    About Great Lakes Christian Homes

Great Lakes Christian Homes sits in the Greater Lansing area and has been run by the Great Lakes Christian Homes Nonprofit Housing Corporation for quite a while, where grown-ups who are 55 and older find many different ways to live, whether it's in a villa home, a condo, a two-bedroom apartment, a three-bedroom, a single room, or in congregate living, and the place has special areas and named programs set up to fit what people need as they get older, so folks who want independent living can have condo living, and others who need more help have assisted living or even memory care and nursing care, and for those who struggle with Alzheimer's, there's that focus, too, all within the same community. Residents get regular meals in the dining hall made for them, so they don't have to cook, and if they need help getting dressed, bathing, or keeping up with medication, staff are there for that, and there's always someone on call with the 24-hour system and a 12 to 16 hour nursing service to make sure everyone's alright, plus they can help with moving from the bed to a wheelchair or checking insulin levels for those keeping an eye on diabetes. The place tries to keep people's lives active, too, with game nights, daily scheduled activities, and community events, and sometimes there'll be guest speakers or performers stopping by, and Spartans fans can even get to enjoy Michigan State University games. There are indoor spaces to meet and talk, a chapel, a library, a fitness and wellness center, and even a theater, plus if someone likes digging in the dirt or growing their own food, the resident gardens are there for that, and people tend to come together and share a lot in those spaces. The staff can also set up extra help at home by working with a home healthcare provider, so people who want to keep some independence can stay where they feel comfortable. The whole place, rooted in Christian values, has a state license and keeps careful records of programs, grants, staff, and the money side of things with Form 990 reports, and even though there was an error giving more details about some of the parts, the basics are clear. If anyone wants, there's a virtual tour to see how the spaces are set up and get a feel for the day-to-day, and the focus always stays on giving enough options, support, and care to fit each resident's changing needs without any claim that one style fits every person.
