    Wonderful family owned memory care

I had a very positive experience at this family-owned, modern memory-care community - the facility is beautiful, clean and convenient, the Terra program and leadership (Brandon and Lauren/Director Brandon Ackerman) are attentive and well-trained, staff go above and beyond, meals are made from scratch with quick, personalized adjustments, and communication with our family was excellent; I'm grateful and would highly recommend them, with only a couple minor areas for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The reviews present French Manor Terra as a small to mid-sized, family-owned memory-care community with consistently positive feedback on day-to-day care, facility condition, and leadership. Reviewers emphasize a supportive, respectful culture among staff and administration, and identify the community's memory-care program as a clear area of focus and strength.

Care quality and staff: Care is described as individualized and compassionate, with staff characterized as attentive, patient, and respectful. Multiple comments highlight caregivers as well trained and knowledgeable, and families describe transitions into memory care as smooth. The presence of engaged on-site leadership and accessible administrators contributes to perceptions of stability and responsiveness. The combination of family-style care and visible leadership suggests the facility emphasizes staff continuity and personal relationships between caregivers, residents, and families.

Dining and resident accommodations: Dining receives consistent praise for made-from-scratch meals and for responsiveness to individual dietary needs, including quick customizations when requested. Facility descriptions indicate a modern, clean, and comfortable environment; reviewers cite a well-maintained interior and positive aesthetics. The location is noted as convenient, which may be relevant for family visitation and community access.

Activities and programming: Reviews focus heavily on clinical care, dining, and staff attributes; there is relatively little specific commentary about the breadth or variety of activities and programming. Prospective residents and families who prioritize an extensive activities calendar or specialized social programming may want to request current schedules and examples during a tour.

Management and notable patterns: The community is presented as family owned and operated, with named ownership and strong praise for specific leaders. This governance model appears to produce hands-on management and rapid responsiveness but also indicates some operational dependence on key individuals. One operational pattern to anticipate is limited immediate availability—several comments note a lack of move-in openings, suggesting demand can exceed capacity.

Recommendation points: French Manor Terra projects strengths in memory-care specialization, personalized caregiving, and meal quality, supported by engaged leadership and a well-maintained facility. Visitors should verify current bed availability, ask about succession planning or leadership backups, and obtain a detailed activities/program schedule to ensure the community’s social offerings match the prospective resident’s interests and needs.

    About French Manor Terra

French Manor Terra sits over on Terra Road in Traverse City and has a map to help you find the place, and once you find it, you can take a tour, which can be nice if you're thinking about moving in because you can see all the things they have, and you might notice they offer care homes for folks 55 and over, so whether you want independent living, assisted living, or memory care, they've got those and they even have 15 Assisted Living Units and 15 Memory Care Units, which is good for people who need different levels of help, but at the same time they offer respite care, home care, nursing care, and even continuing care for those who need it, so there's quite a variety. It's a retirement community, and what stands out is how they help with move-in to make that part less stressful, and you can look for activities like bingo, gentle yoga, crafts, and music performances because they want everyone to stay active. Some folks run their own groups, and there are outings, movie nights, and even a garden you can walk around, and that makes the place feel lively without being overwhelming.

The building itself is safe because they keep a 24-hour call system in every room and the place is built to be easy to use, even for people in wheelchairs, and there's on-call nursing and registered nurses doing regular wellness checks, which can help you feel safe. The rooms are private suites with full closets and bathrooms, furnished, with cable, phone, wireless internet, and every room has the emergency call system, and that's convenient, especially if you need help. They do accommodate special diets and the food is home-cooked and made fresh every day, and snacks too, so you don't have to worry about your meals. The staff is kind and well-trained, and the whole community feels family-like and warm, and there's companionship because you're always around people, but also privacy if that's what you want-they try to keep both. For folks who need help with bathing, dressing, getting around, or meds, the staff assists any time, day or night, and they'll even coordinate care with your own healthcare team.

They offer foot care clinics and have an in-house barber and beauty salon, so you can keep up with grooming without leaving the community, and there's transportation for doctor's visits and errands, which is handy. The grounds are nicely landscaped, so you can spend time outside if you want. There's always something going on, from arts and crafts to social events, and laundry and housekeeping are included, so daily chores are taken care of, and they've got an emergency alert system in place throughout the community in case you need it. The Operations Manager is Mr. Rusty Ackerman, and French Manor Terra has a Better Business Bureau A+ rating. With six locally owned communities in Traverse City, they keep things local, focusing on quality care that's personal and honest, and they make it as easy as possible for folks who need both privacy and company. People find peace of mind here because safety, comfort, and friendly faces make the days easier, and that's what matters for many in their later years.
