    Caring staff, clean facility, recommended

I placed my dad here and have been very pleased: the staff are caring, well-trained and attentive-nurses treat him like family and managers resolve issues promptly. The facility and grounds are bright, spacious and very clean, with thoughtful touches like a meaningful birthday video project and a lovely chapel; Admissions Coordinator Sierra Athow was especially helpful. Overall I'm satisfied and would recommend this warm, professional community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews portray Good Shepherd Lutheran Community as a facility with many strengths in daily care and a pleasant physical environment, while also showing operational inconsistencies that prospective families should evaluate in person. Positive comments cluster around attentive, experienced caregivers and nursing staff who are described as proactive about residents' health and engaged in residents' daily lives. Multiple accounts highlight personalized treatment, prompt problem resolution when managers are involved, and staff participation in activities that create a warm, resident-centered atmosphere.

Care and staff: Care quality is a strong theme where reported: reviewers frequently describe caring, professional nurses and aides who know residents' needs and check health conditions. Staff involvement in social and memory-oriented projects (for example, a noted birthday video project) and friendly management interactions are cited as evidence of individualized attention. That said, reviewers also describe variability in staff demeanor and continuity; reliance on agency staff was mentioned as a factor that can reduce consistency of assignments and interpersonal familiarity.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The physical setting receives generally favorable comments โ€” clean resident rooms and dining areas, bright and spacious communal spaces, attractive decor, a chapel for memorials, and well-kept grounds. Entertainment offerings and variety in programming were praised by some reviewers (live performances, varied activities), while others observed limited activity availability at the time of their visit. Room size and capacity are recurring practical concerns: several comments reference small private spaces and a crowded feel in parts of the community. The building is also characterized as an older facility, which may explain occasional references to needed updates.

Management and notable patterns: Management feedback is mixed. Some reviewers note clear improvements under newer leadership and single-staff exemplars (including an admissions coordinator named Sierra Athow) who facilitated move-ins and family communication. Conversely, other accounts criticize prior management for poor oversight and describe ongoing leadership gaps and a perception that business priorities sometimes override care considerations. These management factors are cited as contributing to variability in care continuity and responsiveness.

Recommendation: For prospective residents and families, Good Shepherd Lutheran Community offers a compassionate care culture, engaged staff, and a generally pleasant physical environment. Visitors should assess current staffing patterns, room size, and the activity calendar during a tour, and ask about the facility's use of agency staff and recent management changes to clarify continuity and leadership stability before making a placement decision.
