    Compassionate team enabled safe return

My mother rehabb ed here and I'm very grateful for the compassionate, professional staff - nurses and CNAs who truly treated her like family. The rehab teams were excellent: outstanding PT (Shani and Geese) and phenomenal speech therapy from Laura Accardi that improved swallowing and speech so she could return home safely. The facility was clean, well-equipped, and discharge/home-care coordination was smooth. Overall a caring, competent team that eased our stress and produced real progress.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews of Forest View Center describe a facility with strong rehabilitative resources and a visibly engaged clinical team in many cases, paired with recurring operational weaknesses that families should consider when evaluating placement. Positive accounts consistently highlight outstanding physical and speech therapyโ€”several reviewers credited measurable gains in mobility and swallowing functionโ€”and an on-site therapy infrastructure (large gyms, dedicated PT floors) that supports intensive rehab work. Nursing and therapy staff are often described as compassionate, knowledgeable, and family-oriented; social work and admissions teams are praised for coordination, insurance assistance, and proactive communication in many instances. The facilityโ€™s kosher dining, varied activities program, rooftop patio, and generally clean and well-decorated environment are also frequent strengths.

At the same time, reviews reveal a pattern of inconsistent basic nursing and support care. Families describe variability in responsiveness (with particular concern about nights and weekends), delays attending to toileting and hygiene needs, and instances of inadequate infection-control or sanitation practices. These operational shortcomings are reported alongside medication-administration concerns and several examples of discharge coordination failures. Collectively these items point to weaknesses in staffing levels, supervision, and systems for handoffs and follow-up care rather than uniform clinical incompetence across the facility.

Staff behavior and communication emerge as a mixed picture. Many families praise specific clinicians by nameโ€”especially speech-language pathologists and several therapistsโ€”and note warm, personalized interactions. Other families describe brusque or dismissive communication from aides or supervisory staff and difficulty reaching nurses by phone. Language barriers complicate care for non-English speakers in some cases; translation tools are available but unevenly applied. Reviewers also note variability by unit or floor, with particular floors receiving consistent criticism while others are repeatedly commended, which suggests uneven management oversight across the building.

Dining and activities are generally viewed positively, with dietary progression and kosher meal options lauded. However, reviewers also report inconsistent meal temperature and occasional lack of coordination between clinical dietary needs and meal service. The activities program, rooftop and visitation areas, and regular events are clear assets for resident engagement, though families of residents with cognitive impairment sometimes describe insufficient one-on-one stimulation.

Management and complaint processes appear inconsistent. Several families recount quick, effective resolution of admission- or therapy-related questions, while others report slow or ineffective responses to clinical concerns and dissatisfaction with complaint escalation. Discharge planning outcomes vary: some families describe smooth transitions with home-care referrals, while others report early discharges or gaps in home-care referrals and medication reconciliation.

Bottom line: Forest View Center has notable strengths in rehabilitation, therapy resources, and certain compassionate staff members, and it offers appealing facility amenities and kosher dining. Prospective residents and families should balance those strengths against recurring operational issuesโ€”staffing variability, inconsistent basic-care practices, communication gaps, and floor-to-floor differences. If considering Forest View, visit multiple units, meet the rehabilitation and nursing leadership, ask about staffing ratios for the intended unit and shifts, review recent infection-control and complaint-resolution policies, and request specific examples of discharge-planning processes and language support to set clearer expectations before placement.

    About Forest View Center

Forest View Center for Rehab & Nursing sits in Forest Hills, New York, and was built in 1968, so the building's got a history but they do keep up with things, and people notice how clean, bright, and roomy the inside feels, plus you've got well-maintained living spaces and a staff that works together across all departments, from doctors and nurses to therapists, nutritionists, a responsive social work team, and a hands-on care planning group that doesn't miss much. The place holds up to 160 residents between nursing and assisted living, and the focus is really on healthcare, nursing, and rehab with dedicated short-term rehabilitation units and long-term care for folks who need a steady place. They treat people who need sub-acute care, respiratory help, and different kinds of rehabilitation, including a post-surgical orthopedic program and cardiac recovery, and there's a palliative care program to help people with advanced illness and support their families, which is important for many. Forest View Center does all its meals kosher, certified by Kosher Care International, so that's settled for those who need it, and the dining rooms-three of them-are roomy, so folks don't get cramped during meals, and outside of eating there's a spacious landscaped rooftop patio where people can look out over the New York skyline and get fresh air. Rehabilitation happens in two modern gyms, including a physical therapy workout room with good equipment, and therapists here are well-spoken of for treating people kindly during their sessions. The facility also sets up a cultural Russian program where Russian-speaking residents can feel at home with familiar language and traditions, which can make a big difference for some, and it's a place you do see as safe and social with people always around. There's a virtual video tour available for those who want to see the place before coming in, and the admissions department helps out every step of the way, which can make what's usually a hard time go a little smoother. Forest View Center's a member of the CFW Group and has about 51 to 200 employees, so folks aren't strangers to each other, and after 30 years serving the community, people see it as a trusted provider. If you want to read more about it, they've got a website at www.fvrehab.com where you can find more details.
