    Devoted, friendly staff; clean rooms

I've been very satisfied with the devoted, friendly staff - ownership and caregivers go above and beyond, keep visits safe, and create a warm, attentive atmosphere. The building is well kept and clean, my roomy room is cared for, and the kitchen serves good, tailored meals; I feel healthier and happier here.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a polarized picture of Advena Living of Bonner Springs: several accounts describe high-quality, compassionate care and meaningful operational improvements, while others raise substantive operational concerns that affect daily living. Strengths cited include attentive caregivers, engaged ownership, and reports of effective skilled nursing and rehabilitation for some residents. Multiple reviewers also praised the dining staff for tailoring meals and noted pleasant rooms and a generally hospitable atmosphere in parts of the facility.

Care quality and staffing show a mixed pattern. Positive comments highlight staff who go above and beyond, frequent family visitation facilitation, and visible improvements since a change in administration. Conversely, other feedback points to gaps in clinical skill and training, long call-response times, incontinence-care delays, and staff distraction or reduced engagement at times. There is a recurring theme of high turnover and reliance on agency staff; reviewers identify this as a contributing factor to inconsistent care continuity and staff morale.

Dining and activities are likewise inconsistent across reports. Several reviewers commended the kitchen and said meals were tailored and well prepared. At the same time, others described issues with meal temperature and quality. Activity programming is another area of divergence: some residents have access to regular engagement, while other accounts indicate minimal organized activities and missing activity logs or documentation.

Facility upkeep and housekeeping produce conflicting impressions. Some comments describe clean, well-kept common areas and roomy private rooms; others raise sanitation and odor concerns in common and resident areas, sticky or unclean floors, and inconsistent housekeeping practices. Privacy is also a concern for some families because of shared rooms and limited in-room communication devices.

Management and administration responses vary in reviewersโ€™ experience. New administration and certain leadership actions are credited with positive changes and improved responsiveness, yet there are also reports of unresolved documentation or technology issues, communication-style concerns in staff interactions, and one allegation of an unpaid final paycheck. These items suggest variability in operational reliability and family communication.

For prospective residents and families: this facility warrants an in-person, targeted evaluation. Suggested focus areas for a visit include observing mealtime service and temperature, asking about staffing ratios and agency-staff usage, reviewing activity schedules and documentation, inspecting resident-room cleanliness and in-room communication devices, and discussing sanitation protocols and resolution timelines for family concerns. Confirming payroll and administrative processes with human resources may also be prudent given the administrative allegation noted in the feedback. Overall, there are clear strengths worth considering alongside specific operational issues that should be clarified before a placement decision.
