    Caring staff; clean, safe, recommended

I toured with a family member and felt very comfortable - the staff are caring, attentive, and treat residents like family. The facility is clean, safe, and well-run, with strong nursing and therapy teams, helpful social work/management, and clear communication. Residents seem happy and engaged; staff consistently go above and beyond. I'm very satisfied and would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews indicate a facility with pronounced strengths in person-centered care, rehabilitation, and an engaged caregiving culture, alongside notable operational weaknesses that prospective families should evaluate. Many accounts describe warm, attentive nursing and therapy teams that create a family-like atmosphere, deliver strong rehab outcomes, and provide individualized attention; social work and hospice coordination are also cited as constructive supports. Facility upkeep and the general appearance of the building are frequently praised, and activities/events are commonly described as engaging and well-run when programming is available.

At the same time, reviews reveal a pattern of care-delivery inconsistencies. Clinical concerns include inconsistent medication and diabetes management practices (including insulin administration and carbohydrate information for meals) and reports of delayed escalation to higher-acuity care or hospital transport. These items point to gaps in medication-administration controls and clinical-incident response processes. Families should ask about medication-safety protocols, diabetes management procedures, and emergency/transport escalation pathways when evaluating the facility.

Staffing and staff conduct emerge as mixed: many reviewers highlight compassionate, knowledgeable, and unhurried staff who know residents well, while other accounts describe defensive or inexperienced staff behavior and uneven training. This suggests variability in professionalism and competence across shifts or units rather than a uniformly poor or uniformly excellent workforce. Leadership involvement and department heads receive positive mention, but there are perceptions of inconsistent supervisory tone in some clinical areas.

Dining and nutrition received both praise and criticism. Positive notes include staff going above and beyond to make residents comfortable, but operational weaknesses are evident in meal quality, clarity of carbohydrate counts, and the absence of a clear qualified nutrition-management presence. There are also isolated but serious allegations related to meal-linked illness; families should request information about dietitian oversight, meal planning, and any incident investigations.

Facility maintenance and housekeeping are generally seen as strengths overall, but several reviews note sanitation and linen-change lapses, room repairs, and broken equipment in specific instances. These point to uneven maintenance processes and supply/housekeeping workflows that occasionally fail to meet expectations. Activity programming is described as enjoyable and well-supported when running, though pandemic-related or infection-control limitations have reduced offerings at times.

Communication and administration are additional areas of concern. Reviewers cite unclear billing statements, limited owner contact information, slow or unresponsive front-desk and phone handling, and inconsistent family communication following incidents. Prospective residents and families should request clear billing practices, contact points for escalation, and a communication plan for clinical incidents.

Bottom line: Lansing Care & Rehabilitation Center displays many of the attributes families seekโ€”compassionate caregivers, effective rehab services, and a welcoming atmosphereโ€”but also exhibits operational and clinical variability that has led to serious concerns in isolated cases. Recommended next steps for families: tour the unit during shift change to observe staffing; ask for written protocols for medication safety, diabetes care, and emergency transport; request dietitian involvement and sample menus with carbohydrate counts; review housekeeping and maintenance schedules; and obtain clarity on billing practices and escalation contacts. These targeted questions will help determine whether the facilityโ€™s strengths will meet an individual residentโ€™s clinical and quality-of-life needs.

About Lansing Care & Rehabilitation Center

Lansing Care & Rehabilitation Center sits in Lansing, Kansas as a small skilled nursing facility with 58 certified beds, usually keeping only a few beds open at a time, and this place takes both Medicare and Medicaid. This center offers personalized care and covers so many health needs, and you'll find everything from long-term care and rehabilitative services to short stays for folks needing extra help. Patients get care plans tailored to their situation, and care teams provide skilled nursing with 12 to 16 hours of nursing each day, plus there's always a 24-hour call system for safety and someone watching out for residents at all hours. The center offers comprehensive therapy, like inpatient rehab, orthopedic rehab, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, and even cardiac therapy, trying to help residents recover and stay active, and they take care of wound care, palliative care, tracheotomy services, IV antibiotic therapy, and hospice support. People living there can get help with daily activities, things like bathing, dressing, transfers, medication management, and if someone's got specific dietary needs-allergies, diabetes, anything else-the dining service can handle that with meals made by a professional chef and options served all day, with a restaurant-style setup. The rooms come furnished, have private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, telephones, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, meant for comfort, and there's help for emergencies with an alert system in every room. Lansing Care & Rehabilitation Center has outdoor spaces and walking paths, garden spots, a fitness area, a library, a spa or sauna, and places for folks to stay social like the business room, activity room, and arts and music programs, and there are also daily activities such as movie nights, group games, and resident-run clubs, plus regular outings and community-sponsored events so boredom's not much of a problem. The staff speaks English and works as part of a supportive environment focused on the well-being of everyone, providing care to folks who can walk and those who can't, offering all-day supervision, and organizing different therapies as needed. If needed, families can arrange for short-term stays under respite care. There are special services like transportation for medical appointments, emergency systems, and even help with moving in, and caregivers handle laundry, housekeeping, and concierge help to keep things running smoothly. Lansing Care & Rehabilitation Center scored an A grade on its latest inspection and keeps a quality rating between C and A over time, landing a respectable B overall, and since it's for-profit and has a resident and family council, families have a way to stay involved and informed about what's going on. The community is built for folks who need long-term care or rehabilitation, and people here tend to get solid medical support in a comfortable setting, always with an eye on each person's dignity and health.
