    Spotless welcoming community, compassionate staff

I'm pleased with how spotless and welcoming the community feels - the grounds and apartments are well cared for and comfortable. The staff (Judy, Allison, Crystal and others) are attentive and compassionate, activities are engaging, dining is excellent, and there's a real sense of safety and camaraderie. I feel at home here and would recommend it to friends and family.

    Summary of reviews

Tradition is consistently described as a community with a strong social culture, extensive activities, and a generally welcoming staff. Positive accounts emphasize compassionate, attentive caregivers, an active activities department that offers outings and intergenerational events, and a family‑like atmosphere that many residents and families find reassuring. Apartments are frequently praised for being spacious, bright, and well‑laid‑out, with private balconies or patios and in‑unit washer/dryer units. The property’s grounds, common areas, and courtyard are noted as well maintained, and aging‑in‑place options (assisted‑living continuity, on‑site medical calls, and medication management services) are available, which contributes to residents’ sense of security.

Dining is a central strength for a large number of reviewers: an on‑site chef, restaurant‑style dining room, and flexible meal plans are commonly highlighted, along with the staff’s ability to accommodate dietary needs. At the same time, there is a clear pattern of variability in dining performance. Several accounts describe an excellent culinary program and fine‑dining experience, while other accounts describe declines in food quality or service interruptions following personnel changes. Prospective residents should verify current kitchen staffing and sample meals during tours if dining quality is a primary consideration.

Staff and care quality generate mixed but predominantly positive impressions. Many reviewers single out caring nursing and concierge staff, timely assistance after incidents, and staff who go above and beyond during transitions or crises. However, there are recurring operational concerns: reports of high staff turnover, episodic communication lapses with families, and language or accent barriers that can impede clear exchanges. A smaller set of accounts raise clinical‑safety issues—examples suggest gaps in medication handling and inconsistent adherence to clinical procedures. Those findings indicate it is prudent to ask about current staffing stability, medication‑safety protocols, and transfer/assistance policies during a visit.

Operational and administrative patterns also warrant careful inquiry. Multiple reviewers described inconsistent maintenance responsiveness and uneven housekeeping standards—some apartments and common areas are described as spotless while other accounts cite sanitation concerns and appliance repair delays. Billing and invoicing practices are another recurring theme: families mention confusing statements, unexpected charges, and at least one instance of unpaid vendor invoices. Management transitions and a perceived emphasis on occupancy or financial targets have created uncertainty for some residents and families; conversely, other reviewers praise specific managers and the community’s responsiveness. Parking and certain accessibility routes (for example, lobby‑to‑garage access) are noted as limitations in some units.

Recommendation: Tradition offers many of the elements families seek in independent and continuing‑care settings—strong social programming, attractive apartments, and robust dining—paired with on‑site clinical and personal services that support aging in place. Because the reviews reveal variability in dining, maintenance, communication, and clinical processes, prospective residents should (1) tour during a meal service and ask about current kitchen leadership, (2) request written information about medication‑safety and staffing ratios, (3) clarify billing items and penalty/charge policies, and (4) test maintenance response expectations and accessibility for the specific unit under consideration. These targeted questions will help determine whether the community’s current operational performance aligns with a family’s priorities.

    About Tradition

Tradition sits in a quiet neighborhood at 8500 Tessman Farm Rd N, Brooklyn Park, MN, and offers both independent and assisted living for people aged 55 and better, which means folks can stay active and social but also get help when they need it, whether it's with bathing, dressing, or managing medicine. Tradition takes different ways to pay, like private pay, insurance, social security, veteran's benefits, and has fees for care levels and a one-time community fee, plus a fee for a second person in an apartment if needed. You can find all sorts of rooms here, including studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and semi-private layouts-some of them even have those cherry cabinets and unique "designer" touches people talk about, and the place has a furnished feel with room amenities like telephones and furnishings included.

Residents get meals made from scratch every day, including vegetarian choices, with breakfast served buffet style and lunch and dinner restaurant-style, and there are spaces like a dining room, common rooms for sitting with friends, and both indoor and outdoor areas, walking paths, and a garden for fresh air. Staff are on hand 24 hours a day, with an emergency alert and call system, so help is always close by, especially for folks with special needs like diabetes or dementia, and they help with everything from insulin checks to incontinence care and non-ambulatory support, as well as care for people in hospice. Housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning lighten the load, and transportation's available, whether you want the complimentary ride or one for a fee, plus it's near the bus line and not far from grocery stores, coffee shops, pharmacies, gas stations, and hospitals like Maple Grove Hospital, which is handy.

Tradition has a busy calendar, with cards, table games, arts and crafts, social hours three times a week, movie and theater nights, weekly outings, and even resident-run clubs, and those who need spiritual support can find devotional services on site or nearby. The place keeps a media center, arts room, fitness center, barber/salon, and a beauty salon, and there's a community activities area so you don't have to feel cooped up. Residents can smoke, but only outside. There are different floor plans and types for independent and assisted living, and Tradition supports aging in place, so as care needs change, folks don't need to move away from the friends and staff they've come to know. They also help veterans, and there's memory care for those with Alzheimer's and dementia. The staff handles therapies like occupational, physical, and speech, and they work with hospice agencies to keep residents comfortable. The Brooklyn Park Senior Housing program makes different living arrangements available, with Tradition being just one option among others in the area, like Brooks Landing and Creekside Gables. The community aims to be active and supportive, with plenty of chances to learn, make friends, and feel safe, all in a spot that's car-dependent, with a walk score of 40, but close to parks and scenic areas if you enjoy a bit of nature.
