Northfield Hospital & Clinics

Long Term Care Center - Northfield Hospital & Clinics had a 40-bed unit that helped seniors from the community who needed long-term care, rehabilitation, or nursing support and, while the facility closed in fall 2023 after facing financial issues, staff worked to help residents find new places to live. The center started back in 1963 as the H.O. Dilley Skilled Nursing Facility, thanks to a $250,000 gift from Minnie Dilley, and it stayed part of the city-run but self-sustaining Northfield Hospital & Clinics system, never using city money to build or run daily operations. Known for earning five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the facility offered many types of care, like 24-hour healthcare staffing, memory care for dementia or Alzheimer's, assisted living services, and respite care to give caregivers a break, and there were programs supporting mental health and medication management, as well as wound care, rehabilitation, hospice, and chemotherapy support, plus specialized programs in women's health, cancer care, sleep studies, and surgery. The rooms came furnished and had cable TV, kitchenettes, and telephones, so residents could feel more at home, while staff handled things like housekeeping and linens to help keep things simple, and residents also had access to WiFi throughout the building. Residents could use spaces like the dining room, beauty salon, gardens, and library, and join in daily community events or resident-led activities. The Northfield Hospital & Clinics campus, which remains, includes several clinics in other towns like Lakeville, Farmington, Lonsdale, Faribault, and Kenyon, plus centers for sleep, orthopedics, oncology, wound healing, women's health, pediatrics, birth, and more, providing a broad range of medical services for the area even after the long term care center itself closed.
