    Caring staff and reassuring management

I had a very good visit - staff are caring, attentive, and often go the extra mile, and management (including the CEO) is clearly involved. The activities director is wonderful, meals were nicely seasoned, and ongoing remodeling shows real investment in residents' comfort; I left with peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers convey a generally positive view of care quality and the human side of the facility. Many comments emphasize attentive, compassionate caregivers who assist with meals and go beyond baseline expectations; several accounts use terms such as 'excellent care' and note that the presence of staff provides families with reassurance and peace of mind. The facilityโ€™s activities program and its activities director receive explicit praise for providing engagement and meaningful programming.

Staff and management: Staff are commonly described as hardworking and caring, and leadership visibility is mentioned positively โ€” including statements that the CEO and management are engaged with residents. That said, there is variability in staff conduct and communication tone: while many encounters are described as pleasant and supportive, isolated experiences of rudeness indicate inconsistent interpersonal performance. Reviewers also describe a short-handed work environment; staff dedication is evident, but workload and staffing levels appear to be an operational stressor.

Dining and daily services: Mealtime assistance and the quality of food are highlighted as strengths in several comments: staff helped with trays and meals and the food was described as seasoned and acceptable. At the same time, operational processes have shown gaps in personal property and laundry management; a loss-of-laundry incident prompted corrective actions, suggesting the facility responds when issues arise but that tracking and handling procedures may need strengthening.

Activities and respite: The activities program is a clear asset, and the facility is used for respite care that delivers comfort to families. Positive visitor experiences and reports of supportive, safe hands reinforce an overall sense that residents receive active engagement and supervision.

Facilities and environment: Physical improvements are underway, with remodeling and repairs noted as ongoing efforts to address damage and modernize spaces. Persistent concerns remain about room size and room-level cleanliness, which affect resident comfort. Reviewers also indicate privacy challenges related to wandering residents, and wayfinding could be improved โ€” signage near elevators and in common areas was identified as needing attention.

Notable patterns and guidance for families: The dominant pattern is one of strong, compassionate caregiving and an engaged leadership that addresses problems when they arise. Counterbalancing that are operational weaknessesโ€”chiefly staffing consistency, room cleanliness and size, privacy management, property/laundry controls, and building wayfinding. Prospective residents and families would be advised to tour the facility during an active service period to observe staffing levels, ask about current staffing ratios and vacancy trends, inquire about laundry and personal-property tracking procedures, review measures for managing wandering and resident privacy, and confirm the status and timeline for ongoing remodeling and signage improvements.

About Rome Health Residential Health Care Facility

Rome Health Residential Health Care Facility, found in Rome, NY, is a non-profit nursing home and part of Rome Memorial Hospital, established back in 1887, and while it's been around a long time, people say it keeps adding services for older adults and families, and you'll find things like long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, and respite care, all taking a person-centered approach so the staff looks at what each resident needs, not just one type of care for everyone. There's an 80-bed skilled nursing area up on the third floor, where nurses and staff-like RN BSN Katrina Wolfe and Dr. Ryan Thachen-Cary-help folks with ongoing health needs and also help people recover after things like surgery or illnesses, with programs aimed at rapid recovery and rehabilitation. The building stays busy, because it's got about 1,001 to 5,000 employees across various departments, including specialized areas like orthopedics and sports medicine, offering treatments such as PRP injections for joint and tendon healing, and they also do things like pelvic floor rehab. It's got outpatient rehab services, a sleep center, primary care, even prenatal care, so families in different stages of life get care there-a lot of folks find comfort in that kind of setup. The facility stands out because it's affiliated with St. Joseph's Health and serves as a clinical site for New York Medical College, bringing in new doctors and students to help out and learn. It tries to make sure there's a caring environment for seniors, with special programs like a Senior Behavioral Health Unit, and people recognize it as a NICHE facility, meaning it's known for treating older adults well. They give expert guidance for long-term care and family caregiving, helping families make decisions, which comes in handy when people don't always know what steps to take. The nursing home and residential health care team aims for quality care every day, using a team approach, and while nobody says any place is perfect, this one works to handle the changing needs of older adults in the area.
