    Caring staff and effective rehab

I stayed here for rehab and had a very positive experience. The nursing and therapy teams were caring, friendly, and dedicated - therapists worked with me daily, my mobility improved, and I left with a walker. Doctors were available, the dietitian checked in, and staff communicated regularly and treated me like family. My large, clean room with a bed by the window and the beautiful lobby/flowers made my stay comfortable, and staff were always smiling and helpful.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews reflect a mixed pattern of experiences. Many families and patients praised the clinical rehabilitation program, citing engaged therapists, measurable mobility gains at discharge (including use of a walker), and involvement from a dietitian and physician. Reviewers also described a generally clean facility with an attractive lobby and friendly frontline staff; video-chat options and regular clinical updates were appreciated as supports for family communication and visitation when in-person access was limited.

At the same time, a number of operational concerns recur across reviews. Several accounts indicate inconsistent responsiveness from nursing and aide staff, with extended wait times for assistance and variability in how promptly residents are attended. There are also recurring descriptions of weaknesses in case-management and discharge coordination—families describe delayed discharges, frequent follow-up calls to obtain information, and pressure to self-pay for extra days. Separately, some reviewers raised serious questions about billing and insurance interactions; this has created concern among families about financial transparency and authorization processes.

Facility-level issues beyond clinical care were also noted. Activity programming appears to have been curtailed since COVID-19, leaving fewer recreational options than were previously available. Dining was described as lacking appeal in ambience and occasionally slow in service. Physical layout and room accommodations were highlighted as potential safety and comfort issues—examples include small shared rooms, transfer-safety challenges related to room configuration, and other layout constraints that could complicate mobility. Limited parking availability was mentioned as a practical inconvenience for visitors.

In sum, the facility demonstrates strengths in rehabilitative care, clinical staffing in some areas, cleanliness, and family-access technologies. However, operational consistency is uneven: responsiveness, discharge and billing processes, activity offerings, and certain safety-related aspects appear to be the main areas of concern. Prospective residents and families may want to ask targeted questions during a tour about current staffing ratios and response-time expectations, discharge and billing procedures, transfer-safety protocols, activity schedules post-COVID, and parking availability to assess whether the facility’s current operations align with their needs.

    About Long Island Care Center

Long Island Care Center sits in Flushing, Queens, and serves as a skilled nursing facility with 200 beds, licensed under number 1685, and you'll notice right away the facility stays open all day and night, 7 days a week, so someone's always around. It offers nursing care services, both long-term and short-term, for folks needing ongoing medical help, and it's also part of a Continuing Care Retirement Community which can help residents as their needs change. The staff is a dedicated team, including a Medical Director along with specialists like a plastic surgeon, pulmonologist, and an internal medicine doctor, and they work together for care and supervision of residents' health and safety. The nursing team runs 12- to 16-hour shifts, plus a 24-hour call system, and the care covers things like help with bathing, dressing, moving around, medication management, and for those unable to walk, there's support too.

You'll find recovery care for people who are disabled, plus programs for those dealing with serious conditions, like decubitus ulcers or a C. diff infection, and there's a focus on rehabilitation including polyneuropathy, using programs meant to help folks reach their best possible ability. The center also provides subacute care, short-term rehab, respiratory therapy, and physical therapy, all under the same roof, so it helps folks who might not need a hospital but still need a lot of help getting stronger or recovering after a hospital stay. There are in-house dental and optometry services too, which makes things easier, plus a beauty salon, and a concierge-guest liaison service is there for extra support.

The facility accepts both Medicare and Medicaid insurance plans, which can make care more accessible for different people. An Asian Unit is available for those who need culturally specific care, and the Medicare 30 Day Window Program is another feature offered at this center. Residents will find several room amenities, including private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, telephones, air conditioning, and fast internet, so daily comfort is part of the setting.

For wellness and daily life, there are fitness rooms, a spa, and a sauna, with plenty of fitness programs to encourage movement, and residents can enjoy arts rooms, game rooms, an activity room, a library, and outdoor spaces like gardens and walking paths. Outdoor programs, movie nights, music activities, resident-run activities, and community-sponsored events give people a chance to stay involved and connected, and the friendly, diverse neighborhood lets people venture to nearby parks, cafes, or recreational spots.

Dining is taken care of through a program set up by the community, so meal times are handled on site. Social work services are also on hand, helping with the transition or any personal needs that arise. There's no flashy or unique terminology for the facility's offerings, but every key service from skilled nursing and rehabilitation to daily activities and recovery support for people with severe conditions is part of the center's routine. Long Island Care Center aims for a comfortable, supervised, and safe living environment, where the priority stays on health, support, and making sure everyone can keep up with their daily life as much as possible.
