    Warm attentive loving non-corporate care

I've had my grandmother here since 2019 and have been very pleased - the owners are thoughtful and hands-on, Victoria and the attentive, kind staff are always responsive, and the house manager made onboarding easy. The home is spotlessly clean, warm and rural, with delicious meals (her appetite and weight improved), engaging activities, an in-house nurse, birthday celebrations, and regular family updates that give me peace of mind. I highly recommend this loving, non-corporate, personal environment for anyone seeking compassionate, competent care.

    Summary of reviews

Kenwood Care Pine Hill is consistently described as a small, family-run assisted living environment with strong owner involvement and a pronounced emphasis on individualized, compassionate care. Reviewers emphasize the personal touch from owners and staff, steady long-term staffing, and a home-like culture that supports resident comfort and emotional wellbeing. The facility’s size and non-corporate structure are presented as strengths for relationship-building and continuity of care.

Care quality and staffing are recurring strengths in the feedback. Families note attentive caregivers, an in-house nurse, clear communication, and ritualized personal attention (for example, birthday celebrations and regular updates). Several families attribute observable clinical improvements — such as increased appetite and weight gain — to the care and meals provided. Staff names and managers (for example, Victoria and the house manager) are frequently singled out for responsive coordination and hands-on oversight, which suggests strong local leadership and familiarity with residents’ needs.

Dining and activities receive positive mention: meals are characterized as appetizing with appealing aromas and an observable effect on resident appetite, while activities are described as engaging and socially supportive. The programmatic elements appear oriented toward maintaining a domestic routine and social connection rather than large-scale recreational offerings; celebratory events and small-group engagement are highlighted.

Facilities and setting are described as clean, well maintained, and pleasantly scented, set in a rural, scenic location that many families find peaceful and restorative. The small, non-corporate footprint contributes to a sense of home rather than an institutional feel. At the same time, that same small-scale model implies operational constraints: limited on-site access to specialized medical or rehabilitation services, fewer large-facility amenities, and potential staffing coverage challenges during absences or peak demand. The rural location, while appealing to many, can also limit access to external specialists and transportation options.

Management patterns point to strong owner involvement, clear admission/onboarding processes, and proactive family communication. The facility’s strengths favor residents seeking personalized attention in a quieter, home-like setting. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against the likely trade-offs of a smaller rural facility — namely, limited specialty clinical services and fewer large-scale amenities — and verify whether the facility’s scope of care matches anticipated future needs.

    About Kenwood Care Pine Hill

Kenwood Care Pine Hill sits back on 1.6 acres in Laurel, Maryland, surrounded by tall trees and nature, and people who live here say you can feel how calm and quiet it is right away, and with it being set back from the road, there's privacy and a peaceful feel you don't get everywhere. The place has been family-owned and operated for over 25 years, and that personal touch comes through, as the house has up to sixteen residents and about six live-in caregivers, so that resident-to-caregiver ratio is about 2.5 to 1, which means people get help when they need it, not hours later, and really, it's always someone you know who's helping. There's wheelchair access from the parking lot and throughout the entrance, and you'll see the place is ADA-compliant, and with ramps, wide doors, sturdy railings, and safety features like a sprinkler system, so people with mobility challenges or cognitive difficulties can get around safely. Pine Hill focuses on both assisted living and memory care, so they've made sure to have top-rated specialists in Alzheimer's and dementia, and they pay close attention to needs as they change-people who come here can age in place, including those who might eventually need hospice care, and they work with outside providers for that comfort and continuity of care. Folks get help with bathing, dressing, medication, meals, walking wheelchair assistance, diabetic care, incontinence, and if they need extra care, there's an in-house nurse and house manager Zeny to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Rooms here are spacious, clean, and fully furnished, and you can smell food cooking, since meals are prepared right in the home, with options for dietary needs like no sugar, low, or no sodium, and there's a dining room for family-style meals, plus frequent birthday celebrations, BBQs, holiday parties, and even guitar and singing sessions, so people have things to do beyond just sitting and watching TV.

Pine Hill has a strong program of social, educational, and recreational activities, including fitness sessions, games, Monday and Wednesday morning activities, karaoke, devotional times, and outings, and a range of visiting professionals offer services like massage therapy, podiatry, haircuts, and more, all managed through a broad network, and doctors visit regularly and give good reports on resident health, so most families feel reassured about their loved one's well-being. The home uses a fixed rate fee system, with no extra service charges or entrance fees, and it accepts long-term care insurance as a payment option. Families get regular updates, and the environment is home-like and warm, and residents can watch TV, use the fast Wi-Fi, or relax on one of several outdoor patios. Laundry, dry cleaning, housekeeping, and general maintenance are all included, and the building stays well maintained and clean, so even doctors comment on it. They keep a secure environment for memory care residents, with locked outside living spaces and easy-to-navigate indoor common areas, and when residents want to get out, they have transportation and help to get to appointments or outings. There are more locations run by Kenwood Care in Howard County, like Dayton and Fulton, but Pine Hill in Laurel stays known for its high staff-to-resident ratio, tranquil setting, and strong focus on both assisted living and memory care-you'll find caregivers like Floyd and Carla who get mentioned by name because people remember how caring and consistent they are. With accommodations for many levels of care, Pine Hill offers help with medication management and daily living, routine health and wellness activities, a salon and barbershop, and community areas like a fitness center, activity room, and TV lounge. You can see six photos online if you want a better feel, but people mention usually that there's always laughter, frequent family visits, and that everyone, including the staff, treats each other like an extended family.
