    Compassionate staff, poor management, inadequate

I'm well cared for here - compassionate staff, a safe environment, and overall a fantastic place I highly recommend after a horrible prior facility. My main gripe is the owners/management, who are terrible; my room feels like a lounge with no private bathroom, no running water and no window.

    Summary of reviews

The feedback presents a clear contrast between strengths in direct care and concerns about facility infrastructure and management. Positive impressions emphasize the quality of hands-on caregiving: staff are described as compassionate and attentive, residents are perceived as safe and well cared for, and families have provided strong recommendations. These elements suggest that day-to-day interactions between staff and residents are generally viewed favorably and that personal care practices are a relative strength.

There is limited commentary available on dining and activities in the provided feedback. No consistent statements about meal quality, menu variety, or organized programming appeared in the summaries, so prospective families should request current menus, activity schedules, and sample programming to evaluate those domains directly.

Facilities-related comments raise operational concerns. The summaries indicate problems with room configurations and basic amenities, including reports of living spaces lacking en-suite bathrooms, running water reliability issues, and limited natural light in some units. There is also mention of communal or lounge areas being used as sleeping quarters. Collectively, these items point to gaps in infrastructure and unit standards that could affect privacy, comfort, and routine hygiene services.

Management and ownership are another recurring theme. The feedback characterizes administrative responsiveness and leadership as problematic, which is linked in the summaries to how infrastructure and resident-space issues are being handled. Plumbing and maintenance problems, if present, amplify the impact of administrative shortcomings because timely remediation is important for resident well-being.

Notable patterns are the polarity of impressions: strong praise for frontline caregiving versus serious concerns about facilities and administration. For families considering this provider, recommended next steps include an in-person inspection of the specific room(s) under consideration, direct questions about en-suite bathroom availability and water/service reliability, review of maintenance and incident-response procedures, and discussion with leadership about how infrastructure issues are prioritized and resolved. Obtaining written confirmation of room features and a tour of dining and activity spaces will help reconcile the positive caregiving reports with the infrastructure and management concerns noted in the feedback.

    About Hillcrest Senior Living Inc

Hillcrest Senior Living Inc sits near the intersection of Broadway Ave NE and 3rd St NE in Red Lake Falls, MN, and offers a range of care programs, each with its own name and focus. The facility holds a license as an assisted living community with dementia care and connects with a nursing home, so seniors needing more help or skilled nursing can often stay within the same system. There are 28 licensed beds for both assisted living and dementia care, and the building saw recent upgrades to suites and community areas in June 2015. Suites come fully furnished, with choices between private and double rooms, and every resident has access to safety features like emergency alert systems, 24-hour supervision, and a call system.

The memory care community has special programs for those with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, offering a secure area to help prevent wandering and to give people peace of mind. Hillcrest supports independence while offering help with daily activities, medication management, and medical needs, including diabetes and incontinence care. Healthcare staff are around to cover nursing, rehabilitation, wound care, and coordination with doctors, and they help residents with bathing, dressing, and transfers.

Outside, raised flower beds, walking paths, and a landscaped courtyard give residents a chance to enjoy nature, and people can gather on benches or join group gardening. Inside, common spaces like a lounge with a fireplace, a spacious dining room with all-day dining options, and a community arts room keep things lively and social, and there's always something on the activity calendar, like exercise, games, music, movie nights, and devotional or offsite trips. Residents run some activities themselves, and staff organize others. There's a salon, housekeeping, and laundry-including dry cleaning-to make life easier.

The kitchen prepares meals on-site, making sure to cater to dietary needs like diabetic or allergy-sensitive meals, and staff offer help with eating, if needed. Transportation's arranged for medical appointments and outings, and rooms are wheelchair accessible with phones available. Pets are welcome as part of the community.

Hillcrest is inspected and licensed by Minnesota state and local agencies, with ongoing surveys to check quality and adherence to standards. The whole place is put together to feel like home, encourage socializing, support memory and independence for all residents, and make sure people have a safe, caring place to live.
