I moved my grandpa here and we're very pleased. Staff and management are friendly, helpful and clearly trained for medical and ADL support - residents are smiling and engaged. Meals are above standard with good choices, the community is clean, well kept, active, and staff spend time answering questions. Scenic Astoria location close to town and dining, with comfortable studio, one- and two-bedroom options.

    Summary of reviews

Clatsop Care Retirement Village presents as a relatively new, well-kept community in the Astoria area with scenic views and convenient proximity to town amenities. Multiple comments emphasize the facility’s clean interior and updated finishes, comfortable studio and one-bedroom units, and an engaged resident community. The physical plant and grounds generally receive positive mentions for upkeep and presentation.

Care quality and direct staff interactions are described in mixed terms. Many accounts highlight friendly, helpful caregivers and staff who are involved with residents, with staff trained to provide medical assistance and ADL support. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns tied to staffing: reviewers mention high turnover and periods of understaffing that can affect continuity of care and daily responsiveness. These human-resources patterns are linked in some comments to management decisions and to staff-relations issues, creating variability in the day-to-day experience depending on staffing stability.

Dining at the community is noted for menu variety and resident satisfaction with options and choices, and some reviewers described meals as above-standard. Conversely, others perceived meal portions as limited or inconsistent, indicating a divergence in expectations about quantity or portioning. Prospective families should consider asking about meal schedules, portion policies, and how special dietary needs are handled.

Activities programming is generally viewed positively: residents appear engaged, with scheduled outings and trips that contribute to an active social environment. The community’s size and programming were described as busy and social by some, while a few observers felt the facility footprint was smaller than they preferred.

Management impressions are varied. Several reviewers praised helpful administration and visible, caring management; others raised concerns about leadership turnover and communication practices that have affected staff morale. This creates a pattern in which operational strengths (cleanliness, engaged staff, medical-assistance capability) coexist with organizational risks (administrative instability and communication gaps). These patterns may influence staffing continuity, responsiveness to family concerns, and the availability of certain unit types.

Overall, Clatsop Care appears to offer a clean, well-maintained environment with active programming and clinically capable staff. The principal areas for due diligence are staffing stability, management practices, meal portioning policies, and the current availability of larger units. Families touring the community should ask direct questions about current staffing levels and turnover, management structure and communication protocols, meal service details, and unit availability to determine whether the facility’s operational patterns align with their needs.

    About Clatsop Care Retirement Village

Clatsop Retirement Village offers a welcoming community for seniors, accommodating a diverse range of residents from fully independent individuals to those requiring moderate assistance with daily activities. Residents often discover that they are neighbors with familiar faces, rekindling old friendships in their new home. The environment nurtures both privacy and companionship, with living spaces thoughtfully designed to create neighborhoods within the village, making it easy to socialize or enjoy quiet time as desired.

Housing options at Clatsop Retirement Village are tailored to a variety of preferences and needs, with three distinct floor plans available. Residents can choose from a studio apartment measuring approximately 336 square feet, a spacious one-bedroom unit at about 504 square feet, or a comfortable two-bedroom unit offering roughly 832 square feet. Each living space comes equipped with a kitchenette, providing the convenience and independence of home-like amenities while being supported by the greater community setting.

Understanding the challenges that can come with caregiving, Clatsop Retirement Village also offers a comprehensive respite care program. This service provides families and primary caregivers with the opportunity to take a much-needed break, confident in the knowledge that their loved one is being well cared for in a supportive, all-inclusive environment. Respite care is particularly well-suited for individuals recovering after a hospital stay or rehabilitation, offering personalized assistance and the benefit of nursing and caregiver support that might not be accessible at home. This approach allows residents to recuperate at their own pace while giving families peace of mind.

The attentive staff at Clatsop Retirement Village includes team members who have been committed to the community since the building first welcomed residents in 1999. While licensing is not mandatory for all positions, many staff members pursue and maintain professional licensure, and ongoing education and training are prioritized to ensure the highest quality of care. The team benefits from the expertise of a registered nurse and chef onsite, adding an extra layer of specialized support and culinary excellence to daily living.

Residents can easily transition between different care programs as their needs evolve, thanks to the comprehensive nature of the services available within the Clatsop Care Center Health District. Prior to move-in, and on a regular basis thereafter, assessments are performed to tailor services and associated costs to each resident’s unique requirements. Occupancy is in high demand, with wait times for units typically ranging from six to twelve months, making early planning and waitlist placement important considerations for prospective residents. Overall, Clatsop Retirement Village stands out as a thoughtfully designed, caring environment where seniors can thrive, supported by a dedicated staff and a community that feels like home.
