    Beautiful, clean, welcoming senior community

I moved my mom here and couldn't be happier. The beautiful, clean facility on a golf-course feels like home; apartments are spacious, can take your own furniture and have walk-in showers. Staff are outstanding - warm, attentive, helped with the move and made social integration easy so my mom made friends quickly. Meals and activities (bridge, movies, bingo) are enjoyable, care is included, and it's a safe, welcoming community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with repeated praise for the facility's cleanliness, the size and condition of apartments, and the warmth and attentiveness of staff. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the community is very clean, well-decorated, and feels 'like home.' Apartments are described as spacious and relatively new, with features such as walk-in showers. The setting (a hometown/golf course environment) and the residential, family-like atmosphere are recurring positives that contribute to residents' sense of comfort and security.

Care quality and staff performance are standout strengths. Reviewers consistently report friendly, attentive staff who remember residents' names, provide good personal care, assist with move-ins, and foster quick social integration. Laundry service, birthday celebrations, and small touches that create a cheerful environment are mentioned as indicators of individualized attention. Several comments note that all necessary care is included in the monthly cost, which reviewers view as an important value factor. Some reviewers explicitly state that their family members are well looked after and would recommend the community.

Dining reviews are mixed. Breakfast and lunch are generally described as acceptable or good, and some reviewers specifically praise meal portions. However, a number of residents do not enjoy dinner, and there is variation in how people rate overall food quality. The facility does offer flexible dining options — for example, the option to eat in the main lodge even when a dining companion is not available — which supports social dining for more residents.

Activities and social programming show both positives and gaps. There are active offerings cited by reviewers — bridge, movies, bingo, and day care activities — and many residents report becoming involved quickly and making friends. At the same time, several reviews note that there are 'few activities' or that programming can feel limited for some residents. One specific operational concern raised is that transportation to day services or activities was arranged only after families pushed for it; this suggests that while transportation exists, its availability or initiation may require family advocacy.

Facilities and apartment furnishing present a notable inconsistency across reviews. Some reviewers describe their apartments as nicely furnished and move-in ready, while others explicitly state that apartments were unfurnished and came with no towels, sheets, or furniture. Multiple comments emphasize that units can accommodate residents' own furniture, which is positive for personalization, but prospective residents should be aware that what is provided in a unit may vary. This inconsistency is one of the clearest practical issues prospective residents should verify during tours or before move-in.

There is a small but important negative signal: at least one reviewer simply states 'not recommended.' While this appears to be an outlier among otherwise favorable reviews, it reinforces that experiences are not uniformly positive and that there is variation in perceptions of dining, activity levels, and move-in provisioning. In sum, Ives Hill Retirement Community receives strong marks for cleanliness, staff attentiveness, care inclusion in monthly fees, and a warm, home-like environment. Key areas for prospective residents to investigate further during a tour are dinner menu quality, the daily activity schedule and whether it matches personal interests, the specifics of transportation services, and exactly what furnishings and linens are provided in a given apartment unit.

    About Ives Hill Retirement Community

Ives Hill Retirement Community sits in Watertown, New York, close to the Ives Hill golf course and near the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River, and they've got everything from apartments to duplexes and single-family patio homes, all designed for adults 62 and older who want maintenance-free living without the chores that come with owning a house, so things like lawn care and snow removal are taken care of for you. You'll find 18 private rooms in The Lodge at Ives Hill, plus private apartments with their own emergency call systems, and each place is made to feel comfortable and homelike, with features like full-size kitchens, cathedral ceilings, circle top windows, spacious closets, and attached garages in the patio-style homes, and if you'd rather be upstairs or downstairs, you won't have to worry because all living spaces are set on one level, which makes getting around pretty simple. Meals come three times a day, restaurant-style, with choices that include low or no salt and sugar, all cooked by professional chefs, and if you don't feel like coming out, you can get room service delivered right to your apartment, while there are also private dining rooms in case you want to celebrate a birthday or entertain visitors. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the community and parking for both residents and guests, so your friends and family won't have a problem stopping by, and the place is pet friendly, so you can bring your dog or cat with you, and that's something a lot of folks appreciate because pets really do become part of the family. The staff is trained, caring, and available any time, day or night, and there's help for daily needs like bathing, grooming, dressing, and keeping track of medicines for those who need it, but if you're more independent, you can live with as much or as little help as you want and still have access to social spaces like indoor parlors, an outdoor terrace right next to the golf course, and shared activity rooms. The community likes to keep folks busy, and there's a full-time activities director who sets up events, classes, and exercise programs-people can join in everything from stretching classes to social and educational events, plus special things like holiday parties and outings to local doctors, shopping centers, or other attractions since they schedule regular transportation as part of the service offered. You'll find devotional services both on-site and off-site, activities for physical and mental exercise, and family members and caregivers are always encouraged to take part in the community because being surrounded by people who care and who you care about can make a world of difference. They keep different styles of housing so people from all sorts of backgrounds-like engineers, homemakers, doctors, lawyers, and teachers-can personalize their space and feel at home, and with the Heritage family organization behind them, their focus stays on making life more comfortable and less stressful for people who are ready for a simpler way to live, and you'll find them all on Facebook too if you want to look up recent happenings.
