    Therapists great, overall care neglectful

My relative stayed at Regency of Canton - the building and therapy gym are clean and attractive, and PT/OT and a few nurses/CNAs were excellent and compassionate. But hands-on care was inconsistent and often neglectful: long call-light waits, residents left in urine/feces, missed/late or lost medications, poor diabetic/heart diets, and inadequate wound care that contributed to falls and rehospitalizations. Evenings/nights and some front-desk staff were rude or absent, safety measures were lacking, and administration was unresponsive to complaints. I appreciate the therapists and several outstanding staff, but overall I would not trust them with a high-risk loved one given the safety, medication and care failures.

    About Regency At Canton

Regency At Canton sits over on Geddes Road in Canton, Michigan, and you'll see right away how the wide, welcoming lobby with its big dual-sided fireplace and soft chairs works as a spot for folks and visitors to sit and gather, whether it's a cold morning or a slow afternoon, while the two enclosed courtyards gave a quiet place to stroll or get fresh air. There's room here for people needing different kinds of care, from independent living with some help nearby, to memory care for folks facing Alzheimer's or dementia, and even short-term rehab or long-term stays, and that means care staff stay on site all day and night, and people get help when they need it, whether that's meals, laundry, changing clothes, or bathing, and each room, whether private or part of a shared suite, comes with a flat-screen TV, private telephone, and its own heating and cooling that the resident can set how they want. There's a library with a warm fireplace and an internet café where you can grab a book or meet with a neighbor, and the big activities room and dedicated activities department host regular events and therapy sessions to keep minds and bodies active, so you'll always see something going on. Folks can have meals together in social dining rooms or choose a private dining space for family celebrations, and cooks prepare healthy food around the clock in the 24-hour culinary center, offering menu choices that fit personal tastes or dietary needs, and the kitchen meets standards, though there has been at least one noted issue connected to food procurement and handling. Regency at Canton gives options for relaxation, too, from a whirlpool tub and spa to a rehabilitation gym that gets used for therapy and fitness. It's generally a clean, homey-feeling place with modern amenities, steady housekeeping, prepared meal programs making up one to two daily meals, and different laundry options. Facility staff are described as professional and compassionate, providing personalized care, and they mainly come from Ciena Healthcare, which has managed this building since 2011. Regency at Canton has 141 certified beds, with an average census of 131 residents most days, and it covers a range of care types, from nursing and rehab to hospice, though some families should be aware of past inspection reports, which list 41 deficiencies, including resident rights issues such as not always keeping residents and families informed about key changes, and a few infection control problems. Nurse turnover here is a bit better than Michigan's average, but the nurse staffing ratio-about 3.58 hours per resident per day-lands somewhat below the state standard. The building complies with federal civil rights laws and offers all its modern conveniences and care options to anyone, regardless of background. So, folks who move here get a full menu of services, modern amenities, a variety of activities, and both independent and assisted living choices, always with someone nearby to help, and with private or semi-private rooms that can meet different budgets or needs.
