    Compassionate staff improve residents' quality

I moved my dad here and have been very pleased. The community feels like home - clean, modern and welcoming - with compassionate staff (administration, nurses, aides, maintenance and dining) who truly go above and beyond, communicate well with medical providers, and focus on improving residents' quality of life. Restaurant-quality meals, frequent activities (Gina and the activity team do a great job), smooth transitions and attentive, respectful care make this a place I'd happily recommend - just a few small tweaks away from perfect.

    Summary of reviews

This collection of reviews presents a polarized picture of Volante Senior Living of Reno. Many families describe strong, compassionate caregiving, a modern facility and an active lifestyle program; others raise significant operational concerns related to staffing, clinical oversight, environmental reliability, and management communication. Prospective families should weigh both the consistent strengths and the recurring operational patterns identified below.

Care and staff: A common positive theme is the presence of caring, responsive direct-care staff and named employees who made strong impressions on residents and families. Several reviewers highlighted staff empathy, individualized attention, and staff members who actively coordinate with outside medical providers. However, an opposing pattern appears around workforce stability and clinical consistency: high turnover and periods of understaffing are reported, and reviewers described medication-administration errors, delays in attending to resident needs, and inconsistent emergency-response behavior. There are also serious safety-related concerns in some accounts, including documented injuries and at least one mention of regulatory involvement; these are summarized in the cons as allegations of serious resident-safety incidents and gaps in incident investigation and family communication.

Dining and activities: The facility receives praise for its dining program from many reviewers—mentions of an on-site chef, restaurant-style meals, and room-service options are common. At the same time, other reviewers find meal quality uneven and describe a decline in food standards. Activities are consistently noted as a strength: a well-developed calendar, an active activities director, frequent events and outings, and multiple amenity spaces such as arts-and-crafts rooms, a theater, and game areas.

Facilities and operations: Physically, the building is described as modern, clean, well-lit and wheelchair-friendly, with accessible layouts and pleasant common areas. Maintenance responsiveness is cited positively by several families. Counterbalancing that, reviewers report operational reliability issues including intermittent power outages and concerns about oxygen monitoring and other equipment dependability. Housekeeping and room upkeep are reported inconsistently across reviews, with some families noting good cleanliness and others citing lapses. Transportation and billing practices (for example, missed-appointment charges) and admission-process inflexibility were additional operational pain points noted by families.

Management and patterns to watch: Feedback about leadership is mixed—some reviewers praised a professional, helpful admissions team and responsive administrators, while others described poor communication, slow follow-up, and management acknowledgment of care gaps without consistent remediation. The overall pattern in these reviews is one of strong interpersonal caregiving by many staff members and attractive physical amenities, paired with recurring operational weaknesses tied to staffing stability, clinical management, housekeeping consistency, and infrastructural reliability.

Recommendation for families: When evaluating this community, request specifics about staffing ratios and turnover, medication-administration protocols and incident-response procedures, back-up power and oxygen-monitoring systems, housekeeping schedules, transportation policies and charges, and how the facility documents and communicates adverse events to families. Arrange an extended visit that includes daytime and evening observation and direct conversations with the nursing leadership and activities director to assess whether the facility’s operational practices meet your relative’s needs.
