    Warm attentive staff welcoming home

I chose Locust Lodge for my mom and I'm pleased with the decision. The staff - especially manager Karen - are warm, attentive and funny. The home-like, well-decorated place is clean and spacious with lovely porches, sliding doors and a large yard. Meals are fresh and home-cooked, and there are fun activities, crafts and live music. Overall a welcoming, caring environment I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Locust Lodge presents as a small, residential-style assisted living with a pronounced emphasis on a home-like environment and outdoor amenities. Positive impressions center on staff warmth and direct caregiving: caregivers are frequently described as attentive, friendly, and personable, and many families point to a welcoming, social atmosphere with active programming such as crafts and live singing. The facility's outdoor spaces — porches, yard, and sliding-glass-door access — are repeatedly noted as well kept and pleasant, and several rooms offer ground-floor placement with private bathrooms. Dining is often characterized as home-cooked and fresh, and the facility offers relatively affordable pricing compared with higher-end alternatives.

Operationally, the facility appears to have some variability. Staffing levels and consistency are an area of concern that can affect day-to-day responsiveness; prospective residents should confirm current staffing ratios and peak-period coverage. Accessibility within some rooms and bathrooms is a recurring issue: steps and thresholds can create barriers for those with limited mobility. There are also security and wandering-prevention limitations associated with porch and exterior door controls, which affects suitability for residents with significant cognitive impairment or active wandering risk; families seeking memory-care–level supports may find the environment insufficiently specialized.

Facility upkeep yields mixed impressions: the exterior and communal spaces are frequently praised, but there are mentions of inconsistent interior maintenance and room-use practices (for example, rooms being repurposed for storage), so expectations about individual unit condition should be managed. Special-diet accommodations (for example, gluten-free needs) may require family involvement to ensure consistent implementation. Administrative and management practices show both strengths and weaknesses: management is described as approachable and helpful in admissions and holds in many instances, but there are notable administrative shortcomings around payroll, paystubs, and communication that have led to serious family concerns in isolated cases.

For families evaluating Locust Lodge, recommended next steps are: tour multiple individual rooms to assess accessibility and interior condition; ask about current staffing levels and on-shift coverage for evenings and weekends; review security procedures and wandering-prevention measures if cognitive impairment is a consideration; clarify processes for special-diet requests and meal accommodations; and discuss administrative policies for billing, payroll issues (if applicable), and dispute resolution. Overall, Locust Lodge offers a warm, community-oriented setting with strong outdoor amenities and a home-style approach to care, but prospective residents should verify operational details to ensure the facility matches their clinical and administrative needs.
