    Attentive professional staff and amenities

I'm very pleased with my experience. Staff-from nurses and therapists to dining, housekeeping and social work-were attentive, kind and professional; PT/OT and wound care were thorough. The food is restaurant-quality, the campus is beautiful and spotless with an on-site chapel and daily mass, and helpful administration plus convenient hospital access gave us peace of mind; I'd happily recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Saint Therese at St. Mary of the Woods presents a mixed picture in these reviews. Many families and residents praise the facility’s physical environment, spiritual life, and therapy capabilities: the campus is frequently described as bright, well maintained, and comfortable, with attractive common spaces, a chapel with regular services, and a variety of amenities (salon, bistro, library, cafe). Activity programming and cultural offerings — musical performances, orchestra visits, exercise classes, and social outings — are recurring strengths, contributing to a sense of community and engagement for many residents.

Clinical and caregiving strengths are also commonly cited. Reviewers highlight compassionate nurses and aides, responsive social-work and pastoral support, and strong rehabilitation teams (physical and occupational therapy) that have helped residents recover and discharge successfully. The facility’s ability to accommodate specific clinical needs, such as enteral feeding support, and the presence of knowledgeable therapists and attentive nursing staff are notable positives for families seeking skilled short-term rehab or continuing-care support.

Alongside those positives, there are consistent operational concerns that recur across reviews. Staffing levels and coverage emerge as a primary issue: delayed responses to call lights, long waits for assistance with bathing or toileting, and variable availability of CNAs and nurses are described. These staffing inconsistencies link to other operational weaknesses — inconsistent hygiene and linen practices, slow medication delivery or documentation gaps, and uneven meal-service execution. Several reviewers described instances that reflect broader safety and monitoring gaps (including falls and subsequent hospitalizations), and some families raised concerns about the facility’s incident-response processes and family notification practices.

Management and culture appear variable over time and between units. Some accounts describe attentive, professional leadership and helpful reception/administrative staff; others point to administrative delays (admission and discharge paperwork, billing/extra-charge practices), perceived prioritization of revenue, and uneven enforcement of staff conduct. Communication — both between shifts and with families — is a recurrent challenge: unclear handoffs, inconsistent updates, and difficulties getting timely explanations for care decisions were noted.

Dining and hospitality receive mixed ratings. Many reviewers praise made-to-order meals, restaurant-quality presentations, and supportive dining staff; other accounts cite inconsistent food quality, meal delivery issues, and surprise charges for dining services. Cleanliness and housekeeping are often lauded for common areas and weekly room cleaning, but isolated sanitation and linen-care concerns were reported in resident rooms and during busy staffing periods.

In sum, Saint Therese offers strong environmental amenities, spiritual programming, and effective therapy/rehab services for many residents. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against recurring operational concerns: staffing consistency, response times, safety monitoring, and communication practices. For families considering this facility, direct conversations with leadership about staffing ratios, fall-prevention protocols, bathing schedules, medication administration procedures, and billing policies are advisable, along with regular in-person check-ins during initial stays to confirm care expectations are being met.

About Saint Therese at St. Mary of the Woods

Saint Therese at St. Mary of the Woods sits in Avon and offers several types of living choices-there are 81 independent living units for folks who want to live on their own but with some support nearby, along with 48 assisted living units and 30 nursing care units for people who may need more daily help or skilled care, so families can find a spot that fits what they need or might need later on, and the community keeps a steady service day and night with lay staff available 24/7 and secured building access for safety. Meals are available in a main dining room, Bistro, outdoor patio, or delivered to rooms, so residents have flexibility, and there are plenty of spots to gather like a spacious lobby with warm lighting, Wi-Fi-equipped libraries, comfy sitting areas on the main floor, walking paths, club rooms, and places for events or personal reflection, and you'll find a fitness center, indoor parking, scheduled transportation, housekeeping, and laundry to make life a little easier for everybody, plus a salon and barber shop and access to physician services and wellness centers to help folks stay well-groomed and looked after. The chapel is a key part of life here, with mass six days a week, a full library, and ongoing opportunities for spiritual support with onsite sacraments and pastoral care that includes spiritual counseling for residents of any faith, along with support groups to keep everyone connected and comforted during rough patches, so spiritual needs don't fall by the wayside no matter your background or circumstances. Rehabilitation, long-term care, respite stays, and transitional care are all part of the care setup, and a sister community provides memory care, skilled nursing, home health care, hospice, and palliative care if conditions change and more help is needed in the future, trying to cover a full range of care under one umbrella, and the place focuses on a holistic approach, saying they want to nurture the mind, body, and soul, and they do so with a range of programs to keep folks engaged and purposeful-everything from planned community events to quieter moments along the walking paths for prayer or alone time, and there are plenty of ways to participate, whether you prefer social groups, spiritual growth or independent pursuits. Residents say the staff is friendly and helpful, and reviews average a 7.5 out of 10 across 17 responses, which shows a generally positive experience with room for improvement, and the building is managed by Franciscan Communities, a division of Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, who say they focus on respect and honoring everyone's individuality, offering service in a respectful, warm, and understanding environment where active and less active seniors alike find what they need.
