    Bright rooms and attentive staff

I had a very positive experience here. My mother-in-law enjoyed a bright, spacious private room with its own bath and small sitting/dining area - clean, comfortable and homier than most. Staff were kind, attentive and quick to respond (Kathy and Golden stood out), the rehab, menu, gym and pool were helpful, and administration/ownership were top notch; I would recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Golden Age Nursing Home elicits a mix of positive experiences and serious operational concerns. Many reviewers highlight a warm, homelike environment, consistent praise for individual caregivers, and effective short-term rehabilitation outcomes. Commonly noted strengths include roomy private accommodations with en-suite bathrooms, bright and well-maintained public and private spaces, appealing dining options, and on-site amenities such as a gym and swimming pool. Several accounts emphasize helpful, attentive staff and strong administrative leadership, and some families report that residents enjoy their stays and would recommend the facility.

Care quality and staffing are described unevenly. Numerous reviews praise compassionate, attentive staff and specific caregivers by name, and successful rehab stays were reported. However, other accounts raise concerns about inconsistent staff conduct, variable responsiveness across shifts, and issues with communication tone toward residents and families. There are also serious allegations about staff behavior that some reviewers feel warrant investigation. Taken together, these statements suggest variability in day-to-day caregiving practices and the need for stronger, consistent staff training and oversight.

Infection control, sanitation, and air-quality issues emerge as distinct areas of concern. Some reviewers described inadequate sanitization or potential COVID exposure due to room placement and cohorting choices; these comments indicate gaps in infection-containment protocols and cleaning practices that should be addressed. Separately, several reviewers reported strong ambient chemical or deodorizer odors lingering on clothing and in common areas, and advised improved ventilation and reduced use of heavy chemical fragrances to reduce respiratory risk for residents with asthma, COPD, or allergies.

Facilities and amenities are generally seen as assets: private, spacious rooms near dining, pleasant decor, and well-kept common areas. Families appreciated private suite-style layouts that reduce crowding and provide a homier feel. Dining and menu quality received positive remarks, as did Medicare acceptance. Cost transparency was less clear; one reviewer found pricing consistent with peers but overall affordability details were not broadly described.

Overall patterns point to a facility with meaningful strengths in environment, amenities, and committed staff members, alongside operational weaknesses that could impact resident safety and comfort if not addressed. Key areas for management attention are consistent infection-control practices and cohorting, air-quality and chemical-use policies, standardized staff conduct and responsiveness, and transparent communication about costs. Prospective residents and families would benefit from a focused conversation with management on these topics, and from asking about recent infection-control audits, ventilation improvements, staff training programs, and mechanisms for investigating serious conduct concerns.

    About Golden Age Nursing Home

Golden Age Nursing Home sits in Guthrie, OK, and has served the community for over sixty years through three generations as a family-owned and operated facility, offering a home-like place for seniors needing skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and both short-term or long-term care. The facility holds 125 certified beds, with 10 available as of June 2025, and accepts both Medicare and Medicaid, also offering help with insurance reimbursements and private pay options, along with assistance for residents applying for Medicaid with guidelines set by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Nurses provide 12- to 16-hour daily care plus round-the-clock supervision, a 24-hour emergency call system, and help with bathing, dressing, medication management, transferring, and other daily routines. Residents with significant health needs, those recovering from illness, surgery, or hospital stays, or individuals requiring ongoing medical attention get support from a team of licensed nurses, nursing assistants, and in-house therapists. The staff helps with wound care, IV treatments, injections, and monitoring of chronic conditions, keeping close contact with doctors and families whenever there's a change in health.

The home features rooms with adjustable beds, private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, kitchenettes, and supports those using walkers or wheelchairs, with choices of private or shared rooms, and emergency call systems in each room for added safety. The facility provides meals made by a chef, taking allergies or diabetic needs into account, with all-day dining and restaurant-style service. Large dining rooms invite residents together for meals, while cozy social rooms let them visit with family or relax. Housekeeping, laundry, and move-in coordination are included as part of everyday services.

Rehabilitation is a daily offering, with physical, speech, and occupational therapy led by long-time staff members for a sense of continuity, and a wellness center includes a warm water pool for therapy sessions. The on-site beauty salon and barbershop provide haircuts and nail care free of extra fees. There's also a focus on creative and active enjoyment, with art and game rooms, a library, a spa/wellness space, movie theater, and outdoor spaces that include gardens and walking paths. Community and resident-run programs fill the schedule with fitness groups, movie nights, music, and inter-generational activities-like a Pre-K program that brings young children and seniors together. Transportation and parking help keep people mobile and independent, and the staff supports families with resources and consistent personal attention.

Residents gain access to skilled nursing, rehab care, and support for both physical or mental health conditions. Golden Age Nursing Home has no current public reviews posted and continues to operate under state license and certification as a for-profit limited liability company. The focus remains on treating every resident with dignity, respect, and personal care, working with their doctors, their pharmacies, and their families to help them feel as comfortable as possible in a safe, nurturing environment.
