    Immaculate facility, excellent staff, amenities

I toured with my dad and was very impressed - a beautiful, immaculate facility with spacious, well-decorated rooms and endless amenities (pool, gym, golf simulator, bistro). The staff were warm, professional and highly accommodating, meals were excellent, and the transition support made the move easy; I'd definitely recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The Willows presents as a newer, well‑maintained retirement community with a resort-like aesthetic and a broad set of on-site amenities. Across reviews, families and prospective residents consistently point to bright, tastefully decorated common areas, clean move-in–ready residences, and extensive recreational resources such as an indoor pool, fitness center, movie theater, golf simulator and outdoor seating. The community offers multiple levels of care and a variety of housing types—independent cottages, assisted living, and a memory-care neighborhood—along with conveniences such as attached indoor parking, a shuttle service, and in-unit kitchens and laundry in many units.

Staff and care are frequently described as a major strength. Reviewers commonly praise friendly, compassionate, and dedicated employees; many describe smooth transition and move‑in support, responsive assistance from nurses and aides, and staff members who go beyond basic expectations to provide guidance and comfort. Families report that the community provides a family-focused atmosphere and attentive onboarding processes that ease relocation stress. Memory care and assisted-living interactions are often characterized as patient and kind, and several individual staff members were singled out for exemplary support.

Dining and programming are important and mixed areas. The Willows operates an on-site Bistro and chef-driven dining program that many residents enjoy; reviewers note attractive presentation, generous portions, and opportunities to dine in both formal and casual settings. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent meal quality, service speed, and menu variety. Specific issues raised include limited vegetarian and plant‑based options, portion and timing inconsistencies (for example, dessert service and large, difficult-to-eat sandwich preparations), and occasional declines in food variety or temperature. Reviewers recommend sampling meals during a visit and discussing special-diet accommodations in advance.

Activities and social life are described positively overall. The community offers an active calendar of educational and recreational programs—pickleball, bocce, arts and crafts, musical events, and organized outings—that many residents find engaging and home-like. The facility design emphasizes socialization through multiple communal spaces and walkable grounds, and reviewers frequently report happy, engaged residents and plentiful opportunities for participation.

Operational and management patterns that prospective residents should probe further include staffing continuity, communication processes, and apartment accessibility. Several reviewers raised concerns about high turnover in senior staff and occasional administrative issues, which can affect institutional knowledge and consistency of service. Front-desk and phone responsiveness, package-handling logistics, and occasional rushed or inconsistent tour experiences were also noted. On the apartment level, multiple comments referenced deficiencies in task lighting, smaller or inadequate refrigerators, low toilet heights, and heavy doors that create accessibility challenges for residents using walkers or other mobility aids. Some reviewers also expressed concerns about landscaping practices (pesticide choices) near natural areas.

Cost and value perception vary. The Willows is described as higher-cost but positioned as bundled value with many amenities; some families consider it worth the price, while others caution that perceived value can depend on dining expectations, private-aide needs, and how much care is required. Reviewers recommend that prospective residents and families: tour during a mealtime, review appliance and accessibility specifications for the specific unit, ask about vegetarian/special-diet accommodations, inquire about staffing ratios and leadership turnover, clarify any additional private-care or grooming costs, and confirm package and front-desk procedures. Overall, the community receives consistent praise for its physical environment, breadth of amenities, and the warmth of many staff members, tempered by operational items to verify during the decision process.

    About The Willows - Medway

The Willows Retirement Community - SALMON Health and Retirement sits on a big 57-acre campus next to the Charles River in Medway, Massachusetts, where folks can choose between independent living, assisted living, Tapestry Memory Care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and even hospice when needed, which is handy because some need more help as they go on. This place is known for its friendly and welcoming spirit, and the staff seem to help folks settle in, offering apartments or cottages with things like fully equipped kitchens, washers, dryers, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, walk-in closets, and private or shared spaces, depending on what a person wants or needs, and most homes are easy to get around in, so it's not hard to stay safe and comfortable.

People don't have to worry about the housework or laundry because services cover cleaning, laundry, meals, and move-in help, so folks have more time to join activities or just sit and relax. The on-site dining is led by chefs using fresh, local food, with meals served all day in either Riverview on the Charles or another restaurant, and they do their best with allergy-friendly and diabetes-friendly dishes, so nearly everyone can find something that works. The Willows runs things like a Personalized Exercise Program (PEP), fitness room, indoor pool, hot tub, cold plunge, art studio, community theater, resident garden club, and even an arcade and movie cinema, which means people never have to look far for something to do, plus clubs, libraries, music rooms, pickleball, walking paths, and outdoor gardens fit many hobbies.

Nurses, caregivers, and recreation staff help with medication, bathing, dressing, therapy appointments, memory support for folks with Alzheimer's, and there's always a 24-hour call system for safety and peace of mind, so family doesn't have to worry too much. The Willows at Medway is part of Salmon Health and Retirement, which has focused on helping seniors since 1995, and people like the strong sense of community, scoring the place a 7.8 out of 10 on reviews-good, but not perfect. There's scheduled transportation for shopping and trips, banking on-site, salon, spa, and healthcare visits like dental and podiatry, so most everyday needs are covered without leaving the property.

The Willows feels lively, with resident-led programs, a small-town feel, chances to get outside, and options to keep busy or just spend time with friends. Prices start at about $6,500 for independent living and $8,270 for assisted living, and home care, memory care, and skilled nursing are available, so people can usually stay if their needs change. Different layouts and floor plans such as Spruce, Sycamore, Willows, Hawthorne, and Juniper let residents pick what fits best, whether it's a cottage with a garage or an apartment. The Willows aims to help seniors live with privacy, community, support, and freedom, whether folks want lots of activity or a quieter setting, and the health services, transportation, and personalized care try to make daily life a little easier as people age.
