    Compassionate, clean facility with hospice

I entrusted my grandfather to this small, beautiful facility and was very pleased. The staff were compassionate, attentive, and coordinated closely with hospice, making end-of-life care warm and welcoming. Rooms have private attached bathrooms, the place is clean and odor-free, meals are good and dining staff attentive, and activities plus a front porch and nature path feel homely. I would recommend this as a strong choice for a loved one.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of New Harmony Care Center are mixed, with clear strengths alongside serious operational concerns. Positively, many accounts describe a pleasant location, well-maintained small facility spaces, and accessible outdoor features such as a front porch and a nature path. The dining program is frequently described as appetizing and varied, with attentive meal service. Recreational programming includes familiar activities (bingo, word games, trivia) that residents find engaging. Several families praised the facility's hospice coordination and end-of-life care, and some noted measurable improvements in residents' physical and emotional wellbeing under the center's care.

Staff performance is a major axis of divergence in reviewer experience. Numerous comments highlight compassionate, personable, and welcoming caregivers who create an upbeat atmosphere and treat residents like family. At the same time, a set of reviews describe inconsistent conduct, poor responsiveness, and unprofessional interactions. This variability suggests uneven staff training or supervision across shifts or units. Relatedly, reviewers pointed to gaps in clinical operations: medication-management weaknesses and at least one instance where incorrect medication administration was linked to a serious medical event. Those concerns indicate a need for stronger pharmacologic protocols and audit processes.

Facility amenities are generally viewed positively: private bathrooms, cleanliness, and a lack of persistent odors were emphasized, though room size and the availability of a permanent private room were sometimes criticized as small or temporary. Dining and activity offerings are strengths, and many families appreciated the small, well-kept atmosphere and the continuity provided by long-term staff members.

Management and administrative processes are another area of concern. Multiple reviews describe poor communication with family caregivers, billing errors or confusion (including bills sent to residents rather than responsible family members), and stressful follow-up calls. Several comments also raise serious stewardship issues: allegations of theft, missing personal property, and misuse of legal documents in a few instances. These are acute concerns that point to weaknesses in property controls, documentation safeguards, and escalation or investigation procedures.

In summary, New Harmony Care Center shows important positives that may suit some residents: attractive location, clean and intimate facility spaces, engaging activities, solid dining, and instances of very compassionate direct care and strong hospice coordination. However, prospective residents and families should weigh these strengths against operational risks documented in reviews: inconsistent staff conduct and training, medication-management gaps, administrative and billing communication problems, variability in room accommodations, and serious allegations concerning financial and property safeguards. Those considering the facility should ask management about staff training and supervision, medication administration protocols and audits, property- and financial-safeguarding measures, and their process for family communication and billing reconciliation before making a placement decision.

    About New Harmony Care Center

New Harmony Care Center has a wide range of senior care options all in one community, so people can move in while they're still living independently and stay as their needs change over time, which a lot of families find helpful since the place handles independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing care, all within the same property. They've been open since 2005 and operate both at their main Maplewood address and from a Saint Paul mailing address, so that's something to keep in mind for families looking at locations. The building itself feels home-like and quiet, with semi-private suites for different levels of care, assisted living apartments and suites, dedicated memory care areas, and spots for short-term rehab stays if someone needs extra help after surgery or a hospital visit. For people with Alzheimer's or dementia, New Harmony Care Center has special staff, memory-focused programs, and secure units designed just for their needs, and there's always staff on hand around the clock, doing things like helping with medication, personal care, meals, and support through the day and night.

The community offers meal service, housekeeping, linen services, and maintenance-free living, so residents don't have to worry about daily chores, plus there's transportation for doctor visits, plenty of social and fitness activities including walking paths, a chapel, a fireside lounge, a barbershop and salon, and private dining options for special occasions. Amenities focus on comfort, making the suites furnished and equipped with cable TV, phone, and wifi, and the place also has things like a fitness center, spa services, scheduled activities, and programs intended to keep everyone engaged. They provide physical, occupational, and speech therapies on site for people who need extra support, and full skilled nursing and wound care services for those who need medical attention. Residents who just want independent living can enjoy a busy social calendar and get help with things like meals or medications if they want, but those who need more help get extra support with dressing, bathing, transfers, and care coordination. The grounds have outdoor spaces and walking areas, and the whole community aims for a neighborhood feel, so new residents can settle in and feel like part of the group, whether they're there for a short stay or planning to age in place for years to come. There's also respite care if a family needs somewhere safe for a loved one to stay for a few days or weeks. New Harmony Care Center focuses on individualized care plans, keeping people as independent as possible but stepping in with the right amount of help when it's needed, all within a steady, supportive, and neighborly environment.
