    Beautiful new facility, excellent care

I stayed at Harmony Gardens for a short-term post-hospital stay and was impressed by the beautiful, brand-new facility, bright common areas, and many amenities. The staff - nurses, PT/OT, and social workers like Sarah Swenson - were genuinely caring, responsive, and went above and beyond; therapy was top-notch, meals and activities were very good, and I'd recommend it as a very solid choice.

    Summary of reviews

Harmony Gardens presents as a modern, well-appointed senior living campus with a strong reputation for compassionate front-line caregivers and robust therapy services. Many families described a bright, clean facility with ample natural light, private apartment options, a state-of-the-art therapy center, and a varied activities calendar that includes exercise classes, crafts, spiritual programming, outings, and evening movies. Several reviewers highlighted a supportive social work team and effective discharge coordination that facilitated post-acute recovery for returning residents.

Clinical care and staff interaction are frequently cited strengths. Reviewers praised attentive nursing and therapy teams, personalized care approaches, and staff members who take time to know residents. The facility’s rehabilitation and transitional-care capabilities are noted as particularly effective for short-term post-hospital stays. At the same time, there is a clear pattern of inconsistent day-to-day staffing: families reported occasions when staff availability did not match expectations, delays in responding to assistance calls, and variability in personal-care routines. These operational gaps were associated with lapses in basic care tasks and inconsistent continuity when staff turnover was high.

Dining and programming present a mixed picture. Many residents and families enjoy the regular menu, additional meal options, and frequent social programming, and some reviewers called out friendly dining staff and good-value offerings. Conversely, other families described variability between advertised meal presentations and daily service, and some found food quality inconsistent. Activities are robust in the general-population areas, but multiple reviewers specifically identified limited stimulation and fewer tailored offerings in the memory-care unit.

Management and communication experiences are polarized. Several reviewers praised clear, ongoing communication from staff and helpful responses to questions; others raised concerns about management tone, complaint resolution, and periods when social-work support or leadership visibility was reduced. There are also notes about inconsistent discharge-planning practices and billing concerns in isolated cases. Visitor experience is generally positive when staff are present and communicative, but a few reviewers described restricted access or reduced staff visibility in certain units that affected the quality of visits.

For prospective residents and families: the facility’s strengths are its modern campus, therapy capabilities, and many compassionate, skilled caregivers. Key due-diligence items are to confirm current staffing levels and turnover rates, observe memory-care programming in person, clarify how personal-care and incontinence support are scheduled and tracked, review meal-sample options, and ask about complaint-resolution processes and discharge-planning protocols. These focused questions will help determine whether the facility’s operational consistency aligns with your expectations for daily care and oversight.

    About Harmony Gardens Senior Living

Harmony Gardens Senior Living sits on seven acres right in Maplewood, near St. Paul, with two connected buildings offering many levels of care so a person can stay if their needs change, and it feels like a small neighborhood the way the outdoor walking paths wind around gardens, a courtyard, and the sun rooms and decks where people often meet for a chat or a game, and the rooms are spacious, well-kept, with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, some with washers and dryers close by, and there's always Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and cable TV throughout. The staff at Harmony Gardens try hard to be attentive and compassionate, working with respect for each resident's independence while providing help where it's needed, and the care options range from independent living for those who want to downsize and stay active, to assisted living with help on things like bathing and meals, to memory care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, where they've got special safety features and trained caregivers on staff for those needs. The community provides 24-hour skilled nursing in the Lyngblomsten Care Center for longer-term or short-term stays, including rehab after hospital visits, and there's daily help with medications, blood sugar checks for diabetes, physical therapy, and even Parkinson's and behavioral support services, and they allow people to "age in place" so you do not have to move again as your health changes.

Dining happens in a restaurant-style setting, sometimes with a professional chef making special or organic and allergy-friendly meals, and the activity calendar includes arts and crafts, education talks, fitness center classes, happy hours, movies, games, walking groups, and health programs, with lots of room to gather indoors or outside. Housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance are handled by staff, and there are extra touches like a beauty and barber shop, library, chapel for worship, computer access, parking, guest spaces, cable TV in rooms, and scheduled rides for trips or errands. There's a full security system, 24-hour staff on call, and features like grab bars and a sprinkler system for safety, plus they make the move-in process easier with personalized help and some waiting list guidance. Harmony Gardens calls itself a ministry of compassionate care, built on Christian values, and tries to preserve each person's dignity, offering family support and outreach programs along with amenities that help people stay engaged, like the billiards room and fitness area, fireside lounge, spa, and organized outings. Friends and families can keep up through their online presence, and the staff includes some multilingual caregivers for extra support. The place feels steady and well-run, with many options for seniors who need independent living, assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing, all under one roof, so you don't have to start over when your health shifts, and the grounds are well cared for, clean, and set up to make daily life comfortable and safe for folks as they age.
