    Kind staff, clean facility, happy

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased. The staff are kind, respectful and genuinely attentive; everyone from aides to admin is helpful. The rooms and common areas are very clean, the grounds are nice, and the large dining room serves excellent, plentiful meals. There are plenty of activities (Wii bowling, bingo, happy hour), transportation is available, and residents seem happy-overall a very good, accommodating place that fits our needs.

    Summary of reviews

Middleburg Heights Assisted Living is described by reviewers as a community with consistently positive interpersonal and environmental strengths alongside several operational and policy issues that prospective residents should assess.

Care and staff: Families and residents commonly describe staff as friendly, attentive, and respectful. Multiple comments point to engagement across roles — care staff, activities staff, and dining staff — and an overall sense that residents are treated with courtesy. The general impression is of a supportive day-to-day care environment; however, there are recurring remarks about gaps in management responsiveness and communication that could affect follow-up on concerns or billing questions.

Dining: Dining is frequently highlighted as a strength. Reviewers praise food quality and the size of servings, and many note that residents enjoy meals. The facility offers a large, shared dining area and a spacious cafeteria setting. A potential downside is that portion sizes can be excessive for some residents and there is limited indication that portions are consistently tailored to individual dietary needs or appetites.

Activities and social life: The community provides a range of activities — examples cited include Wii bowling, bingo, happy hour, arts-and-crafts, and daily programming — and reviewers report that residents participate and appear content. Activities staff are described as engaged and accommodating, and transportation services are available to support outings and appointments, contributing to perceived value.

Facilities and accommodations: Room descriptions emphasize spacious apartments and clean common spaces; many reviewers find units adequate and neat. At the same time, the property is characterized as somewhat older, with variable condition in parts of the building. Several apartments lack full kitchen facilities, which is important for prospective residents who expect in-suite cooking. The tour/admissions experience has been described as underwhelming by some visitors, suggesting the facility could strengthen how it presents its physical condition and services during visits.

Management and operations: Operationally, the most notable concerns center on billing/payment-process problems and uneven responsiveness from management when families seek clarification or resolution. A specific policy-related constraint is a two-week minimum for respite stays, which some families find restrictive. These administrative and policy issues contrast with generally positive commentary about frontline staff and the resident experience.

Recommendations: Prospective residents and families should prioritize an in-person tour and ask targeted questions about unit features (including kitchen availability), portion customization and dietary accommodations, the facility’s maintenance plan for older areas, respite-stay flexibility, and billing procedures. Also request examples of how management handles family communication and follow-up on concerns. Overall, the facility appears to offer strong daily care, clean environments, active programming, and good dining — balanced against administrative and facility-condition items worth clarifying before move-in.

    About Middleburg Heights Assisted Living

Middleburg Heights Assisted Living sits in the rolling bluffs of the Great Lakes region and has a Greek-revival style with bright white pillars, brick walls, and big divided-pane windows, so everything feels open with natural light, and there's a nice view outside where you see old gardens, walking paths, and places for sitting or strolling with your dog if you want since they allow pets, and you can find outside gardens and walking areas plus a boardwalk at the nearby Big Creek Reservation that makes it easy to get fresh air or watch birds. This is a privately-owned place that started in 2023 after being purchased from Paramount Senior Living, and the executive director is Ben Jiraben, who oversees day-to-day things. The community has a residential feeling, and they work hard to give as much dignity, independence, and privacy as possible with a home-like atmosphere, but they're still built on a medical model, so you have skilled nursing, licensed on-site nurses, and supportive staff available around the clock, which works well for someone who needs high acuity care or help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, therapy, or memory support.

Residents can pick from private or companion suites, all with full baths, different floor plans, kitchenettes, and Wi-Fi, along with emergency call response systems in every suite for safety, and there's cable or satellite TV if you want to watch shows. The community covers different levels of care, like independent living, assisted living, dementia care in the Memory Care unit, home health, and hospice care, plus adult day care and respite care for short-term stays with a two-week minimum, so there's some flexibility if you just want to stay a little while or need extra help. They do an assessment before move-in and then check on changing needs with time, looking at things like personal hygiene, grooming, eating, social engagement, mobility, safety, and any memory care needs, which means they keep care plans up-to-date with what someone needs, and a team of healthcare professionals are here all day, every day.

The main building's got an elegant dining room, a private dining area for guests, media and living rooms, a library, a large porch with sitting areas, and a game room for unwinding, playing cards, or doing crafts when the mood is right. Meals come in a restaurant-style setting, and there's a café on-site for snacks or coffee breaks, plus they offer communal dining if you want to socialize during meals. Housekeeping, laundry, and linen service are included, and there's guest parking if family or friends come by. Other amenities include a beauty barbershop and salon services, along with a health and fitness center that has treadmills, bicycles, and other equipment for wellness programs and daily fitness, so there are plenty of options to stay active and feel your best. They hold social, educational, and spiritual programs, activities like bingo, crafts, music, Bible study, games, exercise, and social gatherings so people can stay engaged and make new friends.

Transportation is available for medical appointments and shopping trips, and there are scheduled social outings into the neighborhood, which has nearby parks, Southwest Family Physicians, and places like CVS Pharmacy, so you don't feel cut off from the community. The facility's all-inclusive rates cover most services, and there's a $1,500 entry fee, but they do accept checks and Medicaid, which opens doors for more people, and all the basic services and amenities are part of the rate. Safety features include fire safety systems, door alarms, and monitored entry, creating a secure environment for everyone, especially folks dealing with memory loss or dementia. Rooms come with durable medical gear if someone needs a hospital bed, walker, or commode, while staff help with daily activities, memory care, wound care, medication, and diabetic management, and therapists provide physical, occupational, or speech therapy right here.

Tours are welcome, and staff encourage families to come see the place to get a feel for the environment, which some people find comforting, and the building's close to medical centers and nestled in a nice location in the Cleveland metropolitan area. Everyone tries to make sure the facility runs as a genuine, caring home, where the goal is to help each resident feel respected, supported, and as independent as possible while meeting whatever medical or daily needs come up with friendly, trained staff always around.
