    Friendly staff, great meals, independence

I live at Thornton Place and am very pleased - the staff (Rhonda and Annie stand out) are caring and attentive, the meals are delicious, and there's a lively schedule of activities and outings. My bright, roomy apartment and the clean, well-maintained grounds plus on-site home-health support give me peace of mind; I've made friends and feel safe, supported, and independent.

    Summary of reviews

Holiday Thornton Place presents as an active independent-living community with several commonly cited strengths. Many reviewers describe a warm, social atmosphere supported by an engaged activities program that includes themed events, outings, music and game nights, and regular transportation for appointments and trips. The staff are frequently characterized as compassionate and resident-focused; families commonly credit staff members with improving residents' quality of life and with providing hands‑on assistance during move-in and transitions. The property offers a range of apartment layouts, bright units with balconies or patios, multiple common areas, on-site salon services, and plans for ongoing renovations, all of which contribute to a generally well-maintained appearance for many parts of the campus.

At the same time, reviews indicate notable operational weaknesses that prospective residents and families should evaluate closely. Food service is a recurrent area of inconsistency: some residents praise chef-prepared meals, while others describe frequent declines in quality, reduced menu choices, and problems accommodating dietary needs. Housekeeping and supplies have been inconsistently available at times, and there are multiple mentions of pest-control concerns and cleaning lapses in certain units or common areas. Staffing stability is a clear pattern: reviewers report staff shortages, turnover, and gaps in clinical coverage (including limited or no night staff), which can affect response times, activity availability, and routine services.

Management and administrative practices are another frequent theme. Several accounts describe delays or difficulties with billing, deposits, fee changes, and communication about ownership or policy shifts—families should verify current fee structures, meal policies, and refund procedures. Ownership and operational changes have been noted, and some reviewers link those changes to perceived declines in service or pricing adjustments. There are also serious operational concerns flagged by reviewers — including allegations related to theft and medication security — that merit direct inquiry with management and review of facility policies and incident records.

Practical safety and accessibility issues are also highlighted: limited elevator redundancy and constrained egress have been associated with accessibility challenges for residents using walkers or scooters and with operational risk when elevators are out of service. Transportation is available but has been described as unreliable at times. Finally, there is variability in fit: the community is structured as independent living (not assisted living or memory care), so families should assess care needs carefully; some reviewers felt the community met those needs well, while others felt residents requiring more hands-on or memory support would be better served elsewhere.

In sum, Holiday Thornton Place offers many of the amenities and social supports sought in independent-living communities — strong activity programming, caring staff, and attractive apartments — but also demonstrates variability in dining, housekeeping, staffing consistency, pest control, and management responsiveness. Prospective residents and families should tour the campus, request current staffing and incident records, confirm service and fee policies in writing, ask about pest-control history and corrective actions, and verify elevator/accessibility arrangements to determine whether the facility’s current operational state matches their expectations and care requirements.

    About Holiday Thornton Place

Holiday Thornton Place sits in a quiet woodland area near the city, so you get peace and town convenience at the same time, and you'll find a range of options here for older adults, with independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care all under one roof, and you'll see there are comfortable studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, some with patios or balconies and walk-in closets, plus cottages for those who want more space and privacy, and the apartments are set up with kitchenettes or full kitchens, self-controlled heating and air, walk-in showers or tubs, and cable TV included, which makes daily life easier, so people who come here can bring their pets since Holiday Thornton Place allows pet-friendly options, and the place is set up for wheelchairs with accessible bathrooms and easy outdoor paths, and there's covered parking for residents who still drive.

Residents get three meals each day in a restaurant-style dining area with chef-inspired food, paid for in one monthly rent, and there's outdoor space with gardens, patios, and walking paths for fresh air, while inside you can find a fireplace, computer areas, large TV lounge, and a gym, and you can get your hair cut with an on-site barber or use the beauty salon. Housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry for linens are taken care of for everyone, so folks don't have to worry about chores, and there's free scheduled transportation for errands, doctor appointments, and trips to local places, whether that's museums, shopping, a baseball game, or even seeing Christmas lights, which can be a nice way to keep busy and stay connected.

Holiday Thornton Place welcomes adults 55 and older, and you can bring men or women depending on the unit, and the community keeps an active social calendar with the Engage Life® program, so there are always activities, crafts, outings, religious services, and events on-site and off-site, along with opportunities for socializing in the common areas or at meals, which helps people make friends. Security is important, so every resident gets a Lively® Mobile Plus device for emergency help, and the building has nurse support, plus on-site health services like home care, home health, and therapies such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy provided by partners like Interim HealthCare, which can be helpful for recovery, diabetes care, medication administration, and more, with other support available for daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or moving around when needed.

The community works as a continuing care retirement place, with options for independent seniors and ways to add more help if someone's needs change, and specialized memory care is available for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, with secured areas to prevent wandering and limit confusion, and skilled care is also offered for those needing wound care or more medical attention, though you'll pay more if you need these services. You can host overnight guests and invite friends for meals, and the place runs devotion services and offers personal touches like gardening or group events.

The building went through a full renovation in 2024, so the interiors are fresh and modern, yet still simple and easy to move through, and Holiday Thornton Place has been certified as a Great Place to Work®. People concerned about costs can ask about payment plans, VA Benefits assistance, and all-inclusive rates, and anyone interested can look at available floor plans and monthly rents, and they welcome you to come see the community or arrange a tour when you're ready.
