    Compassionate personalized care spotless facility

I'm very pleased with the compassionate, professional staff - nurses and caregivers like Aaron, Kayla and leaders Heather and Judy are responsive and hands-on. The facility is spotless, bright, secure and roomy, with a nice dining room, outdoor sitting areas and an active calendar (bingo, puzzles). Care feels personalized and family-like, with 24-hour attention that improved my loved one's well-being.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews describe The Lakes as a facility with many operational strengths alongside recurring operational weaknesses. Strengths commonly noted include a compassionate, family-like culture, visible on-site leadership, and a cohesive interdisciplinary team that includes nursing, CNAs, therapy, and dietary staff. Multiple comments highlight attentive 24-hour care, responsive nursing call systems, and a sense that caregivers treat residents with warmth and respect.

Care quality and clinical services: The facility receives repeated praise for hands-on caregiving, skilled dementia care, and availability of hospice support. Families described improvements in resident independence and well-being tied to personalized care plans and coordinated therapy. At the same time, several accounts raise concerns that the community may not be consistently equipped to manage very advanced-stage dementia needs; families considering placement for late-stage cognitive impairment should verify clinical capabilities and staffing ratios specific to those needs.

Staff and management: Many reviewers singled out individual staff and leaders for positive influence, and overall leadership was described as strong and helpful by numerous families. However, a clear pattern of variable staff professionalism and communication tone appears in parallel: while many staff are described as informative and welcoming, other interactions were characterized as unprofessional or discourteous. Additionally, there are repeated references to inconsistent follow-through from administrative and case-management staff, and reports of long waits or unclear decisions during the admissions process. Prospective families should ask about the facility's admissions workflow, case-management responsibilities, and escalation policies.

Dining and nutrition: Dining spaces and meal service receive largely favorable comments โ€” pleasant dining rooms, nutrition education efforts, and no widespread complaints about food quality. Families and a local nurse practitioner praised the dining environment and meal-related supports.

Activities and social environment: The activity program is a frequently cited strength. Reviewers mentioned a robust calendar of events, including bingo, puzzles, and special dinners, and described the atmosphere as bright and engaging rather than institutional. The physical environment โ€” described as sunny, well-decorated, and architecturally pleasant โ€” supports social engagement, with outdoor seating and accessible common spaces.

Facilities and safety: The facility is generally described as clean and well-maintained, with roomy rooms and a pleasing aesthetic. There are safety measures in place such as controlled entry. However, several operational safety concerns emerged as patterns rather than isolated complaints: gaps in incident reporting and family notification, and weaknesses in controls for resident personal property and belongings. There are also mentions of administrative policies perceived as rigid or outdated; prospective families should review the facilityโ€™s policies on visitation, waiting lists, and emergency communication.

Notable patterns and recommended checks: The Lakes presents as a community with strong caregiving culture and solid programming, but reviewers point to inconsistent administrative practices and variable staff conduct in some interactions. There are also isolated but serious-sounding claims about missing personal items and lapses in incident communication; these have been summarized as allegations and indicate areas to investigate further. Visitors touring the facility should ask specific questions about admissions timelines and criteria, case-management responsibilities, staff training and supervision, incident-notification procedures, property-security measures, and the facilityโ€™s capacity to manage advanced dementia. Doing so will help families weigh the facilityโ€™s clear strengths against the operational concerns that have been raised.

    About The Lakes

The Lakes sits near Lake Hefner, so the area feels calm and quiet, and there's Lakeside Living where seniors stay close to nature. The place has different kinds of care for older people, including assisted living, independent living, long-term care, and memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's. The Lakes Care Center has rooms that can be private or shared depending on what a person needs, and they secure the area with locks to prevent residents from wandering off if that's a concern. Residents with memory loss can join Alzheimer's special activities and programs, and the caregivers stay on-site around the clock. Nurses, therapists, and physicians check on the residents often, handling daily care like bathing, dressing, help with showering, and making sure special diets for things like high blood pressure or diabetes get followed. They've got transportation for doctor visits, church, shopping, and outings, while things like physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy happen with licensed therapists. The Lakes offers a wide range of activities, including music therapy, pet therapy, movie watching, tabletop games, and creative programs, and there's a book room, fitness space, spa, hairdresser, garden areas, and community spaces for group night events or just relaxing. The memory care unit stays locked and supervised, and caregivers pay close attention to any changes in health or behavior. Rates for memory care begin at about $4,500 per month, and prices depend on the room and the care someone needs. Oversight comes from the Oklahoma Department of Social Services for memory care licensing, so standards get followed. You can set up a scheduled tour or even take a virtual walkthrough if coming in isn't easy. The staff includes nurses, CNAs, a Director of Nursing, and an administrator who watches over everything, and consultant care means a pharmacy and diet expert look at patient needs too, so everyone tries to stay as healthy as possible in a comfortable community.
