    Beautiful campus with caring staff

I toured the campus and was impressed - beautiful, clean facility with up-to-date apartments, a lovely dining room and great food, and genuinely caring, attentive staff. The active calendar (movies, arts & crafts, card clubs, pool and warm-water aerobics), wellness amenities, walking paths and strong sense of community make it easy for me to recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Immanuel: Lakeside presents as a well-appointed senior living campus with a strong environmental focus and a broad range of amenities. Several reviewers praised its new-construction design elements, active recycling and composting programs, and resident-led green initiatives. The property offers a wide set of community spaces and on-site services—from a restaurant-style dining room and library to a movie theater, arts-and-crafts rooms, a wellness center, pool, and walking paths—that support a varied lifestyle for independent and assisted living residents as well as a separate memory-care wing.

Care and staff: Staff interactions are consistently described as warm, welcoming, and helpful. Many comments point to attentive maintenance and a hospitable, home-like atmosphere. The campus is credited with steady infection-control measures during COVID and ongoing efforts to keep residents engaged. However, there are intermittent concerns about staff engagement in the admissions/tour process, with isolated accounts of uninterested tour escorts; this suggests variability in front-line sales or marketing responsiveness rather than a pervasive staffing failure.

Dining: Dining impressions are mixed and represent one of the clearest pattern-level issues. Several reviewers praised generous portions, attractive plating, and a pleasant dining room experience; others described persistent dissatisfaction with food quality and a lack of healthy-menu options. There are accounts of resident committees raising food concerns without rapid change, indicating inconsistent culinary performance and uneven responsiveness to dietary feedback.

Activities and social life: The community offers a robust calendar—card clubs, movies, bus excursions, classes, and wellness programming are available and commonly appreciated. Reviewers frequently mention an active resident life and a strong sense of community. At the same time, some residents and family members wished for deeper social integration beyond scheduled events, indicating that while programming is plentiful, facilitation of closer peer-to-peer engagement could be strengthened.

Facilities and maintenance: Physically the campus is attractive, with well-kept lawns, a pool, and newer amenity spaces. Newer apartments are described as up-to-date and spacious. Conversely, some individual units and corridors were characterized as older, darker, or in need of cosmetic updates (carpeting, appliances), indicating uneven modernization across the property. Prospective residents should verify the condition of specific units during tours.

Management and policies: The provider demonstrates institutional strengths—environmental initiatives, transparent amenities, and local accolades—yet there are operational traits that warrant attention. Pricing structure includes sizable entrance fees and buy-in requirements that may be prohibitive for some households; a few reviewers cited affordability concerns. There are also references to long waitlists or delayed openings for certain units. A notable policy-level concern is privacy: at least one reviewer referenced bathroom cameras, which raises the need for clear, documented privacy and surveillance policies and family discussion prior to move-in.

Notable patterns and guidance for families: Immanuel: Lakeside is likely to suit prospective residents who value campus amenities, environmental stewardship, and an engaged, friendly staff. Families should tour specific units to assess modernization levels and corridor lighting, ask detailed questions about culinary flexibility and how food complaints are handled, confirm current waitlist and buy-in timelines, and request written policies on surveillance and resident privacy. Visiting during a mealtime and an activity period can help assess the consistency of dining and programming firsthand.

    About Immanuel: Lakeside

Immanuel: Lakeside sits in Omaha, Nebraska, in a quiet spot with nice views of the lake, walking paths, peaceful lawns, and parkside spaces where you'll see folks strolling or sitting outside, and it covers many types of care for seniors like independent living, assisted living, secured memory care, skilled nursing, and CCRC campus options, so you'll find different levels of support all in the same place, which can really be easier as needs change. The building has only 12 studio units, and each one includes its own private bathroom, kitchenette, air conditioning, cable TV, phone, and Wi-Fi, so each resident has privacy and the basics for comfort, and the rooms are wheelchair accessible and have controlled access for safety. For those needing special care, there's a secured memory care area with Wanderguard features, specialized dementia support, and activities meant to keep the mind active. The full-time nurse on staff, 24-hour supervision, call systems, and medication management, along with help with bathing, dressing, transfers, and daily living, mean folks get the personal care they need, when they need it, and there's always someone to lend a hand. The community offers all-inclusive pricing, so services like laundry, housekeeping, and even dry cleaning are included, and there's regular meal preparation with restaurant-style dining, all-day dining, meals for special diets like allergies or diabetes, and snacks too, so residents are well-fed and can eat with others. There are scheduled transportation services, parking, move-in help, and a concierge for little tasks. The building's got a whirlpool spa, a wellness room, a fitness area, a swimming pool with warm water, a jacuzzi, a movie theater for movie nights, a library, game rooms, arts spaces, and even a garden and secured courtyard, so there's always something to do indoors or outdoors. Residents enjoy social, educational, and recreational activities that help build friendships and keep everyone busy, and there's also spiritual care with full-time pastors and an on-site chapel, which means those who want it can take part in faith-based programs and services. Regular off-campus outings are part of the activities, and the staff always try to respond to what each person enjoys or needs by offering a range of senior care services that can be personalized. The community has specialized memory support, Home Health Care, respite care, and long-term care services, with more options for skilled nursing and related care available in Des Moines and programs like Immanuel Pathways (PACE®) in Central Iowa, Eastern Nebraska, and Southwest Iowa. Immanuel: Lakeside is focused on giving people a safe, cozy place to live with plenty of chances to socialize and stay active, while still letting folks hold on to their independence for as long as they can.
