    Warm staff, unsafe care, billing

I had a mixed experience. The staff (especially the execs I dealt with) were warm, helpful and ran good activities; the rooms, courtyard and therapy/outings are nice and many areas are clean and homey. However, persistent understaffing, poor communication, unexpected extra charges and underwhelming dining were problems, and serious safety/cleanliness issues (falls, soiled linens, urine odor, ants, reports of a broken femur and little accountability) destroyed my trust. Memory care felt especially concerning. In short: great people and activities, but staffing, safety and billing problems are dealbreakers for me.

    About Brookdale Asheboro

Brookdale Asheboro sits at 514 Vision Dr in Asheboro, NC, and you'll notice the building is one story for easier walking, which helps folks with limited mobility get around without trouble, and the whole place runs as a rental property so there's no buying involved, just different apartment options like studios, one-bedrooms, or even two-bedrooms, some even come with kitchenettes. Residents get meals three times a day in a nice dining room with big round tables and soft lighting, and there's always staff nearby if anybody needs help with things like bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, or getting around the community, and there's someone on duty 24 hours a day for anything that comes up. The apartments have simple comforts like plush carpets, private bathrooms, cable TV, climate controls you can adjust yourself, kitchenettes in some units, and emergency call buttons. There's laundry and housekeeping, and maintenance workers handle repairs, so seniors don't have to worry about chores.

The community helps with medications, reminders, and even companion care for folks who need a little extra company, and care plans are adjusted for each person so nobody pays for stuff they don't use. Brookdale Asheboro offers both assisted living and more focused memory care services for people with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and there's a professional staff that's trained to handle the challenges that come with memory issues, which can include helping prevent wandering and managing confusion, and they'll set up activities and routines that help residents feel safe and engaged. There's therapy rooms, wellness programs, and counseling for folks who want it, along with regular recreational activities-board games, music, outings, hobbies, and spiritual services on site for those who like it. The lounge, library, courtyards with outdoor seats and flowers, walking paths, and community spaces give residents places to gather, get some fresh air, or read a large-print book. The building has Wi-Fi throughout, basic cable TV, and emergency call systems.

Pets are allowed, but big dogs can't live there, although visiting pets can come by, but taking care of a pet remains the owner's responsibility, so folks need to be sure they're up for that. For getting around, there's transportation for medical appointments or regular trips, and people with cars can use the parking lot. Seniors who need skilled nursing or continuing care can access those services, as Brookdale Asheboro is part of a larger continuum of care, and there's always a focus on keeping everybody safe with controlled access and emergency systems in place. The staff at Brookdale Asheboro have a reputation for being friendly and helpful, and the community is designed for older adults who want both independence and support, with programs and spaces to help make each day a bit easier and more enjoyable, and everybody can have their care and service needs tailored as those needs change.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
