    Consistently friendly, caring, professional staff

My family and I are very satisfied with Highbanks - the staff are consistently friendly, caring and professional, the facility is clean and well-kept, and administration and nursing are engaged and knowledgeable. Rehab and activities have been proactive and helpful, the food is good, and Grandma Jo loves it, so we feel she's in compassionate, capable hands and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for this facility present a polarized picture: many families describe caring, competent clinical and therapy staff, an active activities program, and a smaller, personable environment, while other accounts highlight operational and safety concerns. Strengths cited include a proactive rehabilitation team, an activities director who solicits resident input, regular outings, helpful social work involvement, and examples of individual caregivers and managers who receive strong praise. Several families also described the facility as clean, well-kept, and comfortable, and noted that respite and short-term stays were available and effective.

Care quality appears inconsistent across shifts and units. Positive feedback emphasizes attentive nurses who respond to call lights and a rehab program focused on returning residents to higher function. In contrast, other reports indicate delays in assistance, occasional unresponsiveness to nurse calls, and at least one serious safety incident that reviewers associated with lapses in incident response. There are also recurring concerns about medication management and clinical oversight, including questions about effectiveness and possible medication practices. Prospective families should verify current staffing patterns, medication review processes, and incident-response protocols.

Staffing and workplace culture are mixed themes. Many reviewers praise dedicated, long-tenured staff and individual caregivers who provide compassionate, family-like care. At the same time, there are complaints about inconsistent professionalism (such as lack of nametags and casual conduct), managerial tone, and reports of workplace-culture issues that may affect staff morale and documentation practices. Communication with families also appears uneven: some relatives describe thorough, proactive managers and good coordination, whereas others describe unhelpful administrative responses and difficulty resolving complaints.

Dining and infection-control observations are similarly divided. Some residents gained weight and enjoyed meals, and several families complimented kitchen staff. Other accounts describe inconsistent food quality and specific food-handling concerns that suggest gaps in infection-control practices. Sanitation and odor concerns in certain common or resident areas were raised by multiple reviewers; there were also mentions of pest-control concerns and of privacy breaches related to documentation handling. These point to areas where environmental services and confidential-records practices may require attention.

Activities and facilities receive more consistently positive comments: an expanding activities program, regular outings, exercise classes, and creative group programs were noted. The building is described by many as smaller and personable, with comfortable rooms, individual showers, outdoor viewing areas, and attractive landscaping. However, the positive descriptions coexist with critical observations about cleanliness and housekeeping inconsistencies in parts of the facility.

Management and oversight show signs of transition. Several reviews reference recent leadership change and new administrators being praised for improvements, while other accounts criticize prior or current administrative responsiveness and professionalism. The pattern suggests variable leadership impact across time; families considering placement should ask about recent turnover, current administrator and director-of-nursing tenure, and how patient-safety and complaint processes are handled.

Notable patterns for prospective families: the facility can offer strong rehabilitation services, engaged activity options, and compassionate individual caregivers, but these strengths are not uniformly experienced. Important topics to assess during a visit include observable cleanliness and odor control, staff identification and professionalism, response time to call lights, medication review and clinical oversight processes, food-handling practices, security of personal belongings, and how the facility documents and communicates about incidents. Reviewing the latest state inspection findings and speaking directly with current families may help clarify whether the facility’s operational gaps have been addressed under its current leadership.

    About Highbanks Care Center

Highbanks Care Center sits over on Lazelle Road in Columbus, Ohio, and has 56 beds in a secure facility where they offer both short-term rehab and long-term care with skilled nursing available around the clock, so folks get help no matter the time, and you'll find registered nurses, licensed therapists, and dietitians on their team, which is led by Foundations Health Solutions, and they tend to focus on each person's needs and choices, letting residents pick their own times to wake, eat, bathe, and go to therapy, which is something you don't often see in care centers. The place provides all sorts of services like assisted living, independent living, memory care, nursing home care, home care, respite care, continuing care, personal assistance, and adult care, and they're one of the few places around Columbus to focus so much on person-centered care. Residents can get hospice and palliative care, with extra comfort and symptom support for serious or life-limiting illnesses, plus mental health treatment for things such as dementia, depression, sleep issues, and more, so they help with both physical and mental challenges. Therapy services are all on-site, so there's physical therapy for strength and movement, occupational therapy for daily activities after an illness or hospital stay, and speech therapy for swallowing or talking problems, available every day of the week, and there's a therapy gym where people can go to unwind and work with therapists. They help people recover from strokes, give support after surgeries, work on cardiovascular issues, and offer both nutritional support and surgical recovery help, too. They've also got doctors coming in for dental, hearing, and foot care as part of MedONE Physicians Services, plus a concierge service and help for anyone who needs Medicaid application assistance. Meals come out in a restaurant-style dining room with a homelike feel, the rooms are spacious and have modern TVs, and there are communal spaces for residents to make friends, join activities, or head outside to get some sun and fresh air. Highbanks Care Center has beauty services to help residents feel good, hosts a range of activities for fun and socializing, and encourages engagement so folks can feel fulfilled and connected to others. Tours are offered, so anyone who's interested can come by, meet the staff, and see what daily life looks like in this community rooted in Ohio, where respect, comfort, and personal dignity are part of their "Culture of Care."
