    Compassionate memory-care with engaging activities

I placed my father at Artis of Mason and have been very pleased - compassionate, attentive staff treat residents like family and communicate promptly. The Life Enrichment team runs creative, engaging activities and daily celebrations, and the clean, secure neighborhoods and lovely outdoor areas give us real peace of mind. Leadership is responsive and the memory-care expertise has been excellent - I'd recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Artis Senior Living of Mason is described by many families as a clean, well-maintained memory-care community with a strong emphasis on social engagement and a family-like culture. Strengths repeatedly highlighted include compassionate, attentive staff; robust life-enrichment programming (music, trivia, crafts, daily celebrations); thoughtfully designed small neighborhoods with dedicated dining and activity spaces; and secure outdoor areas and walking paths that support resident mobility and freedom of movement. Housekeeping, meal preparation, and general day-to-day routines are frequently characterized as attentive and detail-oriented, and leadership presence and scheduled family conferences are viewed positively by many families.

Clinical and caregiving quality presents a mixed picture. Reviewers often praise hands-on caregivers, nurses, and dementia specialists for compassionate care and for stabilizing or improving residents' social engagement. At the same time, there are recurring comments about inconsistent dementia-specific training among some aides and variability in clinical follow-through — including concerns about adherence to physician instructions and medication practices. Several accounts indicate the community is particularly well suited for residents with advanced memory impairment, while families seeking care for medically unstable or high-acuity needs may find the clinical capacity limited.

Operationally, the facility has both strengths and areas requiring attention. Many reviewers commend stable leadership, low management turnover, and frequent communication with families through quarterly care conferences. Conversely, reviewers describe uneven staffing continuity related to use of agency personnel and occasional high turnover among frontline caregivers, which can affect consistency of care. There are also notable concerns around billing transparency and how level-of-care charges are determined; prospective residents’ families would be prudent to ask for clear documentation of charge structures and care-level assessments.

A small number of serious incidents reported by families — including an infection-control event that resulted in escalation to a regulatory complaint — have raised questions about the facility’s infection-control and pest-control protocols. Relatedly, the physical layout includes shared hallway showers and limited in-room private bathing options for some rooms, which some families viewed as an infection-risk factor. While many praised the cleanliness and upkeep, portions of the building and interior finishes were described as dated.

Overall, Artis of Mason appears to offer strong dementia-focused social programming, a compassionate staff culture, and a secure, engaging environment for residents with memory-care needs. However, families should assess clinical capacity for higher-acuity needs, request details on staff training programs (especially dementia-specific training), clarify billing and charge practices, and inquire about infection-control policies and bathing arrangements during a tour. These targeted questions will help determine whether the community’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s clinical and personal needs.

About Artis Senior Living of Mason

Artis Senior Living of Mason sits in a quiet neighborhood northeast of Cincinnati and is made for people with dementia who need memory care and daily help, and you'll find a purpose-built community on 4.5 acres, with secure outdoor courtyards, walking paths, and over 10,000 square feet of safe indoor space, so folks can explore without getting lost. Residents live in smaller neighborhoods, which helps them feel less overwhelmed and more at ease, and staff members know everyone's preferences, interests, and life history, which helps them offer calm, person-centered care every day. Trained caregivers and nurses, along with a doctor on call, watch over the community day and night, and emergency call systems in every suite let residents get help quickly when they need it. The staff uses safety technology, like bracelets, to keep wanderers from leaving the grounds, and they welcome people with complicated needs, including those who might wander or display difficult behaviors, and they know how to help people who struggle with physical or behavioral challenges.

People with diabetes, both Type 1 and 2, can get help with blood sugar checks and medication-though the staff can't do insulin injections-and those with incontinence get discreet care right in their suites, even for total support. Rooms are private or shared, with large windows for sunlight, individual controls for heating and cooling, and barrier-free bathrooms with grab bars, making it easier for folks with mobility concerns or who use wheelchairs, and the community's low aide-to-resident ratio gives each person more personal attention. The Artis Way, their core way of working, means they develop a custom care plan for each resident, involving that person, their family, and their doctor, and they try to honor each person's past while making today as good as it can be. They help with bathing, grooming, dressing, and moving around, provide medication reminders, and even manage complex medication schedules for people who take lots of pills and vitamins.

Daily routines are important here, so there's a set rhythm that includes three dietitian-approved meals and snacks, served with family-style dining, and residents can even help pick recipes through "Time to Dish" so meals feel familiar and enjoyable, and they offer all sorts of special diets for people who need less sugar, no gluten, or other changes, and you'll find both vegan and regular menus on hand. Memory care programs use art, music, reminiscence activities, sensory exercises, and brain games to keep minds active, and there's a full-time activity director planning music, storytelling, craft workshops in the arts studio, group fitness in the wellness center, pet therapy, faith services, and even building projects in the workshop or creating a children's library. The Town Center brings people together for gatherings, live music, celebrations, and parties, and they host intergenerational visits with kids and trips to places like Kings Island, local churches, or the mall.

Residents can walk outside safely in the gardens, relax in sun-filled lounges, visit the game room and library, or get their hair done in the salon or barbershop, and you'll see staff encourage residents-no matter their ability-to join in, stay active, and find purpose. People who move in for short stays, often for respite, get access to all the same services, and the staff keeps families updated with regular meetings, support groups, and a dedicated director for community data. There's weekly cleaning, laundry, transportation for doctor appointments and outings, 24-hour supervision, and health monitoring by licensed nurses. Residents can bring their own furniture, keepsakes, and photographs to make their room feel like home, and each area uses calm colors and soft furniture for comfort.

Artis Senior Living of Mason only admits people who need memory care or some assisted living support, and they have a separate building for people living with Alzheimer's or more serious kinds of dementia, and they're able to care for people who need mobility lifts or two-person transfers. Care fees depend on needs, and there are extra charges for greater care or respite stays, with studio room rates averaging $5,895 per month. The staff knows how to help people with brain changes live with dignity, and they focus on helping each resident stay connected, feel valued, and find moments of joy throughout their days. The facility welcomes pets, has Wi-Fi, easy access for people using wheelchairs, and offers hospice when needed, so folks can stay in one place even as their needs change, and it's just minutes from top hospitals, shopping, and local attractions like the tennis center and amusement park.
