    Warm professional compassionate memory care

I'm very grateful for the attentive, professional and loving staff-Angie, Deanna and Lexi often went above and beyond. The home-like memory care, 24-hour support, delicious homemade meals and beautifully kept grounds with flowers and horses made my loved one feel safe and part of a family. Management stayed transparent and coordinated closely with us; the facility is clean, compassionate and welcoming. Overall I highly recommend this warm, caring place, with only minor room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews portray Tanglewood Assisted Living as a small, home-style facility with a strong emphasis on personalized, resident-centered care. Positive comments concentrate on a warm, family-like atmosphere: staff are repeatedly described as compassionate, attentive, and willing to go beyond routine duties to support residents and families. Several reviewers highlighted a memory-care focus and secure environment, which aligns with other observations of individualized attention, consistent 24-hour care, and staff involvement in therapeutic activities.

Dining and daily living services are frequently praised. Reviewers describe fresh, home-cooked meals, attention to dietary accommodations, and help with grooming and outings. Families note that mealtimes are treated as social opportunities and that staff responsiveness to nutritional needs is a strength. Relatedly, the facility’s small scale and personalized approach appear to support flexible accommodations such as special meals, hair styling, and assistance selecting outfits for activities.

Activity programming and the physical setting are notable assets. The property, gardens, overlook, and presence of animals (including horses) are cited as meaningful quality-of-life contributors. Activities such as singing, animal interaction, outdoor time, and exercise-therapy involvement are presented as regular features that support social engagement and emotional well-being. Cleanliness and common-area presentation are consistently mentioned as strong points.

Management and family coordination receive mixed but generally positive remarks. Many families describe management as approachable, transparent, and invested in residents’ well-being; others single out individual staff members for exceptional coordination during transitions or bereavement. That said, a small number of reviews raise concerns about inconsistency in oversight and communication tone, suggesting variability in how management and staff interact with certain families.

A minority of reviews describe troubling individual experiences that point to operational weaknesses rather than pervasive facility characteristics. These concerns—summarized here at the trait level—include intermittent lapses in staff responsiveness or conduct, occasional gaps in personal-care responsiveness, and situations where the facility proved a poor fit for a resident’s specific needs. Prospective families should weigh the facility’s many strengths against this potential for variability and ask targeted questions about staffing levels, personal-care protocols, and how the team handles escalation or family concerns during a visit or intake conversation.

Overall, Tanglewood presents as a small, well-maintained assisted-living option with substantial strengths in compassionate caregiving, dining, activities, and environment. Those strengths are tempered by isolated but serious concerns about consistency in staff conduct and management oversight; an in-person visit focusing on care routines, responsiveness, and communication practices is advisable for families considering placement.

    About Tanglewood Assisted Living

Tanglewood Assisted Living sits on twenty acres of quiet land in Fenton, Michigan, where horses graze in the pastures and you can watch sunsets from the porch or sit in Adirondack chairs out on the west lawn, and there's a deck that looks right over the horses, which people seem to like, especially with the golf cart trails and gardens and bird feeders nearby. The home's spacious, all one level, with big three-panel windows, double beds, built-in closets, and plenty of room for walkers or wheelchairs, since everything's ADA accessible and there are ramps at all the doors, plus handrails and grab bars along all the halls, which help with falls. Residents join activities for fun, learning, and movement every day, and the staff, who are trained and certified in first aid, CPR, and safety, helps everyone keep their independence, whether it's with medication reminders, moving about, or just making life comfortable.

People with memory loss, including Alzheimer's or dementia, have their own care plans and programs for mind engagement, and there's always someone on hand, day or night, because the place has 24-hour staffing and cameras. The home's food safety and water quality get checked often, and the kitchen passes all inspections, and when the weather acts up, a big generator keeps things running, so nobody's left in the dark. Residents and visitors can walk out to the barn, see Ty, the small horse, or Liam, the chestnut thoroughbred, and even the barn's got a tack room visitors like seeing. The beauty shop, large dining rooms with tables looking out at pastures or autumn trees, a music room, a TV room with musicals, and a four-season room for family gatherings, all give people everyday ways to relax or meet with others.

Fall prevention's handled with things like low beds, pads, a good staff-to-resident ratio, monitors, and alarms on all outside doors that help prevent wandering or any trouble, with extra fire protections like a big water tank for sprinklers, emergency lights, alarm pull stations, and smoke detectors in every living space. The owners, John and Gail Strayer, keep things running with help from state and county health inspectors, and the place is fully licensed as an adult foster care facility, so seniors can stay long-term whether they need help with daily routines, medicine, diabetes care, incontinence care, or just want to enjoy the outdoors or look out at horses and changing seasons.
