    Caring staff, clean and homey

I moved my mother here and I'm very pleased - the staff are caring, attentive and personal (special shoutout to nurse TJ), and leadership is strong and compassionate. The facility is clean, cozy and well-maintained with a pleasant dining room, porch and courtyard; meals are good and activities (bingo, exercise, church, salon, guest musicians) keep her engaged, so it truly feels like home.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Tender Touch Heart & Home is characterized by a small, home-like environment with generally high marks for cleanliness, individualized attention, and an active social program. Many reviewers highlighted compassionate caregiving, frequent safety checks, and staff members who provide personalized, hands-on service; several specific staff (for example, named nursing staff) received individual praise. The facility presents as well-maintained and fresh, with a pleasant dining room, courtyard, and accessible walking areas that support a comfortable daily routine.

Care and staff: Care quality is described positively in many accounts, with staff described as attentive, helpful, and proactive. Families noted compassionate end-of-life care and staff efforts to accommodate individual preferences. At the same time, there are recurrent comments about variability in staff and administrative tone — some family members found front-office staff abrupt or short in communications. This pattern suggests generally strong direct caregiving but inconsistent interpersonal communication from certain administrative or supervisory personnel. Reviewers also noted a need for clearer, more consistent family communication around clinical decisions and recovery plans.

Dining: Dining spaces are consistently praised for atmosphere, lighting, and furniture. Meal quality is generally considered good, but reviewers mentioned occasional dips in quality and limited menu flexibility. Some residents receive delivered meals and there were notes about limited meal options at times. Prospective families may wish to ask about menu rotation, special-diet accommodations, and meal-service consistency during tours.

Activities and amenities: The activity program is a clear strength — regular offerings include bingo, cards, dominoes, exercise classes, church services, guest musicians, sing-alongs, and weekly salon services. An activity bus is available though not all families have used it. Communal gathering opportunities and on-site salon services contribute to social engagement and convenience for residents.

Facilities and living units: Common spaces and the building interior are described as clean, fresh, and cozy. The facility’s smaller scale supports a home-like feel. Individual resident rooms are reported as small, and there are no adjoining-room options, which may limit space and roommate flexibility for some residents. Outdoor courtyard and porch spaces were noted positively for walking and visiting.

Management, policies, and notable patterns: Several reviewers remarked on restrictive visitation policies (including limits on visiting during meal times and rules about young children), often in the context of infection-control measures. Administrative communication has been an inconsistent area; examples include billing or rent miscommunications that were resolved, and some families described abrupt or unprofessional interactions with administrative staff. There are also mentions of gaps in transparency around clinical decision-making and family notification during recovery periods. Prospective residents and families should consider asking direct questions about visitation rules, admission paperwork and billing processes, and how clinical decisions are communicated to families.

Recommendation guidance: For those seeking a small, well-kept facility with an active social calendar and personalized caregiving, Tender Touch Heart & Home appears to offer solid value and a home-like setting. Families who place high priority on predictable administrative communication, larger private rooms, or greater flexibility in visitation should raise these topics during a visit and request specifics on policies, meal planning, and clinical communication protocols before making a placement decision.

About Tender Touch Heart & Home

Tender Touch Heart & Home sits in a building that used to be a school, so you'll see touches of that old charm across the second and third floors, where 19 apartments are set up-most are large studios and there's one even bigger one-bedroom apartment that fits folks needing more space. Each apartment gives you a roomy living area, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, storage in the kitchen, and things people often ask for like cable TV, free Wi-Fi, a phone jack, microwave, and mini fridge, plus all the rooms have an emergency call button, which brings peace of mind to families and residents alike. Meals happen in a shared dining room, with kitchenettes in apartments for when you want to make a snack, and there's always someone nearby to help with reminders for medicine, check-ins for wound care, or lend a hand with bathing, dressing, and all the things that help people feel steady and confident in daily living. The cost is all-inclusive, meaning you pay one fee for the apartment and services, so there aren't any surprise charges that pop up later.

Everyone who lives here can join in on group activities in the media room, spend time outside on the grounds, or meet up in spacious family lounges on every floor; and it's never quiet for long, since staff plan events and support groups that welcome both residents and visitors from the broader neighborhood. Folks at Tender Touch Heart & Home can count on help with transportation to shopping, appointments, or local outings, and the staff are on-site all day and all night, ready to assist or just spend time visiting. This place takes Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity seriously, making sure no resident gets unfair treatment-care and attention is for everyone, which is at the heart of how things are run. Individual care plans are the norm here, from help with daily activities to medication management or dietary counseling, all shaped around what each person truly needs. Family, friends, and neighbors gather often, making the community feel lively and homey, with a vintage style that keeps things warm and calming.

Since opening back in 2003, Tender Touch Heart & Home-owned by Dona and Roger McCurry-has built a name for treating residents with kindness while supporting both assisted living and memory care needs, meaning residents who need more reminders or hands-on help can still feel respected and at ease. There's always staff trained in both clinical care and compassion, and with all the amenities, group activities, and the spirit of togetherness under one roof, there's never a shortage of comfort, familiarity, and support.
