    Caring, active, affordable senior community

I'm very pleased with this place - the staff are warm, attentive and trustworthy, rooms and common areas are clean and home-like, and the dining and activities (live music, bingo, outings) keep residents engaged. The administration and caregivers made the transition smooth and my mom feels well cared for and social. Affordable, compassionate care that I'd recommend to families looking for an active, caring senior community.

    Summary of reviews

The New Homestead Home elicits a strongly mixed but information-rich profile. Many families describe a warm, home-like atmosphere with recent cosmetic updates, a small-building feeling, and a programmatically active community. Positive comments focus on compassionate caregivers, long-tenured staff, an involved administrator who is visible in dining and common areas, and proactive case-management. The facility’s location and pricing are often viewed as competitive, and the availability of on-site medical and psychiatric services is seen as a practical advantage for residents who need basic clinical oversight.

Care and staffing are the facility’s most frequently praised features. Reviewers commonly note attentive, respectful aides, responsive nursing/med tech behavior, and staff who foster personalized connections. Several accounts highlight strong family communication during high-stress periods (for example, during infectious-disease restrictions and end-of-life care). At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns: reviewers describe inconsistencies in medication timing and oversight, intermittent staffing coverage issues during specific shifts, and gaps in clinical incident response—issues that have, in some cases, preceded hospital transfers for falls, pressure injuries, or infections.

Dining and activities are clear strengths for many residents. The Homestead offers a broad activity calendar (morning exercise, bingo, live musicians, field trips, and an engaged activities director) and multiple daily meals with variety. Opinions about food quality are mixed: some families praise abundant, tasty options, while others criticize repetitiveness or preparation and presentation. The active programming and social opportunities are frequently cited as important contributors to residents’ well-being and social engagement.

Facility condition and operational logistics present the primary caution areas. Reviewers note areas of deferred maintenance — worn carpeting, older windows, occasional leaks, elevator and safety certificate concerns — as well as uneven housekeeping and sanitation in specific rooms and bathrooms. Accessibility constraints for scooters or walkers and exterior entry steps have been raised. There are also intermittent pest-control and odor concerns mentioned alongside housekeeping inconsistencies. Billing transparency and extra-fee practices (air-conditioner surcharges, separate medication billing, salon fees) are another recurrent theme; families should clarify all chargeable items before admission.

Management and communications receive mixed assessments. Many families praise an engaged owner/administrator and helpful front-desk staff, and several reviewers credit management with going above-and-beyond during crises. Conversely, some note poor responsiveness, delayed follow-up, and harsh or unprofessional communication from specific administrative staff. For prospective residents and families, these patterns suggest the value of in-person visits, structured tours, and direct conversations about staffing patterns, medication procedures, accessibility accommodations, and all financial terms. Overall, The New Homestead Home appears to offer strong interpersonal care and an active community at a reasonable price point, but prospective families should probe operational controls (cleanliness, maintenance, medication protocols, and fee transparency) to assess fit for higher-acuity needs.
