    Compassionate staff, excellent rehab, welcoming

I'm very pleased with the care my relative received. Staff greeted us with smiles, were patient, compassionate and went above and beyond; rehab and nursing were excellent, communication and follow-up were prompt, and the facility is clean with a warm, family-like atmosphere. I felt confident in their care and would recommend them.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Picayune Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center present a polarized picture: numerous comments describe compassionate, attentive caregivers and strong therapy services, while other accounts raise operational and safety concerns. Positive remarks center on individual staff members and teams who are welcoming, communicative, and effective in admissions, rehab, and everyday care. The facility is also noted for having pleasant common areas, a family-like atmosphere, affordable pricing, and a range of recreational activities that engage some residents.

Care quality and staffing emerge as mixed. Many reviews commend nurses and aides for individualized attention, patience, and going beyond expectations. However, an important pattern is inconsistent staffing coverage across shifts. That inconsistency is tied to several operational consequences described in reviews: delays in basic personal care and incontinence-related care, slow responses after resident falls, and variability in therapy intensity and availability. These patterns suggest that while dedicated staff provide strong care when present, staffing shortfalls can compromise timely delivery of routine and safety-related services.

Staff and management interactions are likewise variable. Admissions and office personnel receive frequent praise for being helpful and clear during transitions. Conversely, reviewers also describe episodes of poor communication tone and conduct from front-line staff, and concerns about medication handling and administration processes. There are also serious administrative concerns raised, including allegations of theft and limited transparency; these items warrant direct inquiry during any evaluation of the facility.

Dining, sanitation, and facility condition show divergence across accounts. Several reviewers note clean common spaces and an accommodating dining environment, while others report dining-service continuity problems, meal-quality inconsistency, and dining-related cleanliness issues. The building is described as aged and in need of renovation in places; maintenance and housekeeping appear to be inconsistent, with some areas well maintained and others showing neglect.

Activities and resident life receive generally positive comments for social programming and small-group activities, though there are requests for more programming targeted to residents who are more independent and mobile. Rehabilitation and transition coordination (including assistance with VA transitions) are commonly cited strengths.

Notable patterns to consider: (1) polarized experiences — strong, person-centered care from specific staff versus operational gaps that arise when staffing is inconsistent; (2) recurring concerns about sanitation and dining-service practices; and (3) medication-management and administrative-transparency issues that families should review closely. Prospective residents and families would benefit from an in-person tour during meal and activity times, direct questions about staffing levels and fall-response protocols, review of medication administration policies, and examination of the facility’s recent inspection and incident records to clarify how the facility addresses the operational issues described.
