    Friendly professional independent living community

I toured this independent living community and was impressed - the staff were warm, professional and very accommodating. My apartment is bright, clean and homey (compact but nicely laid out) with a handicap-accessible walk-in shower and good closet space. The dining is excellent and diabetic-friendly, activities are plentiful (gym, arts, gardening, classes and outings), and weekly cleaning plus on-site laundry are convenient. It's secure, well-located and friendly - I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Garito Manor at Union Square presents as an independent-living community with an emphasis on a pleasant, home-like environment and accessible amenities. Review content describes clean, bright interiors, landscaped outdoor spaces, and features such as walk-in showers and on-site laundry that support day-to-day independence. The overall atmosphere is often characterized as quiet and secure, and the facility is positioned in a convenient urban location for many prospective residents.

Staff performance is a consistent strength in the commentary. Families and residents frequently note courteous, helpful, and professional staff who are attentive during tours and day-to-day interactions; several accounts reference staff who foster social connections and improved resident mood. The community appears focused on independent living with assistance available as needed rather than higher-acuity clinical care.

Dining and activities show mixed experiences. The facility provides a dining room with two main meals daily and offers diabetic-friendly choices; some reviewers praised the food. However, other comments point to reliance on precooked offerings and uneven meal quality. Programming includes arts and crafts, exercise, gardening, outings, and classes, and some residents report an active social life and new friendships. At the same time, infection-control measures and associated visitor or program restrictions have reduced social interaction for some residents, producing variability in activity availability over time.

Operational considerations include unit size, cost, and transportation. Rooms are described as clean and well-designed but generally small. Several families perceived the community’s scale and layout as impersonal or hotel-like, which may affect fit for people seeking a more intimate setting. Transportation services are limited, which may be important for residents who rely on scheduled group transport. Finally, perceptions of value vary: some reviewers considered pricing reasonable, while others questioned cost relative to food quality and amenities. Prospective residents should tour during regular activity periods, sample meals when possible, and discuss transportation and infection-control policies to assess alignment with their priorities.
