    Warm attentive staff, spotless rooms

I'm very pleased with this community - the staff are warm, attentive and genuinely caring, and they know residents by name. The bright, spotless rooms and lovely outdoor areas (patio, bird aviary) plus lots of meaningful activities keep my loved one engaged. Management is responsive, caregivers are dedicated, and I feel real peace of mind; I recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Summerset Senior Living — Memory Care and Adaptive Care is portrayed primarily as a compassionate, family-style memory-care community with several notable strengths in caregiving, activities, and environment. Many accounts emphasize caregiving that is hands-on and resident-centered: caregivers and directorial staff are described as caring, attentive, and willing to make individualized adjustments that led in at least one case to measurable clinical improvement. The community offers a continuum of care options and room layouts, and reviewers highlight supportive offerings such as hospice/respite accommodations.

Care and staff: The dominant theme is strong, compassionate staffing. Staff members are often described as knowing residents by name, providing personal grooming and hygiene assistance, and engaging residents in meaningful ways. Leadership receives repeated praise for accessibility and responsiveness, with the director of care services cited as available day and night. At the same time, there are isolated but consequential accounts of delayed responses to resident calls and instances of unprofessional conduct at entry points; these suggest variability in responsiveness and professionalism that prospective families should evaluate during tours and through questions about shift coverage and response protocols.

Dining: Dining impressions are mixed. Several reviewers note improved eating and support for residents with changing appetites, but there are also mentions of meals that did not meet individual preferences. This points to generally adequate nutrition and meal-service capability with room to refine menu variety and resident-specific palatability.

Activities and environment: The community’s activity program and physical environment are consistent strengths. Reviewers describe a lively schedule with frequent social programming, opportunities for outdoor time on a large patio and garden, an aviary/bird feature, murals, and recreational amenities such as a putting green. These elements contribute to a bright, cheerful atmosphere that many residents appear to enjoy, and families describe peace of mind stemming from those engagement opportunities.

Facilities and operations: The property receives positive comments for aesthetics, outdoor access, and communal spaces that support socialization. Operationally, however, there are references to unevenness in day-to-day execution — phrased here as operational consistency gaps — which can manifest as variable interactions at front-desk or entrance areas and differences in service quality between shifts. Prospective residents should ask about staffing ratios, handoff procedures, and quality-auditing practices.

Management and communication: Management is frequently characterized as responsive and willing to communicate, with weekly family visits and regular updates highlighted. This responsiveness appears to be a strong point for many families and contributes to trust in the organization. Nonetheless, because there are accounts of unresponsiveness in some interactions, it is advisable for families to verify escalation pathways, on-call coverage, and how the community documents and follows up on care concerns.

Notable patterns and considerations: Overall, Summerset presents as a well-appointed, activity-rich memory-care community with a staff base that is largely compassionate and family-oriented. The most consistent caveats concern variability in responsiveness and professionalism at certain points of contact and occasional dissatisfaction with meal choices. For prospective families: verify current staffing models, observe entrance and shift-change interactions during a visit, sample the dining program if possible, and request specifics about response-time metrics and quality-improvement practices to confirm alignment with your expectations.

    About Summerset Senior Living

Summerset Senior Living - Memory Care and Adaptive Care sits in North West Reno and provides care for adults aged 55 and older who need memory care, adaptive care, or respite care. The staff supports people with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, Huntington's, ALS, and other conditions. Residents can age in place because the care changes as people's needs change, and the facility uses personalized care plans for each resident. The Memory Care Team and the Adaptive Care Program provide support for those with mild to severe memory needs and for those with more complex conditions. Help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, grooming, medication reminders, and eating is available all day and night. There's always someone there to help, and residents can also get help with physical health through daily health checks, medication management, and fitness programs like low-impact exercise, yoga, and walking groups.

Memory care residents have safe and secure living spaces that help prevent wandering, including locked entrances and exits, with common areas and plenty of outdoor areas like gardens and walking paths. There's a dedicated focus on activities that help memory, like puzzles, memory games, music therapy, art classes, and reminiscence therapy. Residents can join group outings to places like parks, theaters, and historic sites, or stay in and attend events, workshops, and music groups. There are different room choices-private, semi-private, or studios-and residents can personalize their living space with their own things. The entire facility is built to be accessible with grab bars, wheelchair access, and features like Hoyer lifts for those who need them.

Community areas include a physical therapy room, a whirlpool spa room, an exercise gym, indoor and outdoor lounges, a sports bar and entertainment center, an ice cream parlor, theater, meditation rooms, an arts and crafts area, a library and computer center, and even a pet-friendly dog park. Scheduled housekeeping, linen services, laundry and dry cleaning, apartment and grounds maintenance, and free transportation to medical appointments are part of everyday life. There's an in-room emergency alert system and alert pendants for safety.

Meals come from chef-prepared menus with options for all diets, including special plans for diabetic, heart-healthy, and low-sodium needs. Residents can eat all day from 7 AM to 7 PM at the table-service dining room, fireside dining room, bistro, or nostalgic soda shop. The staff helps monitor fluid intake and provide snacks to keep everybody hydrated, and communal dining and meal assistance help people socialize and eat well. Family involvement is encouraged with regular updates, family support groups, educational events, and care planning meetings.

Summerset keeps people engaged with things like chair yoga, walking groups, memory activities, music, art, reading, and social events-all aimed at supporting independence and well-being. Staff receive memory care training, including The Virtual Dementia Tour, so they understand the challenges residents face. Care plans adapt to changing needs and focus on safety, dignity, and emotional support. The goal is to keep a steady routine, reduce stress, and maintain as much independence as possible for every resident.
