    Beautiful caring facility; mom thrives

I feel blessed my mom is here. The facility is beautiful, incredibly clean, and homey, with great common spaces (game rooms, TV/bingo room, salon, exercise areas) and a range of living options. Staff are excellent-knowledgeable, responsive, considerate, and give individualized attention; meals are good and dietary needs are accommodated. Residents are friendly and the atmosphere is hopeful; overall I'm very pleased and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The facility presents a mix of clear strengths and serious operational concerns. Many comments praise the physical environment and day-to-day living experience—reviewers describe a clean, home-like setting with attractive common areas, a small-community feel that allows individualized attention, and a staff that is often characterized as knowledgeable and considerate. Assisted-living residents appear to benefit from an active social program, regular external entertainment, on-site personal services (hairstylist, laundry), and dining that some families describe as high quality.

Care and staff: Care quality is a split area. Positive accounts highlight responsive, compassionate caregiving and individualized attention consistent with a smaller, less crowded setting. However, other accounts identify gaps in staffing, training, and supervision that can produce inconsistent care outcomes. Specific operational concerns include delayed clinical attention (for example wound care) and uneven supervision during off hours; these point to variability in how clinical and safety protocols are applied across shifts.

Dining and activities: Dining receives generally favorable comments, with mentions of accommodating modified diets (pureed meals, frequent snacks) and some strong praise for food quality. Activity programming is robust in assisted-living areas (games, bingo, exercise, social spaces), plus outside entertainers are brought in. Memory-care programming appears more limited, with fewer structured activities noted for residents who require higher levels of cognitive support.

Facilities and safety: The facility's physical upkeep and atmosphere are recurring positives, but reviewers also raise operational safety issues. Concerns include inconsistent infection-control practices and sanitation/odor issues in some areas, as well as supervision lapses that can affect resident safety at night. Room sizes and privacy are cited as limitations for some units.

Management, administration, and financial practices: Several comments praise staff interactions, yet there are significant administrative concerns. Allegations of missing personal items, problematic asset controls, and aggressive billing or collections practices emerged in some accounts; these raise questions about financial transparency and resident-asset protections. Families also describe poor communication and limited transparency from management around clinical incidents, room moves, and billing decisions. Perceptions that cost-control priorities influence care decisions were also noted.

Notable patterns and advice for families: The collection of feedback suggests a facility with many day-to-day strengths (cleanliness, engaged staff in assisted living, varied activities, good dining) alongside operational weaknesses that could materially affect higher-acuity residents (medication and asset controls, infection prevention, supervision, and family communication). Prospective families should weigh the facility's pleasant environment and active assisted-living offerings against the documented administrative and clinical-process concerns, and consider clarifying policies on medication management, incident reporting, infection control, room size options, and billing practices before making a placement decision.

    About Crabapple Village Senior Estates

Crabapple Village Senior Estates, located in Saint Clair, Missouri, offers both assisted living and independent living options within a community setting where people make friends and find support for their hobbies, and assistance is there if someone needs it, all under the umbrella of Americare Senior Living with the Live Well program, so there's that holistic approach a lot of folks like. There are 65 assisted living units, including studio layouts, and the facility is licensed for assisted living and memory care under License #24395, while being only about 8 miles outside of Union, Missouri, which is convenient for some. The staff includes skilled nurses and caregivers who are there around the clock for health checkups and help with things like bathing, dressing, and medication, and there are options for seniors who want to live independently without the hassle of upkeep.

Residents can count on amenities such as a well-equipped fitness room, tranquil gardens for quiet time, and on top of the regular meals, there's regular housekeeping, plus someone comes in for salon services if a haircut's needed, and you'll also find gaming rooms and activities like movie nights, a variety of daily or monthly activities, even health and wellness lectures. The whole place is pet-friendly and has Wi-Fi/high-speed internet, and they've tried to make the environment wheelchair accessible. There's a focus on keeping people active and engaged with a full calendar of events for socializing or picking up new interests, and they keep a welcoming feel to the place, with both single and couple apartments available. For people who need more care, there's memory care for Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, with special programs and 24-hour support to reduce confusion, and all memory care rooms and areas are designed for safety. Along with assisted living, they've also got a nursing home and skilled nursing facility for those who need round-the-clock nursing help, plus rehabilitation services for those recovering from illness or injury, focusing on physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

There are transportation services for when folks have appointments or want to go into town, and medical services and supplies are available on-site, along with hospice and respite care to give families a break. Home care is an option too, where aides can provide non-medical care and companionship for people who wish to stay in their homes. There's an option for adult day care, rehabilitation, and continuing care, and everything is designed to support people as their needs change, being part of a full Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). Residents and families find comfort in knowing most health insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid, is accepted. Support is tailored to the individual, with help for daily living needs, personal care, and medication, all in a place that tries to feel like home, where management keeps an open ear, encourages dignity, and works to foster a sense of belonging and even a bit of joy every day, while the overall rating stands at 6.5 out of 10, which gives you an honest picture of where things stand.
