    Caring clean memory care community

I'm very pleased with Terra Bella - the staff are genuinely caring, warm and friendly, greeting residents with smiles and hugs, and my mom has truly blossomed since moving in. The facility is clean and well-maintained, Memory Care is thoughtfully designed, and rooms are neat; they keep residents active with excellent activities, trips and nutritious meals while providing reliable help with meds, bathing, laundry and transitions. I feel confident and grateful - it's a safe, home-like community I'd happily recommend.

    Summary of reviews

TerraBella Shelby elicits broadly positive responses for its caregiving culture, amenities, and activity programming, with recurrent praise for warm, engaged staff and a home-like atmosphere. Families commonly describe attentive caregivers, hands-on support for daily needs, and staff who foster social connection through smiles, greeting interactions, and regular outreach. The memory-care neighborhood is consistently noted as secure and well designed, with an accessible outdoor garden and purposeful common spaces that support social and recreational engagement.

The facility's activity and services profile is a distinct strength: reviewers cite a varied calendar of hourly and seasonal activities (arts and crafts, baking, bingo, field trips), on-site medical and specialty visits (doctors, podiatrist, barber), salon services, laundry and housekeeping, and transport to medical appointments. Dining is generally seen as a positive feature — many families describe enjoyable meals, multiple choices, and accommodating dining options including in-room meals when needed. Move-in transitions are often described as smooth, and the property is maintained with an attractive, hotel-like presentation that many find welcoming.

Several operational patterns raise caution. Cleanliness and incontinence-care practices are a recurring concern for some families, described as odor-related and sanitation issues in parts of the facility; these accounts indicate a need for consistent incontinence protocols and enhanced attention to common-area sanitation. Communication and professionalism are uneven: while some families praise prompt updates and management responsiveness, others note lapses in phone responsiveness, curt staff interactions, or inconsistent follow-through. Staffing stability is also variable — there are mentions of recent turnover and changing assignments that can affect continuity of care.

Facility constraints and cost considerations are additional themes. A number of reviewers note that some rooms and the dining area feel small or cramped, and that private-room availability and room size vary by price tier. There are also comments about limited on-site rehabilitation/physical-therapy space and explicit limits on providing 24-hour skilled nursing care, which may affect suitability for residents with higher clinical needs. Financially, rising costs and separate supply charges contribute to affordability concerns for some families.

In sum, TerraBella Shelby presents as a well-appointed, activity-oriented community with many reports of compassionate staff and strong social programming. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against operational factors — especially sanitation/incontinence-care consistency, communication responsiveness, staffing stability, and the facility's clinical scope — and confirm room sizes, therapy resources, and cost structures during a tour and detailed care-service discussion.

    About TerraBella Shelby

TerraBella Shelby sits in Shelby, North Carolina, near the Blue Ridge Mountains, and goes about offering seniors both housing and several levels of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care through the SHINE® program, skilled nursing, adult day care, and even home care. The community features wide sidewalks, scenic walking paths, a community garden, and shaded patios with wooden pergolas, so folks can enjoy the outdoors with safety and comfort, and there's also a private courtyard for relaxing. Indoors, seniors find comfortable sitting areas with sturdy armchairs, end tables, and coffee tables, plus inviting common rooms with large TVs, a neatly kept reception space with a fireplace, and a well-stocked bookshelf for anyone who enjoys reading by the fire. The private bedrooms are made for comfort, with cozy beds, mounted TVs, accessible bathrooms with walk-in showers and grab bars, so getting around's easier for those who need it.

Dining's pleasant, with chef-prepared meals served three times a day in a bright dining room with modern lighting and tableside service, and snacks and dessert show up, too. There's a professional beauty salon and barber shop right on-site for those interested, and the cleaning staff handle housekeeping such as vacuuming, window washing, and dusting, letting residents focus on other things. The staff at TerraBella Shelby are described as respectful, helpful, joyful, and kind, creating a calm environment whether someone needs simple reminders for medication, help with bathing or dressing, or just a smile. Seniors receive care that matches their needs, and medical services are available with registered nurses around the clock and an emergency response system in place.

TerraBella Shelby welcomes pets and provides complimentary transportation for medical visits, shopping, or outings, which gets people where they need to go without worry. Their schedule's full of programs and activities, like arts and crafts, group fitness classes, music shows, visits from Elvis impersonators, DJ parties, and piano performances to help everyone stay engaged, and there are even religious services on site for those who want them. The community organizes a military veterans program, sensory and cognitive support for memory care residents, and support for early-stage dementia, with secure memory care units and structured routines to help reduce confusion and keep people safe. People can come for short-term stays, ranging from 14 to 29 days, or settle in longer, joining a fuss-free community with amenities that encourage dignity and social connections. The continuing care approach means residents can age in place, moving between care levels as needs change, all within one location. Meals and activities are tailored for a mix of independence and support, and the community prioritizes making life easier, safer, and a bit brighter for seniors each day.
