    Beautiful campus and attentive staff

I felt blessed leaving my grandmother here - the campus is beautiful, clean and tastefully decorated, and the staff were consistently friendly, loving and attentive. Nurses and CNAs guided us through everything, kept us updated on activities, and helped my grandmother regain strength and return home, giving us real peace of mind. I highly recommend this family-oriented, caring place and would definitely return.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed picture of Ridgecrest Community Care Center. Many families praised the physical environment and the interpersonal side of care: the campus and grounds are described as attractive, interiors as clean and tastefully appointed, and numerous accounts highlight friendly, compassionate staff and a family-oriented atmosphere. Several reviewers specifically noted long-tenured nursing leadership, engaging activities that residents enjoy, and cases where short-term rehabilitation met expectations and supported a return home.

At the same time, recurring operational and clinical concerns appear across reviews. There are consistent references to gaps in clinical monitoring and coordination, including issues with documentation and medication handling. These clinical weaknesses are coupled with accounts of staffing challenges: understaffing, uneven CNA training, and lapses in responsiveness—particularly overnight—resulting in delayed assistance and inconsistent delivery of personal-care tasks such as bathing and incontinence support.

Staff conduct and supervisory oversight are another area of divergence. While many describe compassionate caregivers who provide clear updates, other accounts cite abrupt or rude communication, distracted staff behavior during shifts, and episodes indicating weak frontline supervision. Relatedly, families noted administrative follow-through problems, including delayed financial resolution or unclear responses after serious events, which undermined trust for some relatives.

Dining and environmental services show mixed performance. Positive remarks about cleanliness and pleasant common areas coexist with critiques of inconsistent meal quality and food-handling practices. Some reviewers raised sanitation and pest-control concerns in resident sleeping areas and flagged the need for stronger housekeeping practices in parts of the facility.

For prospective residents and families, the pattern suggests Ridgecrest can offer a warm, community-oriented setting with strong relationships between staff and residents and successful outcomes for some short-term rehab stays. However, evaluate clinical oversight, medication processes, and nighttime staffing during a tour; ask for recent staffing ratios, clinical records-review practices, pest-control measures, and examples of how the facility follows up on family concerns. Those factors appear to be the primary drivers of the divergent experiences documented by families.

    About Ridgecrest Community Care Center

Ridgecrest Community Care Center is a non-profit senior community in Louisiana that serves about 103 residents each day in a building with 112 certified beds, and it's run by Commcare Management Corporation since July 2018, with leaders like George Gardner, Mary Hudson, Alec Lundberg, and James Tucker managing different parts of the facility over the years. Residents here can get skilled nursing care around the clock, including help after surgery, illness, or hospitalization, and there's support for people needing long-term care, memory care, dementia and Alzheimer's care, short-term rehabilitation, palliative and hospice care, and a variety of different therapies like physical, speech, and occupational. Families and residents can join councils to talk about concerns and help improve things, and there's a steady focus on person-centered care and smooth transitions, which helps people feel at home and in control of their choices, and that's especially important when people need extra help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and taking medicines. The facility offers a broad mix of activities including arts, games, fitness, resident-led programs, spiritual reflection, movies, concerts, and trips outside, giving residents different ways to stay active and connected. Staff provide move-in help, family support services, housekeeping, laundry, and scheduled transportation and parking, and the amenities include a movie theater, activity room, arts room, game room, wellness centers, chapel, garden, outdoor programs, a library, and even a salon and cafes, which gives people spaces to gather and enjoy their day. Dining features a professional chef, allergy-sensitive and restaurant-style meals, a community dining room, and residents can choose table service with their meals. Comfort is a focus, so rooms are furnished, have private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and there are spacious living areas, well-kept outdoor spaces, and daily activities all planned by the care team. The medical side is strong, with pain management, wound care, podiatry and dental care, perceptual retraining, rehabilitation in a modern gym, and electronic charting for safety, with 3.75 nurse hours for each resident each day and a 37.5% nurse turnover, which means some staffing changes happen but there's still a dedicated team on hand. Ridgecrest takes Medicare and Medicaid, and it's part of a larger non-profit network, supporting not just care but also education on health and community engagement with volunteers. Over the years, Ridgecrest has earned awards like the Bronze National Quality Award and a 4-star rating in short-stay measures, but there've also been state and federal inspection reports showing up to 17 deficiencies in some years, with recent problems found in keeping drugs and biologicals labeled and stored right, infection control, and making sure bed rails are safe-so families should keep those inspection histories in mind when considering the center. Ridgecrest keeps trying to strike a balance between comfort, healthcare, and keeping residents active in a safe place, and while it's not perfect, the facility does offer a wide range of senior services, person-centered support, and activities that can help seniors maintain their dignity and quality of life.
