    Gorgeous community with superb amenities

I'm very impressed with this gorgeous, well-managed community - attentive staff, superb in-house healthcare and spacious rooms make daily life easy. The dining is fabulous, activities are lively (daily fitness, pottery and painting studios, indoor pool, arboretum trails) and it's excellent value, which explains the wait list. Great location; I'd happily recommend it for active seniors.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews convey a consistently positive impression of RiverWoods Exeter the Ridge as a well-kept, amenity-rich senior living community. Commenters highlight an attractive campus with both indoor and outdoor features — including an indoor pool, dedicated pottery and painting studios, and arboretum walking trails — that support an active lifestyle. Common praise is given to the quality of the physical environment and the breadth of scheduled programming, which appears to be lively and varied.

Care and staffing are described positively. Reviewers emphasize attentive staff and integrated, in-house clinical services; several comments characterize the health-care offering as robust and responsive. Dining is repeatedly noted as a strong point, with fine-dining service and consistent food quality called out. Rooms are described as spacious, and the community is perceived as delivering good value relative to the services and amenities offered. The community also attracted favorable attention for its pandemic-era outcomes.

Management and demand patterns emerge as notable operational features. The facility is described as well managed and in high demand, with high occupancy and an active wait-list. That demand signals popularity but also creates practical constraints: prospective residents may face limited immediate availability and reduced choice of specific units. The programmatic focus on social, arts, and fitness programming suggests a particular suitability for relatively independent, active seniors.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: if you prioritize an active-leaning lifestyle with strong on-site amenities, RiverWoods Exeter the Ridge aligns well with those expectations. Families seeking placement for someone who will need ongoing, intensive 24/7 skilled nursing or specialized memory-care services should confirm the community’s capacity, staffing ratios, and programmatic supports for higher-dependency care before committing. Also inquire about current wait-list timelines, unit-availability options, and any move-in flexibility given the facility’s high occupancy.

    About RiverWoods Exeter the Ridge

RiverWoods Exeter The Ridge, located at 5 Timber Lane in Exeter, New Hampshire, sits in a peaceful spot close to the Swasey Parkway and not far from attractions like Phillips Exeter Academy, the Exeter Historical Society, and the American Independence Museum, so folks living there can enjoy nature and history while also running down to the local Walgreens or grabbing coffee at Starbucks nearby, which is pretty handy if that's what they like. The Ridge is one of three neighborhoods on a recently updated campus with classic New England charm, where residents can find independent living, assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing care, so people can stay even if their needs change, and they don't have to worry about moving again as they get older or need more help. The place has activities and amenities typical of a senior community, such as a fitness program spread over three fitness centers, indoor pools, walking and biking trails, garden beds, and even a big arboretum and beehives, and there's always something going on with concerts, lectures, Earth Week celebrations, art classes, woodworking, gardening, and movie nights, so residents find ways to stay busy or relax as they please.

Each residence at The Ridge comes with a full kitchen, new appliances, sunlit rooms, window blinds, and the homes can be set up to match each resident's style, some even have screened porches and balconies, so there's some choice and a bit of home comfort, and there's always air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom. Living spaces like the Living Room and Library have sunny corners for chatting, reading, or evening gatherings, and creative folks might enjoy the Art & Crafts Room, a unique Pottery Studio, and a woodworking shop, which gives plenty of options for keeping hands busy. There's a dining room, scheduled daily activities, and a transportation service to help residents get around for errands or fun, which helps keep everyone active and connected, and the place uses a 24-hour emergency call system for extra safety.

The Ridge offers many care levels, including assistance with daily activities, medication management, personal care, and services tailored for people who need support with memory or rehabilitation, with a Community Life Director and team making sure the community feels warm, friendly, and engaged, whether that's with big group programs or one-on-one help, and folks can use respite care if their regular caregivers need a break. It's a nonprofit, nationally accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community, so the focus stays on respect, a real sense of community, and peace of mind for both residents and staff, and the organization has over 30 years behind it serving seniors across their three New Hampshire locations. The Ridge, like the rest of RiverWoods Exeter, aims to help older adults stay independent as long as possible while making it easy to get more help when they need it, and nobody has to feel isolated with all the social, fitness, art, and learning events going on, not to mention raised garden beds, trails, and the excitement of a community score of 5.5 and an average 4.6-star rating from 40 reviews. Hours run weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and visitors can use web chat for quick questions, but the place closes on weekends. The Ridge hasn't been claimed online by the business owner or representative, but the staff and programs stay focused on values like being genuine, respectful, community-driven, and not for self, and whether someone needs independent living, assisted living, memory support, or skilled nursing, there's help close by-plus the simple joys of sun-filled rooms, scenic paths, and community life.
