    Warm attentive staff; resident-focused care

I'm very pleased with this community - the staff are warm, attentive, and treated my loved one like family. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and welcoming; orientation and admission info were thorough and helpful. Hospice and nursing care were compassionate and responsive, events keep residents engaged, and I gladly recommend this place for its caring, resident-focused team.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center present a strongly mixed picture. Many families and staff highlight individual caregivers — particularly nursing aides and some nurses — as compassionate, attentive, and able to provide comfort and dignity, especially during end-of-life care. Several accounts praise the administrator and admissions/HR personnel for being responsive and helpful. The facility also receives positive remarks for its activity programming, community events, and an overall welcoming atmosphere that can support resident engagement and staff satisfaction.

Counterbalancing these positives are consistent operational concerns. The building and resident rooms are described as aging, with maintenance deficits that contribute to cleanliness and odor concerns in some areas. Dining is another frequent issue: reviewers point to inconsistent food quality and instances in which meal service continuity was disrupted. These facility-level problems appear to affect daily life and resident satisfaction.

Clinical care and care coordination show variability. Multiple reviewers describe delayed or inadequate rehabilitation therapy and missed opportunities for therapy progression, as well as gaps in clinical monitoring and nursing follow-up. Families reported falls and other safety events that suggest weaknesses in transfer and handling practices and in the facility’s incident-response and hospital-transfer processes. There are also concerns about documentation and privacy practices, and some reviewers describe difficulties with discharge planning and insurance communication.

Professionalism and security raise separate concerns. While many front-line staff are praised, other accounts describe inconsistent staff conduct and communication tone, plus lapses in property controls that have led to allegations of missing personal items and financial irregularities. Administrative responsiveness is variable in these cases: some families describe an open, helpful administration, while others report poor transparency and contested decisions around transfers or restricted contact.

Overall, prospective residents and families should weigh two patterns: strong micro-level caregiving from particular staff members and effective hospice/comfort care, versus facility-level operational weaknesses in maintenance, meal service, therapy provision, clinical monitoring, and property controls. If considering this facility, ask targeted questions about current maintenance plans, therapy staffing and schedules, clinical-monitoring protocols, property-security measures, and examples of family communication during incidents. A visit during a meal and a conversation with the therapy and nursing leads may help assess how well the facility’s operational practices match the positive staff experiences some families described.

About Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center sits over on 117 Jacob Parrot Rd in Kenton, Ohio, and you'll find it's been serving the community for several years now, run by a healthcare-focused team under new management that tries to make things as comfortable as possible for those who need care, whether it's short-term after an illness or surgery, or for those staying long-term because their needs have changed, and it's got 125 beds, including 14 private rooms and 50 semi-private rooms, so folks can find a space that fits them whether they're coming alone or with a partner since the place also lets couples stay together if needed. The center offers skilled nursing round the clock, handled by physicians, social workers, and nutritionists, and it also provides medication management, help with daily activities, and all the different therapies like physical, occupational, and speech therapy right on site, especially for those working to regain strength or get back home. The Rehabilitation Center pays close attention to those living with Alzheimer's or dementia, with care plans tailored to every resident, and there's palliative and respite care as options too, which helps if a family caregiver needs a break for a bit or if someone needs a place just for a little while. There's also specialized hemodialysis for those dealing with kidney problems, and amenities like an outdoor garden, patio, a beauty/barber shop, and rooms where group movies, crafts, and all sorts of discussion groups and brain teasers happen regularly, mixing in trips out, arts and crafts, gardening, movies, special visiting performers, and some nice intergenerational programs that connect people from different age groups. The environment tries to feel like home and there's pastoral support, transportation to appointments, and wellness and activity programs designed to keep residents busy in both body and mind, and the staff puts together individualized care plans without making things too complicated or one-size-fits-all. The center is both Medicare- and Medicaid-certified, and it's received a 3.4 out of 5 star rating from 28 reviews, which gives a realistic idea of what to expect, and while the place has resources like an LTC glossary and expert guidance for long-term care and caregiving, it also leans on its connection with the AOM Family for additional support, so anyone interested can always learn more by visiting their website at www.kentonnursingandrehab.com to check out details or browse the virtual map location.
