    Resident very pleased with community

I live here and I'm very pleased. The campus and homes are beautiful, well-designed and impeccably clean, with cheerful artwork and nice landscaping. Staff are kind, attentive and know residents well - therapy and nursing care were outstanding and helped restore independence. Meals are tasty, activities are engaging, and the homelike, secure atmosphere feels comforting. I happily recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Paramount Community Living and Rehab presents a mixed profile with substantial strengths in hands-on caregiving, rehabilitation services, and campus amenities alongside operational concerns that prospective residents and families should weigh. Many reviewers praised frontline caregivers and nursing staff for being attentive, compassionate, and knowledgeable; several accounts highlight excellent rehabilitation and physical-therapy outcomes, personalized care plans, and strong coordination between therapy and nursing. The facility offers a range of residential options — including newer assisted-living units, memory-care neighborhoods, Green House/Eden Alternative–style homes, and independent duplexes — and a number of reviews describe a home-like, well-designed environment in parts of the campus.

Dining and activities are generally cited as positive features. There is an on-site dining program with balanced meal choices, a visible activities calendar, monthly offerings, arts-and-crafts, chair exercise, walks, and social events that support resident engagement. Specific amenities such as a beauty shop, bird exhibit, ice cream bar, and visible exercise areas augment the lifestyle offering. Reviewers also commonly report clean interiors and a secure campus atmosphere, which many families identified as reassuring.

However, there are recurring operational themes that suggest variability in resident experience. Several reviews describe staffing instability, turnover, and post-acquisition cost pressures that appear to have affected staff morale and task prioritization. Relatedly, some accounts indicate gaps in responsiveness (for example, delays in attending to needs or medication/timing issues) and uneven communication with families. Food quality and vendor management are cited inconsistently — while many note tasteful, balanced meals, other accounts describe declines or variability in meal quality.

Facility condition and campus layout are uneven: parts of the campus include newer, modernized buildings and cheerful small-home models, while other wings and duplexes are older and require different levels of maintenance. Secured outdoor access for residents with higher-care needs is limited in certain areas. Financial practices also deserve attention; reviewers referenced a non-refundable hold deposit and extra charges for add-on services, contributing to a perception of a revenue-focused approach by ownership.

A subset of reviews raised serious concerns, including allegations about administrative conduct and clinical oversight. These accounts contrast sharply with many descriptions of excellent, compassionate staff and strong therapy programs. Prospective residents and families should consider visiting multiple parts of the campus, asking specific questions about staffing levels and turnover, medication administration protocols, family communication procedures, fee schedules and refund policies, and outdoor security for memory-care residents. Together, the pattern of strong clinical/rehabilitation performance and active programming, paired with operational variability and management-related concerns, suggests that individual experiences at this campus can differ substantially depending on unit, timing, and leadership in place.

About Paramount Community Living and Rehab

Paramount Community Living and Rehab sits at 200 SW 14th St in Newton, Kansas, surrounded by 34 acres of green spaces, and it serves as a not-for-profit retirement community since 2021, though the place has over 55 years of caring service behind it. The staff includes Cambri Koehn, Insurance Billing Clerk Megan Naylor, CMA Heather Schiefelbein, and Director of Nursing Krystle Lara, all of whom help run a wide range of care and support for adults of all ages. The community provides several types of care, such as independent living with rental cottages and patio homes, assisted living, memory support, rapid recovery for those needing to regain strength, and 24-hour skilled nursing care. Paramount has both Green House Homes and traditional nursing care rooms in Nelson Hall, and most rooms are private, which many folks find important for comfort. Residents can enjoy walkable paths, outdoor patios, gathering and activity spaces, a fitness center, a theater room, and even a pet-friendly environment with access to salon and barber services. Meals come from a professional chef, with options for dietary needs, dining rooms, and room service, plus there's always someone to help manage medication.

The facility welcomes everyone with activities suited to different interests, from gardening club and arts and crafts to live performances, birthday parties, day trips, grocery shopping outings, chapel services, devotional gatherings, and intergenerational programs with local kids, which many folks say brings a special energy to the place. They offer both long-term and short-term (respite) care, which can be arranged for a day or a month, so family caregivers can take a break while their loved one recovers or just rests. Services cover everything from laundry and housekeeping to onsite and offsite religious services, with bus lines nearby and transportation options for errands or doctor visits.

Safety is always a focus, with accessible showers, high-speed Wi-Fi, cable TV, washers and dryers in most homes, and security features. There's a structured program for social, educational, and fitness activities every week, and staff remain available day and night. The community supports wellness on all levels-physical, social, emotional, and spiritual-which is clear in their programming and thoughtful, personalized care. Independence is encouraged, but assistance for daily living is there if needed, so people can enjoy life at their own pace, plus the location puts residents close to restaurants, shopping, churches, and Newton Medical Center if anything comes up. The place provides nursing, rehabilitation, and healthcare services tailored for changing needs, with a commitment to kind and respectful support. Paramount is well regarded locally for its gentle approach and sense of belonging, and they make a point to help everyone feel at home during each stage of aging.
