    Lovely well-kept Victorian with warmth

I toured this lovely, well-kept 16-bed Victorian with a wrap-around porch and immediately felt a home-like warmth - the caring, wonderful staff, friendly residents, engaging activities, and lovely lunches all impressed me. The owner is involved, rooms are nice, and the price is right; I'd happily recommend this small, intimate community.

    Summary of reviews

The Villager Assisted Living is described consistently as a small, residential-style assisted living option housed in a well‑kept historic Victorian home. Reviewers emphasize a home-like atmosphere, a wrap‑around porch and orderly common spaces that contribute to a warm, familiar environment. The facility’s modest scale (approximately 16 beds) is frequently cited as a defining characteristic that shapes the resident experience.

Care and staff interactions are portrayed positively. Families and visitors describe staff as caring and attentive, with owner involvement cited as a reinforcing element of oversight and encouragement. Several accounts indicate consistent interpersonal engagement between staff and residents, and some families reported that the level of attention exceeded expectations. At the same time, the small size that enables individualized attention can create tradeoffs in capacity and the variety of in‑house clinical supports available.

Dining and activities receive favorable remarks. Meal service is characterized as pleasant, with at least one mention of a "lovely lunch." The activity program and social life are frequently highlighted: residents are described as active, "out and about," and participating in engaging programming. The owner and staff are noted to encourage resident involvement, contributing to the community feel and social interaction.

Facilities and accommodations align with the home‑like positioning: rooms and common areas are reported as nice and well‑kept, and the historic architecture is a positive factor for many visitors. Conversely, the facility operates some shared-bedroom arrangements and has limited space for personal furnishings, which may restrict personalization for residents used to more space or private rooms.

Management and suitability considerations: overall impressions lean strongly positive, with several recommendations and comments that the facility "exceeded expectations." Owner involvement is viewed as a management strength that supports the small, intimate model. Prospective residents and families should weigh that model’s advantages against its constraints — limited overall capacity, potential roommate arrangements, and correspondingly limited on‑site clinical services when compared with larger assisted living or memory care campuses. Fit and timing were also noted: some visitors appreciated the community but determined it was not their preferred placement at that moment.

Notable patterns: consistent themes are strong interpersonal care, active programming, and an attractive historic setting offered at an affordable price point. The primary operational tradeoffs are the small scale — which can limit private‑room availability and personalization — and the resulting boundaries on clinical resources. For families prioritizing personalized attention, social engagement, and a homelike environment, The Villager appears to be a good match; families requiring more private space or more comprehensive on‑site clinical services should probe room availability and clinical offerings during a tour.

    About The Villager Assisted Living

The Villager Assisted Living sits in the heart of Goffstown, NH, beside a river and parkway, and you'll find it in a beautifully renovated old Victorian house with a wrap-around porch and a solarium where folks like to sit, read, or enjoy home-cooked meals. The atmosphere feels old-fashioned and cozy, with just 16 accommodations that are snug and inviting, and everyone gets their own white rocking chair to sit out on the circular porch and watch the front lawn or local birds and wildlife passing by. There's a country living feel right in the village, and the home-like setting makes it easy for folks to settle in and feel comfortable.

The Villager Retirement Home offers private, semi-private, and studio rooms-semi-private rooms cost $3800 per month and private rooms range from $4800 to $5300, prices based on size-with each room offering cable, internet, and emergency pull cords. Meals are home-cooked, and staff provides three meals a day, as well as housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning, so residents don't have to worry about chores. They've got an all-day meal schedule with options for special diets and food allergies.

There's a lot to do, with a minimum of three activities each day, plus movie nights, casual exercises, crafts, card games, live performances, resident parties, weekly outings, and community events that help folks feel connected and active. You'll find community rooms, walking paths, onsite gardens, a library, beauty salon, barbershop, games room, and an activity center, while the staff arranges transportation, schedules doctor's appointments, and handles move-in coordination. The Villager welcomes pets, but there's a no-smoking policy indoors to keep the air clean.

There's 24-hour in-house staff giving care whenever it's needed, helping with bathing, dressing, moving, medication management, and more, and they're ready to support both independent and non-ambulatory residents. The place is fully wheelchair accessible and can provide one-on-one care if someone needs it. They work closely with outside healthcare providers, and offer in-house visits from primary care physicians and geriatric mental health through Generations, and they'll help with hospice care when needed. There's an emergency alert system in every room for safety.

Social life is strong, with on-site devotional services and trips out to church, plus lots of community-sponsored activities. Folks can relax or spend time with friends in the solarium, outdoors on the porch, or along walking paths. The Villager focuses on supporting as much independence as possible, encouraging social connections, and promoting well-being, all in a friendly, peaceful setting where residents are treated like family. The staff gets described as warm, helpful, and always around when you need something, and the whole environment, from the country décor to the active calendar, is meant to make seniors feel safe, valued, and at home.
