    About Birchwood Retreat

Birchwood Retreat sits in a quiet residential neighborhood in Chelsea, Michigan, on about an acre and a half of land with trees, gardening spaces, and peaceful walking paths so everyone has space for a stroll outdoors or a little gardening if that's what they like, and it's pretty close to Chelsea Community Hospital and a few miles from I-94 too, so getting to local attractions, activities, and events isn't much trouble. The facility has six private bedrooms, and each has blinds, a flat-screen TV, and a big closet, plus there are a few large bathrooms-including one with a wheelchair-accessible tub and another with a therapeutic walk-in jetted tub-so folks who need help getting in and out of the bath or shower can do so more easily, and all bathrooms have handicap-friendly features like tendon showers and big sinks. Residents can choose among studio, single bedroom, and communal living options depending on their needs and comfort and everyone has use of a big living room with a cathedral ceiling, a sunroom with plenty of daylight, and shared large bathrooms. Meals are chef-prepared using good ingredients with a variety of food like chicken, shrimp, fish, and beef, and there's always a dietitian to help plan special dietary menus, plus three meals every day and a snack shop for anyone who gets hungry later, and residents can use private dining for family visits. There's a chapel for spiritual needs, a beauty and barber shop, fitness and game rooms, available parking, and high-speed internet and computer access, so there's a bit of something for everyone. Birchwood Retreat has care services such as help moving around, bathing, dressing, medication management, and personalized care plans depending on each person's situation-there's a licensed nurse on-call and staff trained in speech therapy, surgery recovery, memory and respite care, and 24-hour emergency response, and it's open every day of the week. The staff speak English and work to create close bonds with residents, and the small size of only six assisted living units means people tend to get to know one another. Birchwood Retreat handles social, educational, and recreational activities, and works on keeping everyone's days full with structured programs meant to make life interesting and keep folks active. The facility is classified as an Adult Foster Home and is run as a for-profit organization, offering both private pay and private insurance options for payment, and it provides privacy in a home-like space with care offered around the clock.
