and not worry about moving around so much.

Residents in independent living get to enjoy a maintenance-free lifestyle, resort-style touches, and can join social events, while skilled nursing helps with health needs like medication, wound care, rehab, and constant care, and the memory care area gives 24-hour support and activities meant to help those with Alzheimer's or dementia in a secure space. The staff can handle non-ambulatory care, incontinence, and diabetic needs, and there are devotional activities for folks' spiritual lives, plus on-site and offsite activities, and an arts room for crafts. There's a friendly, homelike setting, and the staff work with compassion to help people feel comfortable and safe, with a focus on serving the whole resident, not just their medical needs. The building has 50 certified beds with about 33 residents at a time, it's not in a hospital, and it takes part in both Medicare and Medicaid. Support is always available, with a mix of CNA, LPN, and RN staff giving different levels of care. The facility doesn't have sprinklers, but it does offer licensed skilled care, intermediate nursing, restorative care, inpatient and outpatient therapies, help with bathing and dressing, and coordination for medication, and rooms come cleaned with linens provided. Families and residents can be part of councils to get involved and share feedback. Walks in parks and gardens or joining a movie night are all part of daily life there, and for those who need a secure memory care setting or more attention, the staff offer what's needed with steady supervision and support. Sunnycrest isn't in a hospital, but it covers a wide range of care types under a for-profit ownership and is part of a bigger group of nursing home owners.
